Chapter 6 -- The Role of the Parent

Following are guidelines for parents involved with their child in RVSC’s youth soccer program:

1. In competition someone always loses. If your child’s team wins, help him win gracefully. If her team loses, do not allow your child to become negative.

2. Make having fun and skill development a priority.

3. Disagreements with the coach or officials do not belong on the public soccer field. Questions, input and positive suggestions should be voiced to the coach and/or club in an adult atmosphere.

4. Ensure that your child brings the necessary and appropriate equipment to and from all soccer practices and games.

5. Encourage your children as they play the game, but leave “coaching” to the coaches and “officiating” to the referees.

6. Remember -- they are just children. Allow your child to be a child.
