"Hi Kevin." Genna responded, unsure of what to say to him. Kevin looked at her and realized that he'd missed her in the months she'd been gone. In the next instant, he remembered the circumstances surrounding those months and he became angry.
Genna watched as Kevin gazed fondly at her and then seconds later, she watched his eyes grow hard before saying harshly "What are you doing here?"
Genna sighed and opened her mouth to speak but stopped as she gazed at something behind Kevin.
Kevin looked over his shoulder at what she was looking at and saw Drew emerging from the shadows of the hall.
"Genna, this is Drew." he said as Drew came to stand beside him, not offering either woman an explaination of who the other was.
Kevin stood aside and motioned for Genna to come inside. She did and sat in a chair by the couch. When she did, Kevin repeated his initial question.
"What are you doing here, Genna?" he asked as he went to sit on the couch.
Genna hesitated and anyone could tell she was nervous. She took a deep breath and began. "Kevin...I had to...I mean...I needed to...comeback and t-tell you...."
"Tell me what, Genna?"
"T-the reason I left." She said and stopped.
Aprehension crept up on Kevin and his heart sped up. Instintively he know that what Genn had to tell him would change him...maybe forever.
"Tell me." he ground out through clenched teeth.
Genna looked at her hands in her lap for a moment and then looked up. There were tears in her eyes and Kevin could tell this was difficult for her to say. "Do you think we could have some privacy?" she asked meekly, looking at Drew.
"No." Kevin said bluntly. "Continue."
Genna nodded sullenly and continued. The tears in her eyes spilled over as she struggled to say what she needed to.
"I was.....pr-pregnant."
The three words hit Kevin like a blow to the chest and stole his breath. "Pregnant?" he asked dumbly. But if he was surprised by that announcement the he was shocked into silence by her next words.
"I had an abortion." she whispered quietly.
Kevin was struck speechless. He didn't say a word as his jaw clenched and unclenched. Genna's tears flowed down her face as she waited for Kevin to react.
After a minute or two of silence, Genna couldn't stand it anymore. "Kevin....please say something." she pleaded through her tears. "I'm so sorry.....I--"
"Wait a second." Kevin said, seeming remarkably calm. "You're sorry?" His voice rose with every word. "You killed my child and you're sorry?" He leaned forward and his voice got louder. "You murdered my baby....and you're SORRY?!" He yelled at her. He stood up from the couch and grabbed Genna by her upper arms and made her stand. "How could you be so stupid, Genna?! How could you even consider doing something like this?!" By this time he was screaming as loud as he could.
Genna was crying uncontrollably now. "I'm so sorry, Kevin! It was a terrible mistake!"
"A MISTAKE?!! Is that what you call it? A MISTAKE?! Damn you, Genna!!" Kevin gave her a hard shake as if to shake some sense into her. "Did you even once think of me?! Did you even once think that I might like a say in this?! Damn you, Genna!!" He repeated and let go of her, giving her a small shove and sending her back into her seat where she curled up and cried uncontrollably.
Kevin glared down at her and said through clenched teeth "I could kill you for this, Genna." His chest rose and fell as his breathing came harshly. He grabbed her arms again and brought her to her feet once more. Genna felt his fingers digging into her upper arms as he yelled at her. "You killed my child!!" He yelled as he shook her violently. He continued yelling at her and shaking her as she cried and begged for forgiveness.
As he continued shaking her, Drew finally stepped forward. "Kevin stop." she said as she laid a hand on his upper arm. He didn't seem to hear her as he continued. "Kevin stop!" she said louder, pulling on his arm. "You are going to hurt her and that won't help anything!" Kevin seemed to finally hear her and he let go of Genna, sending her flying back into her chair again.
"Get the hell out of here." he ground out. "And if I ever see you again, so help me, you'd better run."
Genna only looked at him through her tears but didn't move. Drew realized the murderous glint in Kevin's eyes and took her arm and pulled her up, leading her to the door. "Th-thank you." Genna whispered to her outside on Kevin's doorstep..
"Don't thank me. I was tempted to let him kill you. You deserve it." Drew said to her. "I was only thinking of him. Do yourself a favor and get far away from here. You don't want to ever see either of us again." And with that she went back into Kevin's house, leaving Genna standing there.
Back inside, Drew walked silently back to Kevin's living room. She found Kevin laying silently on the couch, gazing up at the ceiling. She approached him silently and sat on the edge of the couch, facing his head. He didn't turn his head to look at her and Drew wasn't sure that he was even aware of her presence until when she softly laid a hand on his bare chest, he covered it with his own. Neither of them said a word for a few minutes then Drew silently urged him to come into the bedroom.
She led him to the bed where his laid down on it, underneath the covers, on his side. Drew then undressed down to her underwear and searched through Kevin's closet until she found an old football jersey and slipped it on. Silently, she crossed the room and slipped into bed beside him. She moved closer to him and he put his arms around her and pulled her close.
The laid like that for a while and Drew thought he had fallen asleep. She relaxed herself and started to fall asleep and just before she drifted off, she felt his silent tears as they slipped down his face.
