+Forbidden Affair-Chapters:14-17+“I got it!” Cheyenne yelled dancing around the safe. “Woohoo! Oh Yeah! I got it! Go me it’s my birthday!” She continued dancing and heard clapping come from the door. She jumped and looked, as Nickolas walked over to her. “I take it ya got the safe open,” Nickolas said. “Yeah, like, after a month trying.” He gave a little smile. “So whatcha doing?” She went to put her arms around him, but he stopped her and walked over to his desk. “Right, so, um…” They looked at each other and she sighed. “Now I can give my list to the insurance place and get my money; although I don’t really need it. Then once the investigation is over I can rebuild and be out of your hair.” She opened the safe and he looked at her. “I could always rent a place until then. I mean, Keera’s right, I do have the money.” “You can stay here. No one’s in a hurry to get you out.” “Well I think I wore out my welcome.” “No you didn’t.” She didn’t say anything and got the stuff out of the safe. “We do need to talk though.” “About what?” He sighed and she looked at him. “Us.” She sighed herself and got up. “So what’s up?” He just looked at her a moment and from the look on his face she knew what was coming. “So this is it then? It’s over?” “You’re a great girl, Chey, but I just…” “You had your fun and that’s it. You just wanted me for your own stupid personal pleasure. God I was an idiot.” “That’s not how it was.” “Don’t give me that shit. I know exactly what it was and what it wasn’t.” “This past month has been great and you have been great. I just think I should concentrate on my marriage.” “You want to concentrate on a marriage you don’t want any part of? God, Nick, this is…this is crazy. You’re talking crazy.” He just looked at her. “Why? Why this sudden change of heart? I thought things were great between us.” “It was great and I said that, but I am married and we shouldn’t be doing this.” “We shouldn’t be doing this? Wasn’t it you that’s been telling me to forget that you’re married? And now all of a sudden you don’t want to forget. Did I miss something?” “You didn’t miss anything.” “Then what’s the problem?” He sighed and opened the double French doors. “Maybe there isn’t a problem after all.” “There isn’t a problem.” “Ya just wanted some fun sex and got it from me since ya can’t get it from your pregnant wife. Tell me, Nick, was the whole ‘I can’t stand my marriage’ thing just a charade in trying to get me into bed? If so it worked for ya.” “It wasn’t a charade.” “Save it. I don’t want an explanation right now.” He didn’t say anything and just looked outside. “I doubt this will matter to you, but ever since I met you you’ve been making feel things I never thought existed…never thought possible. God, Nick, you have been great in helping me deal with Devon dying and losing everything. I didn’t think it was possible to…to be able to deal with it so soon. You made it possible though and I thank you.” “We can still be friends.” “Right.” She sighed. “I never thought that my infamous line would be used on me.” She gave a slight chuckle and wiped the single tear from her eye, as Nickolas looked at her. “I guess it could be worse. I mean, you couldn’t want anything to do with me and tell me to get the hell out.” “I wouldn’t do that to you. You can stay as long as you like. No one’s in a hurry to get you out of here.” They just looked at each other a couple minutes and neither said a word. “This is crazy, Nick.” “Why is it?” “Because it is. This past month you couldn’t stop talking about how much you hate your marriage and couldn’t wait for it to be over. Now all of a sudden you want to concentrate on it. I don’t understand.” “I just had a change of mind. Keera and I should try to make it work for the sake of our child and you and I should just remain friends.” “You can still be a father without being married to the mother and forcing yourself to be happy with her.” “You don’t understand.” “Then help me understand.” He looked at her and sighed. “Please?” “I have to get ready for dinner.” She watched him walk to the door. “Keera and I are having dinner with our parents. I’ll see ya later.” “I won’t be here when you get back.” Nickolas just stood there a second and Cheyenne watched him walk out. Cheyenne stood at the bar and watched the few couples dance to the music streaming from the jukebox. She was such an idiot for thinking that Nickolas could actually be interested in her. He just wanted sex and he got it. God, she hated herself