Tajiri makes his way to the ringside area, accompanied by a sombre looking Torrie Wilson. Billy Kidman enters next to virtually no reaction. The match starts and the two men lock up before Kidman clotheslines Tajiri and follows up with some arm drag take downs. The two men exchange offense before the action shifts to the outside. Torrie attempts to help Tajiri up but he refuses her help.

Kidman goes for a super powerbomb again but Tajiri spits the red mist into his face to counter it. He hooks Kidman's legs, holds the ropes and gets the 1-2-3.

Winner: Tajiri

After the match, Michael Cole talks to Tajiri about his recent change of heart. Tajiri utters something in Japanese, grabs Torrie by the hand and storms off.

Backstage, Faarooq found Bradshaw and the two caught up on things. The reunion was cut short, though because Scott Hall's entrance music hit and Bradshaw ran off for his match.

Scott Hall vs Bradshaw

Bradshaw arrived at the ring to find himself outnumbered, as Scott Hall was joined at ringside by X-Pac. X-Pac still has Kane's mask on as he stands in the ring and taunts Bradshaw. The APA music hits again and out comes Faarooq to even up the sides! Faarooq enters the ring, hugs Bradshaw and then steps outside in Bradshaw's corner.

Bradshaw starts the match off by clotheslining Hall before wailing away with several punches, the last of which drops Scott. He backs Hall into the corner and continues to punch away. A DDT by Bradshaw and Hall bails to the outside but backs right into Faarooq who drops him with a couple punches. X-Pac comes running up from behind but Faarooq drops him too.

Forearms by Bradshaw and Hall falls and another pin attempt which doesn't go anywhere. Irish whip and an elbow and a big boot and Hall is down. Irish whip by Hall, but Bradshaw reverses it and charges with the Clothesline from Hell. Pin attempt but X-Pac puts Hall's foot on the ropes. Faarooq chases X-Pac around, catches him and drives him into the steel post. Hall with a low blow in the ring, causing a rollup for the 1-2-3 victory!

Winner: Scott Hall

Backstage, we see Vince McMahon strut to Ric Flair's lockerroom. He walks in and Flair asks him what he wants. McMahon asks him about that nWo - pretty damn impressive. But he's here to talk about something else. Vince says he's beginning to like his style - he's beginning to know what it's like to be an owner. Whatever you do for your employees, it's never enough. They are ungrateful and question everything you do. McMahon says that he is now beginning to feel the heat. And now he's gone ahead and named himself the ref in the Austin/Undertaker match. Either he's a fool or maybe it's a stroke of brilliance, Vinca can't tell yet. Flair says that Vince has no clue who he is and never will. One thing is for sure is that he will never be like Vince McMahon. Vince says maybe not, but you could try and offers his hand for a handshake. Flair says never and Vince walks away. Flair and Arn then look at each other in disgust.

WWF Women's Championship
Jazz (c) vs Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus came to the ring attempting to retake the Women's Championship. Trish stood in anticipation in the ring, but instead of seeing Jazz coming down the entrance ramp, out strolled Molly Holly. Molly gets on the mic and says the fans don't want their Women's champ to be a cheater. They don'y want their Women's Champ to be someone who flaunts her body around. They want their champ to be pure, and wholesome. Molly then attacked Trish with the mic. Molly threw Trish outside of the ring and was thrown into the steps.

Jazz then comes out and takes advantage of a weakened Trish. Jazz punches Trish ala Shane McMahon. Trish comes back and whips Jazz into the rope and delivers a kick to Jazz's head. Trish puts Jazz onto the top rope and delivers her handspring hurricanranna. Trish whips Jazz into the rope and attempts a back body drop, but Jazz counters it into a sitdown powerbomb. Close two count for Jazz. Jazz proceeds to choke Trish on the ropes. Jazz attempts a splash in the corner, but Trish moved. Trish looked for the Stratusfaction, but Jazz countered into a belly to back suplex. Jazz puts Trish in the boston crab, eventually turns it into the STF and Trish taps.

