The SCA
A.K.A. The Society for Creative Anachronisms
Greetings all... This page is for my family and friends. It's also for all those people who are always saying, "What the hell is the SCA?" Well, the SCA is a group that recreates the middle ages. I know what you are thinking... 'What, is this chick nuts? Doing something educational for fun, and her vacations?!?!? Well the SCA is an amazing group, filled with a bunch of wonderful people from around the globe. It's not all about learning history. For me it's a group where I can have fun, meet people with similar interests, learn some neat things along the way, and a way to get away from the hectic, insane world of today. Almost all of my family, and most of my friends are in the SCA.

The people in the above photo are all in my "Household". Which basically means we are all friends and/or family, and we decided to make our own little niche in the big society that is the SCA. We camp together, fight together, eat together, and party together. I love them all greatly. My household is called "House Silver Talon". Only a few members of House Silver Talon are pictured above.
There are many activities you can do in the SCA. Probably one of the most popular things to do is Rattan Fighting. In the photo above you see a few people in armor after a day of battle. Both men and women can participate. Everyone wears armor and helmets that have to be made of suitable materials, cover vital areas of the body, and be deemed safe by the "marshals" Marshals are people who have fought for some time themselves and they have to know the rules and regulations for fighting and fighters. If the marshals think someone's armor or weapons are unsafe, then they are not allowed to play.
Another popular activity is fencing. The fencing done in the SCA is not like Olympic fencing. We try to make it as much like it would have been back then, only a lot safer! Here again, the fencers have to wear specific padded clothes, fencing masks, and have safe weapons.
For the artistic types like myself there are the arts and sciences or "A&S". There are all kinds of things you can participate in when it comes to A&S. There are classes, songs, story telling, jewelry making, "garb" making (the clothes we wear), candle making, brewing, etc. You can learn many of the crafts and trades they did in the middle ages.
