                   Lookups

When requesting a lookup, there are a few rules that you need to follow.

     1)    always place the name of the book or CD in either the subject line OR the first line of the message....that way, the volunteer knows what to do your lookup from.

  2)     NEVER request a 'blanket' lookup, or " tell me all the Smiths in so and so book"...this is NOT allowed in the fair usage section of the copyright laws...   limit it to 2 or 3 names.

 3)    ALWAYS   include given and surname along with some sort of a date, even if only an approximate one .                                                                                                                                                                  4)     Always acknowledge receiving the information, even  if it is not what you want to hear...remember, these folks are doing YOU a favor by doing research for you in their resources, and the only way that they have to know if it has reached you is for YOU to let them know it arrived.......when you receive it, simply hit REPLY and type in, for example, "thanks so much for your help; I certainly appreciate it", sign it and hit sent....this takes 4 seconds and is the very least you can do for a complete stranger who has helped you.

5) remember, these are done by folks that are as busy as your are, so they may take a while...be patient!

[This is not a book that's going to give anyone 1 beget 2 beget 3, etc.  It is a fabulous read about the migration to and settlement in America [and particularly PA] by the Quakers, Lutherans, Dunkards, 7th Day Baptists, Bretheren in Christ, Huguenots, Amish, Moravians, Schwenkfelders & Hutterite Brethern.]  I'd just love to recommend it to anyone with PA early roots - a terrific read!
