Her Best FriendGod she hated this. He was her best friend. They where cute together, as friends. They got along, as friends. He could lean on her, but only as friends! It drove her insane! She shouldn’t feel this way about him, she shouldn’t care when he kisses girls, or dances close to them, but she did and it bugged her. She remembered back to the day when they relied on each other. Where they had to talk every single day or nothing would ever be right. It wasn’t like that anymore. He could go weeks without talking to him, but sometimes she still wanted to talk to him everyday. She wanted to talk to him for hours at a time, pouring out her darkest, deepest emotions to him. That’s what she felt right now. That need, that desire to be close to him. To be around him. It was burning inside her and she could barely take it. Her eyes where drawn, once again, from their place at the computer screen to the window to the outside world. It was raining. The sky was gray and clouds rolled in. If she could just go see him… But no! She couldn’t! That would be breaking everything she worked so hard on. Denying what she knew she couldn’t have. But still… it was only a 10 minute drive, at that. “GOD!” She screamed, slamming her fist on the table. She needed something to make up her mind, something or someone to tell her to go see him. Suddenly the power went out. Her computer died and she was left sitting in the dark. She looked out the window, a small smile spreading across her face. Okay, she got it. She would go and see him now. The drive was short, almost too short. She had never felt this nervous about going to see her best friend. They hadn’t talked in awhile, so it might seem sort of strange. Her just showing up at his house on a rainy afternoon. She let out a breath she wasn’t aware of holding, when she saw his car in the driveway. He was home, that was a good sign. But then again she was even more nervous at that moment. Slowly she stepped out of her car, relaxing in the feel of the rain. The steps towards his front porch was slow and attentive. Almost reluctant. Like, did she have to do this? But there was no other choice. She was here, she drove across town to come to his house, and she was going to tell him how she felt. Once and for all. Her thoughts drifted back to the way she felt when she felt when she saw the ‘Quit Playing Game With My Heart’ video. He looked hot there. Or the way he looked in the original ‘Drowning’ video. Damn. With the rain falling down over him… over his hot sweet body. She visibly shuddered then froze when she found herself starring at his front door. When had she gotten up there? Her hand reached out and knocked softly on the door. When no one answered right away, she turned. Convincing herself that he really wasn’t home, though his car was there, and that she needed to go home. “Oh well, it was worth a try,” she said weakly as she started down the porch and back into the rain. Her dark blue blouse was all ready soaked, along with her jeans. Her hair lay plastered to her face and she was positive she looked like a drowned rat. “Maybe it’s good he’s not home anyway.” She remarked. But a little too soon. Just then the door opened, revealing him in all his glory. He was dressed casually, obviously glad not to have to go into the public today, and his hair was spiked up, real sexy like. “Haylie? What are you doing here?” He called out to her, since she was all ready making her way back to her lawn. Haylie turned slowly to him, seeing his frame highlighted by the light from inside. It was him. Her best friend. The one she loved. So many thoughts ran through her head of how to answer to him, but five words came out, “I love you Kevin Richardson!” Kevin had been surprised to see his best friend Haylie standing in the rain. Soaked from head to foot. She looked visibly shaken, like she didn’t want to be there. When he called to her and she turned around, it was more then evident that she was… nervous? And then she called out to him, pretty much yelled, “I love you Kevin Richardson!” had he heard that right? She, Haylie, loved him? Suddenly Haylie came running to him, through his front lawn, up the porch, and stopped, right in front of him. “I love you… please love me back.” It was a demand, a quiet demand barely escaping from her lips. Kevin blinked. Once, twice, then a third time. Had he lost his mind? Had his hearing gone whack all of a sudden? Or did she admit to loving him… him. Pathetic Kevin. Oldest guy in a little boy band. A man that found 14 and 15 year olds attracted to him. She loved him? His mind reeled with reactions he could have to her confession. That is, if this wasn't another one of his unreal dreams. His mouth opened once, twice. Like a fish. This caused Haylie's eyes to tear up and she looked longingly at him. "Kevin? Now would be a time to say something." "I... uh..." He mentally kicked himself. For being someone who prided himself on speaking properly, he sure wasn't doing a good job at it. "Kev?" She whispered, fear outlining her expressions, Again he couldn't form words. Like suddenly words and him just did not belong together. What was his name again? Haylie turned and ran. It was the only thing she could think of doing. The way he was acting... he was so upset he couldn't even handle talking to her! How could she go on now? This love, this desire in her, shot down because the power went out and she felt like taking a drive in a thunderstorm! Kevin knew he had to stop her. If she left, it could ruin everything. If she never spoke to him again, he couldn't live with himself. He reached her in record time. Not even caring that the rain was soaking him through and through. He grabbed a hold of her arm and spun her around. Haylie looked shocked. Like she hadn't been expecting that one. Kevin surprised her once more by placing his lips over hers. They kissed, there in the pouring rain, and Haylie couldn't really think of anything more romantic then that. They pulled apart from each other, smiling at the sensations running through them. "I love you too, and I'm sorry I didn't answer. I just... I got nervous and I was so afraid I'd screw up and I normally never worry about that sort of thing but you're so perfect and I-" Haylie cut Kevin's rambling off by pressing her lips into his. She pulled back after a few moments and licked her lips gently. "It's all right, I was nervous too." "I love you," Kevin said, leaning his forehead against hers. "I love you too," She smiled up at him. This was her best friend. The love of her life. The man she'd been waiting for, for a long time. And he was hers now. He loved her back. What a sweet feeling it was.