now. She left herself get intimate with a guy she knew nothing about when it could’ve been Brent or even Codie. She had to admit that it was great though. She could deny everything else, but the sex she couldn’t. She sighed and smiled to herself. “Yo, Cheyenne, may I get another?” Cheyenne looked. “Please?” “Yeah, sorry.” She got a bottle of whiskey off the shelf and filled the guy’s glass. “You have a lot on your mind?” “More or less.” “Just drink your pain away like I do.” “That only lasts for a few hours, Kevin.” “Yeah, but it’s a great few hours.” He smiled. “Have a drink on me.” She nodded and poured herself a shot. They held up their glasses and smiled. “To life.” “To life.” They knocked back their drinks, as people walked into Tyke’s. Cheyenne looked, as the group sat down. “Ain’t that Vincent Delgado?” Kevin looked. “The one and only.” “He never came in here before.” “Then you better be on your best behavior.” “Yeah.” She sighed. “Kevin, the boss wants to speak to you,” a tall man said and they looked. “I’ll be right there,” Kevin said. “I’ll talk to ya later, Chey.” She nodded. “Mr. Delgado would like some drinks,” the guy said. “And I work the bar,” Cheyenne stated. “He would like bourbon.” “And I would like my family back.” The guy grabbed her neck and pulled her towards him. “Do you have any idea who Vincent Delgado is?” “Does it look like I care? I’d appreciate it if you remove your hand from my neck.” “And such a pretty neck it is.” He smiled. “A round of bourbon for my boss.” “And find yourself a waitress.” “I want you and whatever I want I get.” “Well this time you don’t.” He squeezed her neck harder and she threw beer in his face. “Ahh! You little bitch.” He left her go and wiped the beer from his eyes. “What’s going on?” Brian questioned. “This goon is assaulting your employee,” Cheyenne replied putting her hand on her neck. “I’m going to have to ask you to leave,” Brian said. “Do you have any idea who I work for?” the guy asked. “Yeah I do,” Brian said. “But I don’t care. Please leave.” “What seems to be the problem, Mr. Littrell?” Vincent Delgado asked. “Your goon just man-handled me,” Cheyenne snapped. “And I don’t appreciate being treated like a piece of meat.” “The kids got spunk,” Vincent said. “Benny, apologize.” “I’m not a kid,” Cheyenne rebutted and Vincent smiled. “Chey, go clean the tables,” Brian said. “Gladly,” Cheyenne said walking away. “Asshole.” “In a bad mood?” Codie asked and Cheyenne looked. “What’s going on? And what happened to your neck?” “Vinnie Delgado is what’s going on and that goon beside him is what happened to my neck. He walks in here like he owns the place.” “Just ignore him.” “The nerve he has coming in here after what he did to my family.” “It was a plane crash, Chey; engine failure not foul play.” “And my parents were involved with him.” “You need to calm down.” “I am calm, Codie.” She sighed. “I don’t want to have anything to do with that man.” “I believe you won’t.” He hugged her. “Here comes Nickolas.” Cheyenne looked and shook her head. “Not getting along?” “Cheyenne, we need to talk,” Nickolas said standing in front of her. “Well I don’t want to,” Cheyenne stated. “I have enough to deal with right now and I have to work.” “But this is really important.” “But the way I feel about you ain’t?” She looked at him. “God, Nick, you played me for a fool.” He sighed. “Can we not worry about that right now?” “Typical guy.” “I finally met Keera’s father tonight.” “That’s real important,” Codie said sarcastically and rolling his eyes. “Who cares about how Chey feels.” “I don’t want to hear about tea time with the Delgado’s,” Cheyenne said walking away. “Just save it.” “Chey…” Nickolas said and she stopped walking. Nickolas walked over to her and she slowly looked at him. “Delgado, right?” Nickolas nodded. “Vincent Delgado is Keera’s father.” “You married into the mob?” Cheyenne practically whispered, as tears filled her eyes. “I didn’t know,” Nickolas said. “You married into the mob.” “I’m sorry.” “Why the Delgado’s? Why not the Capatosa’s? Or even the Roscoe’s? Why the Delgado’s? Out of the three families you pick Vinnie Delgado’s daughter to impregnate.” “I had no clue who she was.” “That usually happens when you think with your penis and not your brain.” He just looked at her. “Now that there is another reason why we can’t be together. I am not making the same mistake my parents did by getting mixed up with the mob. From this day on our association is over. You will not talk to