-Their Game-One step in the club and half the girls where nixed. All these tall, rail thin blondes struggled to catch his attention. Blah. Over the past four days of ‘hunting’ the perfect girl, he’d seen way too many girls who’s faces read, ‘I’m easy and good.’ Contrary to popular belief, Nick Carter was not THAT shallow. And then he spotted her, across the club. She was leaning against the wall, talking to a few friends and holding a Mountain Dew. Considering how all her friends had beers, he could check off ‘doesn’t drink.’ And she was a brunette with remarkably clear blue eyes. That stood out, even from across the room. Double check. From where he stood he guessed her to be around 5’7”, check there. She was in a club for people over 21, check again. Now he just needed to talk to her. The crowd was tough to get through but Nick found himself beside her group of friends in a matter of moments. She spoke and he strained to hear what she said, “I love the way your hair looks tonight Natalie, it’s so cute!” ‘Check for the sweet,’ Nick thought. “Thanks! Oh, how’s your sister doing?” The girl named Natalie responded. “Well, she had her baby!” The girl said excitedly, “I picked up my brother Joel from the airport last night and we spent all day together. Shopping for gifts for Shelle’s girl!” ‘Family type, totally check!’ Nick smiled, ‘How much more perfect can this girl get?’ The girl turned and accidentally ran into Nick, spilling her soda on him, “Oh seesh, I’m sorry sir!” She quickly muttered and hurried to help him clean himself up. “It’s okay,” Nick nodded. Watching as she bit her lip and blushed lightly. ‘Oh god, she’s cute,’ Nick couldn’t believe his luck. He’d found the girl who fit AJ’s list perfectly. Now the only trick was to get her to fall in love with him. “Um yeah, my niece adores you,” Again the girl blushed and shook his still waiting hand, tenderly, “I’m Memphis Madden.” Nick’s smile brightened, “What a cool name!” Memphis laughed, “You don’t know how many times people have responded with, ‘no, not where you’re from, what’s your name?’” Nick laughed, glad she had a sense of humor, “Wanna dance?” He asked, holding out his hand. Memphis looked at it, evidentially surprised that he was asking her. She didn’t think he liked brunette’s, “Um, sure.” And she placed her hand in his. It felt weird, but a good weird. Like the simple gesture of her putting her hand in his was sparking the beginning of something new. Something that Nick wasn’t sure he liked. They dance closely, Nick grinding into her. The smell of her perfume was intoxicating. He wanted to push her into the wall and take her right then and there. He knew he needed to get out of this situation before he did just that. His goal was for her to fall in love with him, not get her into bed on their first night. And not to fall for her. “Come on,” He took her hand, leading her towards the door. He managed to grab his coat before they stepped out of the club into the cold night air. It was actually very refreshing, after being crammed together in the over loaded club. Nick looked at Memphis who’s eyes where puzzled but a smile tugged at her lips, “What?” he asked, his fingers still linked with hers. She turned to him, “Um… I didn’t think I was your normal type of girl.” Nick shrugged; in all honesty she wasn’t his type of girl. He preferred blondes; tall, leggy blondes. “Everyone needs to step outside their box every now and then.” Memphis looked at him, “So… I’m your way of stepping out of the box?” “You’re defiantly worth stepping out of the box for,” He smiled at her. Memphis blushed. It was cute actually. He could get used to that blush. “Mem, do you think you might want to go to a pool party with me tomorrow?” Nick asked, shortening her name by habit. Memphis looked surprised, “Like… as a date?” “Well, I was gonna take you as my date, yeah.” Nick nodded, laughing at her shock. “Um… okay,” Memphis finally nodded
