~Chapter 20~
"Come on, Lets get you home" Kristy said wrapping her arm around Kevin's
waist and helping him out of the mall. "What time is it?" she asked Brian. He
looked at his watch and told her it was 8:30. "Ok, good. We can take Kevin
home, then at 9:30, one of us can come back and get the other three. Kevin,
you are staying at my house tonight, I don't want Jackie and Harold seeing
you like this!" there was no emotion left in her voice, just pure exhaustion.
They got to Kristy's house and got Kevin settled in the guest room. As soon
as he laid down, he was fast asleep. Kristy went into the living room where
Brian was sitting on the couch and flopped down into a chair.
"How are you doin, babe?" Brian asked her in a gentle tone.
"I don't know", she shook her head and sighed. "Everything is so screwed
up right now."
"I know. What's going on with us, you're coming back to Orlando with me
right?" he asked hopefully.
"I have got to go get Aj, Nick, and Howie" she said standing. Brian knew
she ws avoiding his question, but was careful not to pressure her. She had
been under a lot of stress lately and he knew that. He gave her a quick kiss
on the cheek and went back to his mother's house next door. Kristy picked up
the guys and answered their question's about where Kevin and Brian were
simply by saying that they were tired and didn't feel like shopping so she
brought them home. Most of them bought it, but Howie knew something was
wrong, and she knew that he didn't believe her when he put his hand on hers
in comfort. When they got back she said her goodbyes to them and went home.
Before she went to go to sleep, she went and checked on Kevin to see how he
was doing. She flipped the light switch on and when she saw he wasn't there
went searching around the house for him.
Brian was awakened by the ringing phone that night.
"Brian, is Kevin there, did he go back over there while I was gone?"
"No, why?" he asked.
"He's gone, I went to check on him and he wasn't there!"