me; you will not look at me. You will not even approach me. I will have my belongings out of your house by sunrise.” “She blames Vinnie Delgado for her family’s death,” Codie stated. “I know he did it,” Cheyenne said. “Well I ain’t going to deny you that right to think I’m guilty,” Vincent said. “But just know that Antonio had me promise to look after you if anything happened to him. Your father was a dear friend to me and I would never have hurt him.” Cheyenne just looked him then walked away. “She’s just as stubborn as her old man was.” “But she won’t make his mistakes by getting involved with you,” Codie said. “And I respect her choice,” Vincent said. “Yeah,” Codie said walking away. “Whatever.” “And why aren’t you at home with your wife?” Vincent asked and Nickolas looked at him. “She’s having your child so I assume you would be together.” “She was tired so I took her home to rest,” Nickolas replied. “I have some business to take care of with a friend and this is the only time we can get together, because his working schedule is crazy.” “Why don’t you meet at home? That way you’re closer to Keera.” “I’ll keep that in mind.” “Good. You’re a good guy, Nickolas, and I wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.” “Right.” “If you’ll excuse me, I have business.” Vincent walked away and Nickolas walked over to the bar. “Hey, Chey,” Nickolas said. “How about a shot of Tequila?” She looked at him. “Please?” She got a shot glass and a bottle of Tequila. She looked at Nickolas and filled the glass. She picked it up and Nickolas watched her drink it. He shook his head and smiled. “Then do you have a pen and paper?” Cheyenne just looked at him and waited on another patron. “Here,” Codie said leaning over the bar and getting a pen and piece of paper. He handed it to Nickolas and looked at Cheyenne. “You really pissed her off.” “Yeah,” Nickolas said writing on the paper, as Cheyenne walked over. She put a glass in front of Nickolas and filled it. She went to walk away and he grabbed her hand. She just looked at him, as he put the paper in her hand. He smiled and she walked away. “Is she always like this?” “Most of the time,” Codie said and Nickolas nodded. “In the back five minutes,” Cheyenne said walking by and they looked. “Most likely you,” Codie said and Nickolas nodded again. They heard a woman squeal and looked. “Why don’t you get her out of here,” Cheyenne suggested to a patron. “She’s smashed and it’s a weeknight.” “You…” the guy began, “you are beautiful.” “And you’re smashed also,” Cheyenne said. “Hey, Chris, can you call a cab?” “Sure thing,” Chris said. “Can I get another?” the girl asked. “Sorry we’re all out,” Cheyenne lied cleaning off their table. “And you two are going home.” She walked away. “Chey, can you come here for a second?” Brian asked and Cheyenne slowly walked over to her boss and Vincent. “May I get you something?” Cheyenne asked. “Mr. Delgado’s our savior,” Brian stated. “He just saved this place from closing.” “Doesn’t make him a savior,” Cheyenne said. “So he did a good thing, but let’s not forget the bad.” “Mr. Delgado is my new business partner,” Brian pointed out. “I’ll be taking care of all the financial stuff,” Vincent said. “Great,” Cheyenne said rolling her eyes. “There goes a decrease in pay.” “Actually an increase,” Brian said. “We agreed on a $10 raise for all the employees effective immediately.” “I’ll believe that when I see it on my paycheck,” Cheyenne said. “If there’s nothing further then I’m going on break.” “Don’t take too long,” Benny said grabbing her ass. Cheyenne picked up a steak knife and put it in the table right between Benny’s fingers and dropped the tray. “You keep your hands off me,” Cheyenne warned. “Or the next time I’ll remove your fingers one by one. Understood?” He just looked at her and grinned. “I don’t care who your boss is, because I’ll get rid of you if I have to. You’re messing with the wrong little chalupa…Benny. I ain’t afraid of you or anyone of your associates. Just remember I won’t miss next time.” She walked away and they looked at her. “I’ll get someone to clean that up,” Brian said. “It’s ok,” Vincent said. “Benny can do it.” He looked at Benny and Benny nodded. “I’m glad you have Miss Corinthos on your staff.” “So am I.” “She’s a spitfire like her father.” “I hope I made the right business decision, Mr. Delgado.” “Not only was it the right one, Mr. Littrell, but a wise one as well.” Vincent smiled and the two guys shook hands. Cheyenne stood