Sighing again, AJ turned to his beautiful blonde date. He supposed he should ask her to dance, they hadn't all night. "Wanna dance, sweatheart?" he asked, turning on his infamous charm almost out of habit. His date beamed beautifully at him and accepted his offer.
He led her to the dancefloor and AJ smiled and winked at Drew as he passed her before turning to take his date into his arms. They damced well together and AJ looked into her pale blue eyes, already knowing what she was about to say.
"I love you, AJ." she said.
"I love you too, baby." he responded. He supposed he loved her. Or maybe he didn't. Not nearly the magnitude that Kevin loved Drew. But telling her so seemed to pacify her for a few minutes and she laid her head on his shoulder, saying nothing more.
Having never been in love before, AJ didn't really know what it felt like. He'd been with the blonde in his arms now for five months. The longest relationship he'd had in years. It wasn't that he dumped girls because he only wanted one thing from her, far from it. The women he dated always got tired of waiting for him to feel something for them. And AJ tried. He tried hard to drum up some sort of feelings but he couldn't. He already resolved himself to the fact that he would never find the kind of earth shattering, mind blowing love of his life that people read about. That Kevin had found.
So he would continue to lie to women, telling them he loved them until they caught a clue and left him.
Sighing agian, he looked away from Drew and Kevin and continued to dance with his date.
******************************
"You ready to get out of here yet?" Kevin asked Drew as they danced. Drew nodded and without saying anything to anyone, they left the party.
"So, where do you want to go?" Kevin asked once they were in the limo. When Drew was silent Kevin said "I have an idea. I know a small club dwontown. One of my friends owns it. I've been wanting to go for a while now. Want to go?"
"Kevin, I can't go to a club dressed like this." Drew said, looking down at the beautiful formal dress she was wearing.
"What are you talking about, you look great."
Drew rolled her eyes. They'd get stared at anyway, after all, he was a Backstreet Boy.
By the time they reached the club, Kevin had disposed of his suit jacket and rolled the sleeves of his midnight blue shirt up to his forearms.
They walked in and suddenly Drew didn't feel foolish in the clothing she wore. Looking around her, she saw many people dressed more outlandishly than she.
They'd only gone a few feet when Kevin stopped and embraced a handsome young man who was obviously the friend who owned the club. "Drew, this is Remy Deveraux. He owns this shack." Kevin shouted over the music. "Remy, this is Drew."
"I'm honored that Kevin brought such a beautiful woman into my club, Drew." Remy said in a distinctive Cajun accent as he kissed the back of her hand.
Kevin rolled his eyes and hit Remy on the shoulder. "That's enough Rem." He said as he put an arm around Drew's shoulder. "You can't have her, she's mine."
Remy put on such a forlorn, dissapointed look that Drew and Kevin both laughed at him. Remy smiled and said "I have to check on some things. Let me know if you need anything. It was nice meeting you, chere." He walked away, shouting orders at a few employees as he went.
Kevin led Drew directly to the dancefloor. As they danced to an uptempo song, Drew watched Kevin. His moves were fluid and seductive. He moved with the music instead of moving to it.
"You keep looking at me like that and I'll have to forget all about this club." Kevin whispered in her ear.
"I was jsut thinking that you dance so well. Is there anything you don't do to perfection?" She whispered back.
She looked into his eyes and instantly recognized the fire and desire in them as he whispered "Nothing."
A few moments later, the music stopped and the crowd turned to see Remy standing on the stage in front of the microphone. He called the crowd's attention to him and then spoke. "It's open mike night tonight. Who's next?!" The crowd looked around at each other, some dared others to go up but no one volenteered. Remy looked around and encouraged someone to come up on staged but no one stepped forward.
Remy looked pleadingly at Kevin but Kevin only smiled and shook his head. "Come on, Drew. Help us out and sing a song for us." Drew's eyes widened and she shook her head but Kevin was already gently pushing her towards the stage.
"Kevin. What are you doing? I can't go up there and sing."
Kevin only smiled and winked at her and in only a moment they were at the stage. "Don't worry, sweetheart, you'll do fine." He gave her a good luck kiss on the lips and Remy pulled her up on stage.
As Drew stood up on the stage, her knees shook. "I can't do this." She whispered to Remy.
"Come on, chere. Just one little song. Please." Drew groaned and knew she was stuck. She'd sing one song and they'd get the hell out of there. And Kevin would definately hear it from her when she was done.
She took a deep breath and in an instant knew the perfect song to sing. She turned and whispered it to Remy, who in turn, instructed the band.
The lone piano began to play as she stepped up to the microphone.
She listened to the piano and felt the music flow through her and then added her own clear, strong voice to it.
What a ravenges of spirit
Conjured this temptous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rule of love
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has led you though it
You do what you have to do
All the eyes in the club were on her as she sang but hers were only in one spot as she sang the next lines. On Kevin
But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
Kevin could scarcely breathe. She looked so beautiful in her gorgeous dress on stage. Her beautiful voice sang the cords of the song so perfectly it left him with goose bumps.
