In early 2001, Team Roch, coached by William Rochinich captured second place in the Harrison County Parks and Recreation Basketball League. With dreams of a title, this team of mostly juniors decided to give it one more try. Flashforward to late 2001. Rochinich decides to play, and bench player Eric Post decides to take over coaching duties.
On the night of the first practice of this returning team, Rochinich informs Post that he should "cheer the team" more than coach them. Post, pushed more by the news of Bobby Menedez coming onto the team to help coach, decides along with a few others, to break away from the former Team Roch to form another team.
So Post, along with Mark Gorby decide to put a team together. Gorby decides to play, along with another former Team Roch player Travis Messenger. Steve Kennedy and Jonah Simons were quickly added. In search of a point guard, Thomas Crowley is signed, along with his friends John Crowley and Nathaniel Zinn. Younger brother of Eric Post, Daniel Post also joins the team. The Christmas tournament begins and Cory Zinn, younger brother of Nathaniel Zinn, plays well for the newly named Blue Blazers, his debut highlighted by a puking incident near the end of a game. Thus the 2002 Blue Blazers were formed.