outside the break room and waited for Nickolas. She had no idea what she was doing. She was never so into someone, outside Brent, like she was into Nickolas. She didn’t want to be interested in him now. He was married and on top if that his father-in-law was a mobster. Not just any mobster though; Vincent Delgado, the man she doesn’t want to have anything to do with. What did she get herself into? She sat on the floor just as Nickolas joined her. They looked at each other and she sighed. “So talk,” Cheyenne said and Nickolas sat beside her. “I’m sorry about this afternoon,” Nickolas said. “I don’t know what was going through my mind at the time and I didn’t mean it.” “But you still said it.” “I know and I’m sorry. I’m hoping we can still continue with what we had going on.” “How can you suggest that knowing who your father-in-law is?” “I ain’t afraid of him, Cheyenne.” “Neither am I, but I know what Vinnie Delgado can do if you cross him.” Nickolas didn’t say anything. “You hurt me this afternoon, Nick, and I can’t just forget that.” “I know and I ain’t asking you to forget it.” He sighed. “The truth is that I’m starting to feel things for you that I ain’t use to and it just scared me.” She looked at him. “A part of me doesn’t want to feel the way I do, but then at dinner, watching my parents and Mr. and Mrs. Delgado, I realized how much I love the feeling…especially feeling it with you.” The tears went down her cheeks and he smirked. “You make me feel things I was afraid to feel and I don’t want to feel them with anyone else. I enjoy the feeling I get inside when you’re around. I just…I don’t want this feeling to go away.” She grinned and hugged him. “I care about you so much, Nick, and I don’t want anything to happen to you by us staying involved.” “Nothing’s going to happen.” “You don’t know that.” “Let’s just pretend I do.” “It won’t work, Nick. Vinnie’s too powerful for us.” “Vinnie’s not going to do anything, because he’s not going to know.” “I’m sorry, Nick, but we can’t do this anymore.” “Chey, please don’t do this.” They looked at each other and he took her face in his hands. “You don’t have to do this.” “It’s for the best and you know it. We have to keep our relationship platonic from now on. If I didn’t care about you the way I do I wouldn’t be doing this. If you feel the same way then you’d agree it’s for the best.” “I ain’t agreeing to anything.” He got up. “Nick, please.” She got up herself. “I’m sorry, Chey, but I ain’t agreeing to miss out on what will most likely be the best part of my life. You are the best part of my life.” “Oh, Nick.” She threw her arms around him in a hug and cried into his neck. “Please don’t make me walk away from you and force me to forget what we shared and how I feel.” “Ok.” She looked at him and kissed him. “I won’t force you to forget me or what we shared, but I will make you walk away.” “You can’t make me do anything.” “Nick, you have to.” “No I don’t. I want to continue with what we started.” She shook her head. “We can’t do this and you know that.” “But I want to be with you.” “You’re married and Vincent Delgado is your father-in-law.” “It means nothing.” “How can you say that? You’re married to Delgado’s daughter and got her pregnant. Everyone knows family means everything to him and he’s not just going to let you cheat on his daughter.” “Vinnie Delgado can’t control my life.” “Vinnie Delgado can do what he wants, because the law can’t touch him.” Nickolas grabbed her and kissed her. She kissed him in return a second, but then pushed him away. “We can only be friends, Nickolas, and nothing more.” She wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry.” He sighed. “C’mere.” He took her in a hug. “This is crazy.” “I know.” They looked at each other and Cheyenne left him go and backed up. Nickolas just looked at her and then turned around. “Mr. Delgado.” Vincent just looked at them. “It’s not what you think.” “And what do I think?” Vincent asked. “That him and I…we’re…” Cheyenne began, “we’re not doing anything wrong.” “Chey was just upset,” Nickolas said. “And I was trying to make her feel better.” “She has a right to be upset by my presence,” Vincent stated. “Considering her family history with me.” Nickolas looked at Cheyenne. “I told you I ain’t making the mistake my father did,” Cheyenne said. “If you didn’t kill my family then you’re the reason they were killed. I ain’t getting involved with you and I want you to stay away from me. All you’ll be doing is signing my