The ballots were cast and the results are in. There will be no new Blue Blazer Hall of Fame members in 2006. Six voters out of ten ballots responded, meaning that in order for a former player or coach to be elected they would need five of six votes.
Shawn Williams fell one vote short in his bid to enter the Hall of Fame tallying four of the six votes for 66%. Sam Tricase and Steven Kennedy came in next with three votes a piece for 50% of the vote. Charter members Jonah Simons and Cory Zinn received to votes a piece along with A.J. Love and Josh Smith. Justin Glass, older brother of Hall of Fame inductee Jeremy Glass, received one vote as did Zach Hilliard and David Oliverio. Ricky Menendez and Eric Post both received votes as write in candidates.
The Blue Blazers Hall of Fame was established in 2003 and has a membership of nine former players. Five of those players were on the 2005 undefeated team. Four were charter members of the team. In order for you to be elected you must receive 75% of the vote unless half of the ballots are not turned in, which in case only 50% is necessary. Once a player is voted into the elite club, their jersey number is retired and can only be worn with their permission. Hall of Fame inductee Nathaniel Zinn allowed his younger brother Cory Zinn to wear his retired number 5 during the 2005 season. This is the only instance when a retired number was allowed to be worn.
Next year we can expect there to be a number of players inducted due to the fact that the 2006 championship squad will become eligible for the first time.
