Nick is upstairs with Kaley when his cell phone rings.
“Hello?”
“Is Jess with you?”
“No, I’m upstairs with Kaley, why?”
“I need you to keep her away from her house until like six or six thirty!”
“What, why? I thought you wanted her at the Ritz by eight?”
“I do, and that’s why I need you to keep her away from her house until I said so! Justin is calling everyone to come and pick up their invitations and we’re working on some last minute details and I can’t have her know what is going on, let alone that I’m the surprise and I’m here!”
“I got you man, don’t worry. So how are we going to get our invitations?”
“Justin will give them to you when you drop her off. I will discuss it with Justin when I get to his house. I’m on my way to the airport as we speak.”
“Airport? I thought you were driving down?”
“Change of plans. Don’t worry, Angela is picking me up.”
“Well, what if I send Kim up to Jess’s to pick up the invitations? She won’t be doing anything today! It’s just Jess, me, Aaron and Kaley that are going on the boat.”
“Well, that would work. Call her up after you leave and tell her you forgot something at Jess’s house last night and have her go pick up the invitations.”
“Alright, let me know when you get here by texting me. Don’t say you’re here, just put like a smiley face or something!”
“That’s so gay Nick, but okay. I will text you when I get there, I have to go.”
“Okay, I’ll see you later tonight then.”
“Oh and Nick?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t open your big mouth about this, okay?”
“She’s already asked me if I knew what you were up to Aje!”
“What did you tell her?”
“That I talked to you this morning and that you were going to the studio to work on your solo album and finish writing and recording ‘Happy’ and she believed me, so don’t worry!”
“Okay good, I gotta go, bye.”
A.J. hangs up with Nick and leaves with his mom to go to the airport. Nick goes downstairs with Kaley and leaves with Kaci and Aaron to go out on his boat for the day.
“Should we have Doug fly in early?” Angela suggests to Justin.
“Would he?”
“Probably. There’s only one way to find out!”
Angela takes out her cell phone and calls Doug.
“What’s up Ang?”
“Are you busy today, like right now?”
“No, why?”
“Are you able to get on a plane and come down here and be here by seven tonight?”
“What for?”
“A party for Jess. Alex, you remember Alex don’t you? Well, Alex is throwing her this huge surprise birthday party at the Ritz tonight and we thought you should come!”
“Would I be able to meet with Chris while I’m there?”
“I would think so. Come on Doug, you got to be here!”
“Alright, I’ll come. Are you going to pick me up at the airport?”
“Yeah, just call me and let me know if it’s West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale!”
“Which is closer to where Jess and Justin are?”
“I think they’re equal. I flew into Fort Lauderdale.”
“Alright, I’ll do that one then. I’ll call you when I’m at the airport getting ready to leave.”
“You’re so awesome Doug! Just remember to pack something formal or business casual since Alex is insisting that is what must be worn tonight!”
“Alright, I will see you soon, hopefully!”
Angela and Doug hang up with each other. Angela and Justin work on the guest list and calling people while Alex is on his way to West Palm Beach.
“Krystal?”
“Yeah.”
“Hey, it’s Justin, Kaci’s brother.”
“Oh hey, what’s up?”
“We’re throwing Kaci a surprise birthday party tonight at the Ritz-Carlton in Palm Beach and we need you to come, can you?”
“Sure!”
“Alright, can you come by the house ASAP so that you can get your invitation and we can talk to you about it?”
“Absolutely! I’ll be there in like ten minutes.”
“Thanks Krystal! Oh, and remember it’s a surprise, don’t go telling anybody! Especially after you get the invitation!”
Justin hangs up with Krystal and goes to the next person on the list he sent Alex.
“Hey Luke,” Justin says.
“What’s up?”
“We’re throwing Jess a surprise birthday party tonight at the Ritz-Carlton in Palm Beach and we need you to come, can you?”
“Sure, why not.”
“Can you come by the house? I need to talk to you about it.”
“Well, I’m down in Miami right now, can I stop by on my way home?”
“Sure, just be sure you get here before five!”
“Alright, I’ll try, but what if I can’t get there before then?”
“Then I will leave the invitation with my mom. She will be here until seven, but Jess will be here. You live by the Ritz, don’t you?”
