~* Chapter 52*~
Nick was sitting at the picnic table talking to the guys when his cell
phone rang.Thinking it might be Blane,when he answered,instead of saying
hello,he said,"I'll be home soon snookums."
There was silence,and finally a male voice replied," Is this Nick Carter?"
Nick didn't recognize the voice."Um,yeah.Who's this?," he asked.
"My name is Greg Davis.I'm a doctor at General Memorial Hospital.Your
wife has been involved in a serious car accident,and I suggest you come down
here right away.Things don't look good."
Nick felt his heart begin to pound in his chest.""Oh my God...," he
choked out,as tears sprung to his eyes."I'll be right there." He hung up and
turned to the guys and girls."Blane's been in a car accident.We need to get
to the hospital."
They all jumped into their cars and raced for the hospital...
20 minutes later...Nick raced up to the desk in the emergency room."Can you
tell me where Blane Carter is?," he asked,trying to remain as calm as
possible even though his heart was racing in his chest.
The nurse looked up at him."I'm sorry,sir,but I don't know anything," she
said.
Nick pounded his fist on the desk."Don't tell me you don't know
anything,damnit!," he shouted at her.
Brian came up behind him and smiled at the nurse.
"Blane Carter is his wife.She was involved in a bad car accident," he
said.
The nurse consulted her chart."Oh,the head~on collision.The doctor's are
working on her now," she stated.
Brian led Nick over to a chair,and they sat down with everyone else.Nick
ran his fingers through his hair,as tears streamed down his face.
"Why can't anyone tell me anything?," he choked out,and Brian patted his
back.
After about an hour,a doctor approached them."Nick Carter?," he asked,and
Nick stood up and walked over to him as everyone else followed.
The doctor gave him a solemn look."I'm afraid the news I have for you
isn't very good.Your wife is in a very deep coma~she sustained serious
internal injuries in the accident.I'm afriad there's nothing else we can
do.She has a 10% chance of surviving," he explained to Nick.
Nick felt the room beging to spin~he suddenly felt like he'd been punched
in the stomach,and he began to sob loudly as the guys tried to comfort
him.But he pulled away from them and glared at the doctor.
"You mean there's nothing you can do to help her?," he asked,unable to
believe what he was hearing.
The doctor shook his head."I'm sorry.I'll give you some time with her,"
he remarked.
He led Nick down the hall to a small room.When Nick saw Blane lying in
the bed,surrounded by monitors and tubes going in and out of her from every
direction,he began to cry again.
The doctor left,and Nick went over to her and tok her hand as he sat down
in a chair next to the bed.Tears streamed down his face.He didn't even
recognize her.Her face was all bruised,and there was gauze wrapped around her
head.A machine breathed for her,and it was painful for him to see.
He took a deep breath."Blane,baby girl,I love you so much.Please don't
leave me.I couldn't go on without you," he whispered,and he placed his head
on her stomach as he continued to sob,his entire body shaking.
A few minutes later,a loud,erratic sound filled the room,and nurses and
doctors rushed in and shoved him out of the room.
Everyone was sitting in the hallway waiting for him,and Brian and Kevin
jumped up and Nick fell into their arms,sobbing.
About five minutes later,the doctor came out of the room.He walked over
to Nick.
"I'm sorry.We did everything we could," he said,and walked away.
Nick lost all control then~he started sobbing hysterically.The guys tried
to comfort him,but he was totally hysterical.He slammed his hand into the
wall."NO!BLANE!DON"T LEAVE ME!I LOVE YOU!OH GOD!," he screamed,and crumpled
to the floor in a heap.
The guys all ran over to him and pulled him to his feet,and held him as
he continued to cry uncontrollably.
The girls stood in a cluster of their own,crying over the loss of their
friend,a friend who had been like a sister to them...........
