Water Valley Housing Authority is a public housing agency providing attractive, affordable rental housing for low income families in Yalobusha County, Mississippi and the surrounding area. For 46 years low income families have lived in decent, sanitary, and safe housing while working and raising families in a stable community.
In 1957 city leaders recognized the need for removing substandard housing and replacing it with decent and affordable housing for low income citizens. The vision of these men led to a grant to explore the possibilities and later the construction of 44 apartments in two Water Valley neighborhoods.
Today there are 199 apartments in three neighborhoods which serve low income families.
Through the years these apartments have been remodeled and now all have central heat and air.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rent an apartment?
Applications are taken at our central office at 300 Blackmur Drive HH1 during normal business hours Monday-Friday. After your background checks and other verifications are complete, you will be notified whether or not you are eligible for our program. If you are eligible you will be placed on a waiting list for the apartment size you need.
How long will I have to wait?
The minimum wait time is about three months but could be longer. At times we are waiting for someone to move out before we can offer another apartment.
How is the rent based?
Rent is based on 30 percent of your income after certain deductions.
Can I lease an apartment if I have very little income?
Yes, if we determine that you can maintain the apartment. However, if you would pay no rent, we can skip you under certain conditions.
Can you tell me where I am on the waiting list?
No, because there are reasons your waiting list position can change. We can tell you how long those that are being admitted had to wait. This will give you an idea of how long your wait may be.
