Summer League consists of TWO HALVES. The first half runs from Thursday the 24th October to 05 December 2002 and
the second half starts on Thursday 23 January 2003 and ends on 06 March 2003.
There is an A & B SECTION with each section consisting of 8 teams with 7 players per team.
Matches will consist of a 5-MIN WARM UP AND 25-MIN CONTINUOUS PLAY; this is controlled by means of a hooter.
The first match will COMMENCE AT 18h00 SHARP with the last match starting at 21h00.
ORDER OF PLAY: 1st evening is 1, 2, 3…7. Week 2 will be 2, 3, 4…7, 1and so forth. The 2nd half shall begin with 1.
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES shall a match be played outside the designated time. You may only change times within the evening’s schedule by swapping with other players. Should players be caught playing outside the 18h00 to 21h00 timeslot their match will be considered null and void and each team will receive 0 points.
The ABOVE POINT is critical as we a trying to create an enjoyable atmosphere.
The COST of the summer league will be R130 (couples are discounted to R115 each)and includes a T-shirt, lights, fires, entertainment & the final dance.
2. SCORING
Scoring shall be the HANDOUT method.
There are no 9-point games involved and scoring will be of a CONTINUOUS NATURE.
RALLIES IN PROGRESS will not count should the hooter sound before the end of that rally.
3. POINTS SYSTEM
IF a FLOATER is used and wins the FLOATER receives 1 point and the OPPONENT 2 points.
If a FLOATER is used and loses the FLOATER receives 0 points and the OPPONENT 3 points.
The WINNER of a match with no FLOATERS shall receive three (3) points.
The WINNER of a match with two FLOATERS shall receive one (1) point.
A TIED match with two FLOATERS or with two permanent players will each
earn one (1) point.
After the seven completed matches the winning side shall receive 2 BONUS POINTS.
If the points are tied a points COUNTOUT takes place and should that be tied as well then the bonus points will be shared.
If a player FAILS TO PITCH for a game he/she will forfeit that game 25 – 0.(3) points to the opponent
4. HALF WINNERS
A winner is determined each half with the team having the most number of POINTS being declared the winner.
Should points be tied then a points COUNTOUT will take place for the entire half
Should this also be equal then the team that WON THE SPECIFIC MATCH between the two teams shall be the winner.
If the teams still tied at the encounter then a PLAYOFF shall take place.
Winners of each half shall meet in a GRAND FINAL to determine the overall winner.
5. FLOATERS
If a player is not available for a specific week it is their OWN
RESPONSIBILITY to find a player and inform captains.
A floater LIST is available and must be utilised in order to ensure non-pitching of players.
Should no floaters be available then a player from ANY CLUB can be approached to play.
If a floater becomes permanent he/she will pay a pro-rata entrance fee.
6. MARKING & SQUASH BALLS
It is the HOME team’s responsibility to mark the evenings play.
EACH PLAYER must mark a match and captains are to ensure which player marks where.
Should a team be CAUGHT NOT MARKING they may be docked points earned for their matches.
Please MAKE AN EFFORT to do your turn as it only makes the evening a better one for all.
Marking SCHEDULES are on the fixture lists.
The home team player that plays first must supply a DOUBLE DOT ball for all the matches.
7. FINES & LUCKY DRAWS
A FINES MEETING will take place each evening at 22h00.
Fines may be NOMINATED to a committee member but may not necessarily be given.
A Lucky Draw with a difference will be run during the course of summer league.
Tickets ranging from 1c to R10 will be sold throughout the duration of summer league. Tickets
bought on that particular night will automatically be entered into the weekly shooters and
mystery prize draw. At the end of summer league there will be a cheese and wine and lucky draw
to determine the winner. First prize will be R500 cash and there will be 5 runner up prizes
to the value of R100 each.
8. TEAM CHANGES
Challenges may be made within your team and one place up. You may ONLY challenge
before the 1st week of each half. If you loose you may not re-challenge. Team changes to be
given to Karen.
You may not change teams.
9. GENERAL
Each team has been sponsored with a PLAYING SHIRT. These shirts must be worn for each and every match.
FIRES will be available each evening as well as braai packs for sale at the bar.
A CASH BAR is available and please do not bring in your own alcohol, as this will cause an embarrassment to yourself.
MUSIC will be supplied each evening with a disco on the first & last evening of each half.
