Mark Gorby has officially resigned as the general manager and the assistant coach of the Blue Blazers. There have been talks over the past few weeks of him not returning. The first Most Valuable Player of the Blue Blazers decided that it was time to move on. “I’m done,” an emotional Gorby said at a practice two weeks ago at Morgan Gym. “I’m not going to be coaching anymore.”
Gorby seemed to be more frustrated this year with his role as General Manager, which could have lead to his resigning. After last season’s disappointing 10-8 record, Eric Post turned more toward players recruiting other players rather than Gorby inking them. Although no controversy was ever brought up, one can believe that this may have been a reason for this decision.
Gorby will be remembered more for his playing accolades than for his coaching. He was a charter member of the Blue Blazers, having helped form the team in 2001. The Mark Gorby Award is given every year to the Most Valuable Player on the Blue Blazers team. His 13.1 Points Per Game is rated the top among career average for any Blue Blazer player. He was well known for his deadly three point shot and his ability to hit the clutch jumper.
The Blue Blazers released the following statement:
“Mark Gorby was a good assistant coach and a great player for the Blue Blazers franchise. His contributions to this team will not be forgotten. He was the very first Blue Blazer, he was the very first General Manager, and he has an award named after him. His accomplishments in his short tenure have been great. The Blue Blazers franchise would like to wish Mark good luck with all his future endowments and thanks him for what he has done for this organization.”
