MEMORIES of YOUTH

Unhallowed soldier
lying close to me
exhausted from lust
and Easterfest beirs

Soon you will be
awakened and discreetly
pushed away
into the cool March air
to rejoin your comrads
in this foreign land.

And, long after you
may have forgotton
our festive steins,
I shall be reminded
by new life
and the unfolding
of my heart.

Come,
take my hand,

I can give you
warmth and love
if you want:

but if you don't
that's alright

the flowers of
summer
have also died
from a cold frost.

*1974 RAE*

Fireflies
pounding against the window
beckoning my ears
to absorb the night-songs.

I am engulfed.

Suddenly,
the crickets are no longer
sending messages
and the peep toads have
gone into hiding~

My heart stops
momentarily with
this silence:

then natures' music filtrates
back into the air
as the morning sun entwines
with the light
of the fireflies.
