![]() “You were fucking incredible!” Marshall exclaimed after she and Ernelle had won the debate and the “A” for their final grade. “I think we gave them a run for it don’t you?” Regina asked looking over at Ernelle. “Oh god that was funny when you starting spewing out Britney Spears lyrics and throwing them back into their faces!” Ernelle said laughing. “Where the hell were you when I was in court?” Marshall asked with a laugh. “You keep rapping the way you do, I guarantee you’ll be back in there soon enough, and don’t worry, I’ll make them eat your album,” Regina replied laughing. “I really don’t believe you, I swear you must have literally studied for this you’re entire life, and not just rap either,” Marshall remarked. “Yeah, I have really. When all the stuff got started with you going to court, I figured that I should do some research and find out the real story behind it. That’s where the idea for the Rap and Hip-Hop Association came from,” Regina replied. “I’d heard something about that a while ago, but never got a chance to find out what you guys were all about.” Marshall replied. “Well really it’s just a group of people that are into rap and want to stop censorship. We do a lot of research and write a lot of articles, but we don’t do protests, we’re keeping our noses clean. We want to emphasize common sense, knowledge and fairness so that we cannot be accused of what the opponents are doing.” “Damn, are you going to go into politics or what?” Ernelle asked. “It was always an option from the sound of it,” Marshall laughed. “No, really, I just feel strongly about rap music and the freedom to say what you want, it whatever shape of form that you want. I mean, people have a problem with your lyrics because they are not for children. But do you notice the only parents that are making noise are the ones that are not doing their job in the first place by not monitoring their children. And that’s what they are, children, under eighteen, that’s why the parental advisory label in stamped right on the front, so the parents, key word here, will know what they are giving their kid.” “Reggie, you need to be a lawyer,” Marshall said looking over at her and grinning. “That’s all right, I’m just going to take it to the next level. They won’t be able to ignore me now,” Regina said smiling. Ernelle left Regina and Marshall to walk back to their apartment while she went to her next class. They walked side by side, enjoying each other’s company and talking. “Regina, I’m amazed. You blew them away. Too bad they didn’t record it, I swear you really could have made my case,” he said. “Actually they did record it, the professor tapes everyone so that she can go back in conferences and show you what you did right and what you did wrong,” “Now that gives me an idea,” Marshall said with an evil grin. “Don’t even think about it boy,” she said grabbing his hat and yanking it down. “Hey!” he said pulling it up and laughing at her. “I’m gonna get you for that!” he said diving at her and throwing his arms around her waist. It took her by surprise but she laughed all the same. She looked up at him and liked the look that was returned. “Thanks for coming today,” she said. “No, thanks for inviting me, I can’t believe how interesting it was, and you were dynamic. I can’t wait to see you on stage rapping,” he replied squeezing her. “That’s going to be surreal, but hey, lets think about that tomorrow.” She said putting her arms around him. “What are you suggesting then?” he asked. “Oh I don’t know, maybe going to lunch, or to a movie, maybe just making out, I don’t know? What do you want to do?” she asked raising an eyebrow. “I like the last one personally,” he said as he dipped his head into kiss her. “I didn’t mean here!” she said pushing him a bit, “It’s right on the street.” She laughed. “Then it’s either the movies or your place,” he said, refusing to let her go. “I’d say the movies cause it keep you from getting too carried away, but we wouldn’t be able to talk,” she said. He stiffened at that. “What the hell we got to talk about?” “This whole thing, we’ve both got to admit neither one of us wants to commit to anything.” “So that’s what this about, already,” he said abruptly letting her go. “Yes, already! Why are you acting like this? We met, what four days ago. How long is it going to be before you realize I’m not gonna bow down to you and do whatever the fuck you want!” “Fuck you!” he shouted. “I don’t need this shit, goodbye Eminem!” she shouted before turning around and starting to walk away. “You are a whore, just like the rest of them, fuck whoever it is so that you can get what you want!” he yelled after her. She stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face him. “Look who’s talking. You know, you are such a fucking phony, You bitch and you moan about how hard it is being rich, being famous, how you can’t stand all your fucking fans coming up to you in public. But that doesn’t stop you from making another record to sell to those same fans. Then you bitch about how you don’t trust anyone, and you won’t trust anyone, period. And now, now you want me, to give you the time of day, after you fucking accuse me of sleeping with you just to get a record deal.” She said all of this slowly and carefully, making sure he heard each word. “Just think about who got themselves into this mess. I didn’t ask you to follow me home. I didn’t ask you to stay. I was the one who told you to leave and that was before I had anything at all. Nothing but a fucking lousy waitress job and three classes away from getting an English degree that will get me nowhere. And you know what, I’d rather live in that shitbox apartment the rest of my life, then forever be accused of sleeping with you to get where I wanted to be.” “Yeah right, like I’d fucking believe that you’d give that up!” “That contract doesn’t go into affect until tomorrow when I go to record. But don’t worry, I won’t be recording a damn thing, I’ll be there, on time, to tear up the contract and walk out of there, never to darken your doorstep again. I’m not a whore, I don’t lie. When I said it was sex, it was, just sex.”
