Eric Post, longtime head coach of the Blue Blazers, won his 50th career game Saturday with a 103-66 victory over the Shock'em All Stars in front of the Homecoming crowd. Post, who began coaching in 2001 as a senior in high school, was very proud of the achievement.
"I am very happy to make it this far," said Eric Post following the game. "It has been a lot of fun working with the great players over the years. It is because of the Mark Gorbys, the Travis Messengers, the Glass brothers, and many other players that this franchise has won so many games. Look at the team this year, players like Josh Dunbar and J.D. Lister have carried this team for 2 years now. Jeremy Glass for 3. I've had a lot of help getting this far."
Post began in the Christmas tournament in 2001 with a victory to star his career. Saturday's game was his 74th game on the bench. Sam Tricase, his longtime assistant, was on the bench with Post. Steve Kennedy, beat writer for the Blue Blazers and former player, played in the first game and watched the 50th as a fan.
"Eric Post's achievement of winning 50 games has changed Roman numeral 50 from L to W in honor of his winning attitude and winning spirit. Usually if you prove something once or twice that is enough, Eric Post has proven he's a winner 50 times which has forced all to recognize his greatness," Steve Kennedy said following the game.
It was a historic game for Eric's brother Daniel as well. Daniel surpassed the all time scoring record with a lay-up in the closing seconds of the first quarter. He went on to break his own single game points record with 36.
"I was proud to be able to break those records in Eric's 50th win in front of the Homecoming crowd. It also felt good to do it against the Shock'em All Stars since they have talked so much trash to me due to jealousy. I guess actions do speak louder than words," Daniel Post said.
