Kevin remained excited for a full minute before his hopes were crashed. He was thinking about how much he wanted to get to know Drew better when she said "Let me go get Mark." He immediatly frowned as she walked away. Dammit. He thought. She has a boyfriend. Just my rotten luck.
When Drew returned, she had with her the tallest person he'd ever seen in his life. Ok, well maybe not the tallest. But he was pretty tall.
At six foot one, Kevin usually towered over men but this Mark guy topped him a good six inches. Standing next to the petite Drew, he looked like a giant.
"Everybody, I want you to meet my brother, Mark." Drew said and rattled off every one of their names in introduction.
Ok. So this guy ISN'T her boyfriend. Somehow the fact that he was her brother didn't make him feel much better.
As they left the restaurant, Kevin looked guiltily over at Olivia. Once again he'd forgotten about his date. Somehow, he had to have Drew alone for a few minutes, at least. Sighing, he tried to formulate a plan but nothing came to mind.
They all went to their cars and headed to the club that was down the street. They arrived minutes later and entered the club that was alive with blaring music. The group of six found a booth in the corner and all ordered drinks. When the waitress returned to their table, Drew took her drink and sipped on it, all the while moving her body to the rhthym of the music.
"I need someone to dance with." she announced to the group. Her eyes found Kevin's and looked into them meaningfully. Kevin's breath nearly stopped at the implication in her eyes. Kevin held her gaze as long as he could until her eyes slid past him to look at Olivia. They stayed there for a moment before she looked back at him sympathetically and gave an almost unnoticable shrug of the shoulders and a tiny smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
"Come on, big brother, come dance with me." she said, smiling over at Mark.
"I don't think so, sis." he said as he finished the rest of his drink and set the empty glass down. "I need to be getting home. Becky's working the night shift tonight and I need to get home to take care of Raegan." he said speaking of his wife and year old daughter. He kissed his sister on the cheek, said goodbye to the rest of the group and left, paying for his drink on his way out.
Drew sighed and stood up saying "I'll find someone to dance with." and danced her way on to the dance floor.
The minute she was gone, Laura turned her smiling face to the group. "She's always been the outgoing one."
Kevin's eyes followed Drew on to the dance floor as she moved her body sensually to the rhthym of the music. He seemed hypnotized as he watched her pick a partner from the crowd and move her body with his to the music.
Kevin wanted to ask Laura a million questions about Drew but he couldn't in front of Olivia. Once again thinking about his date, he turned to her and asked her to dance. Not that he really wanted to but he was feeling guilty about neglecting her. They made their way on to the dance floor and Kevin pulled Olivia close as a somewhat slow song started.
Over the music, Olivia somehow started another long winded story. Kevin listened to her incessant chatter until he couldn't stand it anymore. He shut her up the only way he knew how. He kissed her. The moment his lips touched hers he knew it was a mistake. He felt nothing. Now, after he had done it, he had an obligation to her. He lifted his head and looked into her smiling eyes and sighed. Now he was never going to get rid of her.
After the song was over, Olivia informed him that she had to leave and he escorted her to her car. As they stood by her car, she leaned her face up for another kiss and Kevin obliged her, knowing the whole time that it wasn't a good idea. He was getting deeper and deeper into his mistake.
When finally she left and after Kevin had made promises to see her again, he finally made his way back into the club.
He slid back into the booth as Howie and Laura were leaving it. Drew had returned from her dancing and Kevin found himself quite suddenly alone with her.
His heart picked up speed slightly as he looked across the table at her. She smiled over at him and once again her smile had the same effect on Kevin as it did the first time he saw it.
"So, Kev, tell me about Livvie." Kevin was held mesmerized by the beauty of her eyes and smile and didn't fully comprehend her question.
"What?" he murmured softly, leaning closer, over the table.
"Livvie. Olivia, your date."
"Oh." Kevin said, nonchalantly, waving a hand through the air in dismissal. "Just a blind date."
Drew nodded and before she could persue the subject, he quickly changed it. "Where did you get your unusual coloring from, Drew?" he asked huskily, moving around the table on the booth's bench to get closer to her.
"Coloring?" she asked him, smiling slightly as she took another sip of her drink.
"Your skin." Kevin murmured huskily as he moved even closer. "It's so dark and your eyes are so light. That along with your jet black hair, you look like a dark angel." He picked up a strand of that same hair and felt it between his fingers, loving the feel of it. "It all makes for a striking combination, angel."
Kevin was once again held mesmerized as he stared at her mouth. Her tongue snaked out of her mouth to wet her lips and she smiled at him. "My mother." she whispered.
"Hmmm?" Kevin asked, unaware that he'd asked a question at all.
"My mother is Spanish. That's where I get my dark complextion from." She easily moved her gaze away from him and picked up her drink.
"Sp-Spanish?" Kevin stuttered.
"Yeah. My grandparents moved over here to America when she was a little girl and my mom was raised here. That's why I don't have some name like Consuela or something like that. Drew is bad enough."
Kevin finally came out of his daze and tore his eyes from her lips. He took a deep breath and a large swallow of his drink in an effort to calm himself. When he finally did, Kevin's brow wrinkled in a frown. He watched Drew and saw that she wasn't as effected by him as he was by her. Or maybe she was and was just good at hiding it. Either way, Kevin decided to tread lightly.
"How did you get the name Drew?" He asked as he moved a little bit farther away from her.
"Well, my parents were hoping for a boy." she said. "After my mom had me, she stayed awake long enough to say the name Drew and passed out. She didn't even find out that I was a girl until after she woke up and they'd already signed the birth certificate. It's ok, though, I like my name. Do you wanna dance?"
The question was unexpected and Kevin did a double take. He nodded and followed her to the dance floor.
They started to dance and Kevin drew in a sharp breath everytime her body brushed his. He wanted to pull her close and feel her body against his but everytime he reached for her, she danced just out of is reach.
They danced together for much of the night until Howie and Laura finally found them and told them they were leaving. Kevin and Drew stayed and danced for a little while longer until they too decided to call it a night.
Kevin paid for their drinks and walked with Drew out to his car. As they approached his 4Runner, Kevin turned to Drew to say his goodbyes to her. Before he could get any words out, Drew's body was pressed to his and she pulled his head down for a scorching kiss. Kevin returned the kiss but Drew was definatly in control of it. Kevin's heart thudded in his chest and his breath quickened. He lifted his arms to put them around her but the moment his hands touched her she drew back.
"See you around, sexy." she whispered huskily and was off into the night, not looking back.
"Bye, angel." he whispered with no one to hear him but the night.