Every moment marked with apparitions
Of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Trying to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
And I don't know how to let you go
Drew stepped back from the microphone for a moment as the song drifted into a short piano solo. Seconds later, she stepped forward again and continued her song.
Glowing ember
Burning hot, burning slow
No one in the room was dancing. All eyes were on the beautiful woman singing the beautiful song and the handsome young man whose eyes were locked with hers. Their gazes never wavered and they never took their eyes from one another. It was obvious that it was easy for the young woman to get up on stage and sing because to her there was only one other person in the room.
And deep within I'm shaken
By the violence of existing
For only you
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
The tempo of the song picked up only slightly as Drew sang clearly and beautifully.
Don't know how to let you go
Don't know how
To let you go
Drew's voice dropped as the piano slowed to almost stopping. She looked directly into Kevin's eyes and no where else as she sang the last line.
I don't know how to let you go
Kevin was waiting for her as she stepped off of the stage and immediatly took her into his arms.
"My God, Drew." he whispered emotionally.
Drew clung to Kevin and didn't say a word. What she'd been yearning, needing to say these past weeks, she was never able to say. But all of it came out in one song. She was finally able to communicate to him all of her feelings. The fear she had of letting him go. The emptiness she felt when he wasn't there.
The two of them left, seeing no reason to stay any longer. The crowd watched the extaordinary couple leave and no one said a word until they were out the door.
The ride to Drew's house was made in silence. The two of them clung to one another in the limo.
As they stood outside Drew's door, neither could think of a word to say. Drew opened her door and crossed the threshold but stopped when Kevin made no move to follow her. She turned to look at him but he wouldn't meet her eyes.
"I've got to.." he whispered and nodded toward the limo, unable to finish his sentence.
He means to leave me. Now.
Drew launched herself into his arms and he hugged her to him tightly. Tears streamed freely down her face and they threatened Kevin's eyes too.
"Please, Kevin." she begged him. "Please don't go. Don't leave me."
Kevin shook his head, unable to respond. He didn't say a word but backed her up until they were inside her house and he kicked the door shut with his heel.
The moment their lips touched, a fire was lit within them. Their bodies had longed for each other for so long, their was no denying them. Their hands groped at each other as they sought to get closer and closer. His mouth moved over hers expertly and they were both lost.
He tore his mouth from hers and looked into her eyes, glazed with passion. "Drew, are you sure?"
She didn't answer him, only put her hand on the back of his neck and pulled his mouth back to hers. He took her action as an affirmative and quickly bent and picked her up and carried her to her bedroom.
He set her on her feet in the middle of her bedroom and their mouths never left each other. Drew's hands tore at his clothing as she tried to rid him of his shirt. Finally, all of the buttons were undone and the shirt slid off of him. Her hands slid over his now bare upper body greedily as his hands moved to unzip her dress.
The zipper came down with ease and he moved it over her shoulders and it drifted to the floor. Her bra came off next and both of them gasped at their first feel of flesh against flesh. Kevin's hand moved to her breast and she groaned as he gently massaged it, teasing her nipple with his fingers.
He backed her up until her knees touched the bed and they fell on to it together. Her legs went around his waist and his mouth immediatly fastened on her breast. Drew's breathing became more and more erratic as he teased and tormented her nipple.
His mouth returned to hers as he slipped his hand down and fastened a finger aroung the side of her lacy, white underwear. He pulled until they came completely off. His hand began it's journey back up her leg, to her inner thigh until he touched her most sensitive spot. Drew cried out into his mouth as his finger traced a erotic rhythm inside of her. Her passion grew faster and faster until she was standing on the edge, and his hand stopped.
Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Kevin with his eyes sqeezed shut, obviously trying to control himself. Sweat gleamed off of both of their bodies and the sound of their heavy breathing was the only sound in the room.
Drew couldn't stand to wait any longer. Her hands tore at his belt buckle and she unfastened his pants and slid them off of him along with his underwear until he was gloriously naked.
Their eyes locked with one another as he situated himself right at the edge of her womanhood. Drew's eyes drifted closed again and she moaned loudly as she felt the tip of his manhood rub her teasingly. He continued until she was nearly crazy with wanting him and screaming out his name. He entered her fully in one swift motion. The two of them gasped outloud.
"I love you, Drew." he whispered. He hadn't meant to. He hadn't meant to say anything at all. It just came out. But there was no use taking it back sense it was the way he felt and has felt since before he could remember. "Whatever happens, however far apart we are, I will always love you."
Neither of them said anything more as he began to move swiftly inside of her. Their moans of pleasure were nearly drown out by the creaking of the bed as he thrust in and out of her.
They called out each other's names as they swiftly approached they edge. Kevin pressed deeper and deeper into her with every thrust until they were finally pitched over the edge together with one final, powerful thrust.
For moments, all that could be heard in the room was their erratic breathing, slowly returning to normal.
Sweat dripped off of their bodies as Kevin raised up to look at her. "I have to go pretty early in the morning." he whispered sorrowfully.
"When?" he whispered in answer.
"Dawn." Drew nodded and pulled his mouth back down to meet hers.
They loved each other all through the night, never once stopping to sleep.
And when dawn came, he was gone.