paycheck now and that’s all the association I want with you.” She went to walk by him and he stopped her. “Nickolas, can you excuse us please?” Vincent requested. “I’d like to have a word with Miss Corinthos.” “Um…” Nickolas said looking at Cheyenne then at Vincent. “Alright.” Cheyenne looked at Nickolas and he walked away. “What do you want?” Cheyenne demanded looking at Vincent. “Let’s step into the office,” Vincent said and Benny opened the door. “After you, Miss Cointhos.” Cheyenne just glared at him and went into the office. Vincent and Benny followed her and Benny closed the door. “Make this quick, I have work to do.” “Tell me the story between you and Nickolas.” “I don’t think that’s any of your business.” “I think it is my business when it involves my son-in-law.” “It doesn’t mean you own him.” “Cheyenne, I have a lot of respect for you since your father was my best friend. All I ask is for the truth. Don’t make me do something I’ll regret. What is your relationship with my son-in-law?” She just looked at him and said nothing for a moment. “We’re just friends.” Vincent just looked at her. “I was engaged to his best friend, Brent, and then he gave me a place to stay after my house burned down.” “How did that happen exactly?” “It was electrical.” “Electrical?” She nodded and folded her arms over her chest, as Vincent looked at Benny. Benny handed him an envelope and Cheyenne watched him open it. “Well I did my own investigation and found something totally different.” “And what’s that? Did I leave my curling iron on? Prehaps I forgotten to outten a cigarette. Was the oven on? You tell me since you’re so smart.” “It was arson.” Cheyenne looked at him closely. “Excuse me? Arson?” He nodded and handed her a paper. She looked at it and shook her head. “Why would anyone want to torch my house?” “I don’t know, but I’m willing to make a deal with you in finding out the truth.” “No! I ain’t getting mixed up with you.” “It’s a simple offer, Cheyenne. I’m only going to ask one thing of you and in return you’ll find out who torched your house.” She looked at him and sighed. “It’s your decision, Cheyenne. If you want to know who torched your house then you just have to do one thing in return for me. I won’t ask anything more of you.” “And what to I have to do? Sleep with your goon here?” Vincent chuckled. “You think that’s funny?” “I wouldn’t put you through that torture.” Benny looked at him. “What I want you to do is simple. I guess it’ll depend on much it means to you.” “Don’t beat around the bush, Delgado.” “Call me Vinnie please.” “Whatever; just get on with it.” He handed her the envelope. “What’s this?” “Open it.” She looked at him. “Go ahead.” She did as told and took out the contents. He looked at her, as she looked at the pictures. He waited a moment and she looked at him. “You’re spying on me?” “I promised your father I’d look out for you and that’s what I’m doing.” “You’re spying on me! You’re invading my privacy. These are intimate moments between me and Nick.” “Intimate moments between you and my son-in-law.” “What do you want from me?” “I want you to stay away from Nickolas.” She glared at him. “At first I was going to leave it go, because I know he only married Keera for the baby, then when I saw them together tonight I saw how much she loves him. I can’t sit around and watch my daughter get her heartbroken.” “But Nick doesn’t love her.” “I know that.” “Then why make him stay with her?” “Because she loves him. I also know that you love him as well.” Cheyenne didn’t say anything. “And Nickolas loves you. That’s what makes this hard, because I see these two people in love with each other and then there’s my daughter. She’s in love with this guy and keeping you away from him is the only thing I can do. My daughter’s happiness means the world to me and I’ll do anything to keep her happy.” “And keep her in a loveless marriage? That’s your idea of happiness?” “Keera loves Nickolas and that’s all that matters.” Cheyenne shook her head and sighed. “You and Nickolas are getting off easy, Cheyenne. Normally I would have you terminated, but I like you both. I want you both happy, but unfortunately it’s not going to be together.” “And by staying away from Nick you’ll find out who torched my house?” “That’s all I’m asking of you. And if you do that then you’ll both be safe.” She stayed silent a moment and thought about his request. She looked at him and sighed. “Fine, consider it done.” Vincent looked at her and she stormed out.
