History of the Ford Mustang

On April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang entered the market. The Mustang was originally named the 64½ because of the month it was released. The Mustang has been changed over the various years and has developed into many different models. Few features of the Mustang have changed such as the grill, chrome, and extra accessories.

In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Ford released the Fastback and Notchback. The Fastback 2+2 was a new 1970 model. Among the powerful engines Mustang developed, Ford came up with the idea of a new engine that made the Mustang a muscle car. A bigger engine then hit the market for early models.

In the late 1970’s, Mustang came up with a bigger and better family car with more comfortable room inside the interior. In 1979, the Mustang was the pace car of the 62nd Indianapolis 500.

In the early 1980’s, new improved front-ends and better aerodynamics set more horsepower to the Mustang. The new LX 5.0 Liter was a big seller of the 80’s and improved the production run. The LX could soon be rebuilt to the GT by building in the GT engine and GT suspension for only less than $2,000.

In 1990, Mustang improved their electronics and monitor pods by updating technology.

Soon through 1993-1995, the all new Mustang GT was introduced and was Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. Along with the GT, the new Cobra R model was released in 1995 with a sportier and faster engine.

"Ford Mustang" a car that has been called the American sports car. Since its introduction in ’64, it has found its place in the hearts of many Americans. The galloping stallion has placed itself in our society.
