I had the pleasure of sitting down with the single season scoring record for the Blue Blazers JD Lister who is affectionately referred to as “Swole.” Swole scored 153 points in his first season as Blazer to set the record. We talked about his success as well as things for the upcoming season.
Steven Kennedy (SK): “Hello Swole it was nice of you to agree to the interview.”
Swole: “It was my pleasure.”
SK: “First Question Swole is How does it feel to own the single season scoring record for the Blue Blazers?”
Swole: “It feels great, it is nice to know that I made a solid contribution to the team, it would have been a lot sweeter to have won a championship too, but I am happy with the scoring crown.”
SK: “Why did you decide to come back and play for the Blue Blazers another year?”
Swole: “Well my back was not in the best shape to play high school ball and I figured I would have more fun in p&r.”
SK: “What part of your game was most useful in setting the single season scoring record?”
Swole: “That’s a dumb question, my size of course.”
SK: “OK there was no need for that, what part of your game would you like to work on most to improve for the upcoming season?”
Swole: “My jumping and my post moves.”
SK: “After setting the single season scoring record, do you feel there is anything left to prove in a Blue Blazers uniform?”
Swole: “Winning a championship is number 1 but setting the all time record would be nice too.”
SK: “What do you feel this team can do differently to be able to finally bring a championship to the Blue Blazers?”
Swole: “Well this team is very solid from top to bottom, we have great athletes and can bully teams on defense. This team has unselfish players who make the passes they need to make to get the open shots, that is one thing last years team did not have.”
SK: “This being your second season under Coach Post, do you feel you can take more of a leadership role this season?”
Swole: “Well last year I tried to take the vocal leadership role but the players did not respond well, they would get angry, but hopefully this year we have a group of guys that will listen to not only me but Eric and the other coaches. Also I am going to bust my ass to help us win games and hopefully set the tone for everyone else.”
SK: “Do you think about the fact that with 124 more points you will tie the career record of 277 points set by Travis Messenger?”
Swole: “Oh yeah, and I think with the help of my teammates I can accomplish it and set a new record that will stand for some time. I have my own Dwayne Wade a.k.a dummy who will be giving me passes so I’m not worried about it.”
SK: “How did you get the nickname Swole?”
Swole: “Ha Ha good question that many people have asked. Well, you have to go back to my freshman year in high school at basketball states. I was eating with former blazer AJ Love when we saw this huge guy walk by and AJ said BIG SWOLE, BIG, BIG!!! I was like that’s me man lol and he started calling me that then the name stuck and now that’s how I’m known to many people.”
SK: “Final off the wall, zany question, Who would win in a fight Mighty Mouse or Underdog?”
Swole: “Mighty Mouse, to Hell with that pussy underdog. Mighty Mouse is on that Steroid Crèam so of course he gonna win.”
The Blue Blazers fresh off a Christmas tournament win are blazing hot going into the regular season. All great basketball teams have a big time post presence. And there has not been one on the Blue Blazers like “BIG SWOLE.”
