Blue Blazers to Play Beavers in Championship

Blue Blazers Press

The Blue Blazers have reached the Harrison County Parks and Recreation for the first time ever in franchise history. On Saturday, they defeated the Beavers 60-54 to win the winner’s bracket side of the double elimination bracket. They will face the Beavers today (Monday) at 5:15 in North View, the Beavers have to win twice to win the title.

On the season, the Blue Blazers are 2-0 versus the Beavers, having won 58-45 on February 7th and the win this past Saturday. Daniel Post was held to 10 points below his season average in the first meeting and 20 points below his season average in the second meeting. He will need a big game tonight if the Blazers plan on capturing a title.

Jeremy Glass got into foul trouble this past Saturday and only have 4 points, which is 13 below his 17 point average. The lack of scoring by Glass and Post was overshadowed by Josh Dunbar’s career high 32 point game. J.D. Lister had 10 points to extend his career 10 point games to 29.

Eric Post, head coach of the Blue Blazers, has never won an overall championship in basketball as a player or a coach. While in 8th grade in 1998 he lost in the Washington Irving AA Championship game by 2 points. In 9th grade his YMCA team the Wolfpac lost in the championship by single digits. His 11th grade year his Parks and Recreation Team, Team Roch, lost in the championship by 10 points after a rule change which stopped the clock after every call. He hopes he can overcome his 0-3 record as a player and win his first championship as a coach tonight.

The Blue Blazers franchise has come a long way since its conception in 2001. There have been 29 players pass through during those 4 seasons. There have been 6 assistant coaches over those 4 years. Thousands of points, many fouls, and many threes have been taken since the Blue Blazers first took the court in the 2001 Christmas Tournament. Hall of Fame players have graced the floor, Robert C. Byrd, Bridgeport, and Notre Dame stand outs have played in the blue and white. Close games and blowouts, euphoria and absolute heartbreak. Arguments and hugs. This franchise has seen it all except for a championship. All of the previous Blue Blazer losses, all of those former players could be redeemed tonight with a victory over the Beavers.