“Yeah.”
“So if you don’t make it to the house before five, just go to the Ritz dressed in either formal or business casual and call me on my cell when you get there.”
“Alright. I’ll try and be at your house before five though, I don’t think I’ll be down here in Miami much longer.”
“Okay. Are you with anyone else Jess knows?”
“Jackie, Staci and Kory are with me.”
“Alright, can you tell them about it and tell them that they have to be here by five to get their invitations too?”
“Sure. Hey J?”
“Yeah?”
“Who is we? Who’s throwing this party for Jess?”
“Alex is and asked me to help him. Just please don’t tell anyone besides Jackie, Stace and Kory!”
“I won’t. We’ll see you later then.”
“Thanks Luke!”
Justin hangs up with Lucas and crosses his name, along with Jackie, Staci and Kory off the list of people to call. Figuring he might want to call Chad so that he can get a definite yes or no, he decides to do that next.
“Chad?”
“Yeah, who’s this?”
“It’s Justin, Kaci’s brother.”
“Justin? Kaci?”
“Roman.”
“Oh hey, what’s up?”
“We’re throwing a party for Kaci’s birthday and I know it’s your birthday too, so we were wondering if you would be able to make it down here for a party tonight?”
“Wow, that’s kind of late to be asking if I can make it to Miami!”
“West Palm to be exact, but I’m sure Kaci would really like it if you were here! And Kory is going to be here too.”
“Is there any way I can get back to you? My friends were going to take me out tonight for my birthday.”
“Chad, if you can’t make it, you can’t make it, it’s no big deal. I figured I would call you now and let you know incase you were able to come if you didn’t have any other plans!”
“Oh, okay. I would love to come, but I can’t. Give my wishes to Kaci though would you?”
“Definitely! Oh and Chad, it’s a surprise party, so don’t call Kaci and say anything!”
“I won’t! I’m heading out of town in like an hour, so don’t worry!”
“Okay. Well, we wish you could have made it, but have fun for your birthday!”
Justin hangs up with Chad.
“He can’t make it?”
“No. He already had plans with his friends for his birthday.”
“Oh.”
Kaci, Nick, Kaley and Aaron are out on Nick’s boat.
“So how did you and Nick meet?” Kaley asks Kaci.
“I don’t know if you know or not but my brother is in a group called Vi3 and they toured with Nick and the rest of the guys on their Millennium tour as one of the opening acts and I always go with my brother when he tours. So that’s how I met Nick and that’s when I started dating Alex.”
“Oh that’s cool. Alex is a really sweet guy.”
“Yeah, he is,” Kaci says with a smile on her face. “So, Nick never told me, how did you and him meet?”
“I would always see him out at the different clubs out in LA and then he came to KIIS and that’s when we first started hanging out and eventually he asked me out and then asked me to be his girlfriend.”
“Oh that’s cool. I remember last night you said you were interning at KIIS. And like I said, my friend Chad, well, we all call him Valentine or Val, I can get you an internship with him if you want it. And I’m sure they’d hire you the second something cool opened up.”
“That sounds awesome.”
“Yeah, the only thing is it’s up in West Palm Beach.”
Kaley’s cell phone rings and she looks at her caller ID on her phone.
“I gotta answer this, it’s from LA.”
“That’s okay, I’ll go find Nick and Aaron,” Kaci says getting up.
Kaci goes and finds Nick and Aaron and Kaley answers A.J.’s call.
“Hey Alex.”
“I was just checking in with you since you can play this off better than Nick.”
“Oh, well, she was with me just now. I told her I had to answer it because it was from LA.”
“Well, that wasn’t a lie!”
“Yeah, except that you’re not in LA!”
“Shh!” A.J. says freaking out.
“Sorry!”
“So how long do I have to pull this off?”
“I don’t know! Kim texted me a while ago saying she was leaving. I don’t know how much longer we can do this because she’s getting suspicious!”
“Just try your best Kaley! You know what is going on, just play dumb if you have to!”
“Alright Alex but let me go so you can get to work. I’ll let Nick know you’re here.”
“Do me a favor and text him a smiley face. That’ll tell him I’m here.”
“Alright, I’ll see you later.”