Winner: Jazz

Mark Loyd comes out and asks Jazz if she thought she would have won even if Molly didn't interfere. Jazz, attempting to disguise her bad microphone skill, just glares at Kelly and leaves.

Edge vs Kurt Angle

Back live in the arena, Kurt Angle heads to the ring first, after which Edge makes his way down. The two lock up Angle gets the upperhand with a headlock followed by a shoulder block. Angle comes running at Edge, but is greeted by a couple punches which turn the tide in Edge's favor. Dropkick by Edge, followed by a flapjack and Angle is thrown to the outside. Angle pulls Edge out and the two quickly do battle there before heading back in. Stomps by Angle, followed by two punches and Irish Whip which is reversed into a reverse heel kick. Angle recovers however and hits a German suplex before kicking away at Edge as the fans chant Angle Sucks.

In the corner, Angle pounds away with several kicks and punches. Chop by Angle but Edge reverses it and hits two chops of his own. Edge comes running into Angle but Kurt turns around catches him with a belly to belly suplex. The two trade punches but Angle quickly gains control with a suplex, leading into a two count. Reverse chinlock by Kurt and Edge appears out. The ref raises his hand but Edge doesn't let it fall three times (surprise, surprise!) but he can't fight back as Angle swings him to the rope and gets another German Suplex. Angle goes running to the ropes but Edge treats him to his own medicine, a German suplex which consequently knocks out both men.

Edge gets back up first and takes control with an Irish whip and a big backdrop. Cover and Angle kicks out at two. A couple reversals and a side slam and Angle again gets a shoulder up at two. Edge heads to the top rope but Kurt runs up and catches him very quickly in another suplex. Cover and Edge fights out after two. Angle goes for the Ankle-lock but Edge counters it and kicks Angle away. Angle hits three more German Suplexes and goes for the pin, but it's a no-go as Edge is able to kick out yet again. Angle goes for the Angle-slam but Edge counters it and kind of throws Angle in a modified German suplex. Both men down again and the ref starts the count.

Angle is up and comes charging at Edge, but Edge back bodydrops him to the outside. He heads to the top and nails a high cross body which lays out both men. Edge up first and sends Kurt back into the ring as he heads to the top a second time, but this time for a missile dropkick. Cover but it's only a two. Edge is up waiting for Kurt to get up. He goes for the Edge-e-cution but Angle counters and hits the Angle Slam. Pin attempt but Edge kicks out!

Angle pulls down his straps and locks in the Ankle-lock. Edge heads to the ropes but Angle pulls him back before Edge quickly reverses and gets a sunset flip pinfall attempt which Kurt kicks out of. Angle goes to the outside and gets the steel steps. He ignores the ref and goes to hit Edge but he misses and Edge hits the Edge-o-matic but can't put Kurt away with the pin. The referee throws the chair back out and Edge sets up for the spear but Angle kicks him straight in the face. He then proceeds to hit the Angle Slam and gets the 1-2-3 victory.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Angle walks away and Ross comments that these two "will meet again".

At WWF NY, Tazz talks about the main event and says that he asked some fans who they think will win. We then see clips of fans giving their opinions on the match.

Back live in the arena, Chris Jericho's video plays and his music hits as Y2J slowly walks out. He gets to the ring and grabs the mic and says that only thirty days ago he was main eventing Wrestlemania. He was the undisputed champion - the first undisputed champion in the history of the WWF. But tonight, as he stands in this ring, he has no match at Backlash. He's not good enough or worthy enough to have a match so he is here as a common spectator. Jericho says that it's unacceptable - Kidman, Trish and even Maven have matches but the former undisputed champion doesn't! It insults him and hurts his feelings.

But the thing that makes him feel good is that even on the worst day of his career, he is still better than "each and every one of you". And best of all, he is still better than the has-been, Hulk Hogan. Do the fans honestly believe Hogan can win the championship again? That won't happen tonight or ever again. Hogan is not worthy enough to be champion but Chris Jericho is. But since he doesn't have a match, I guess that means he isn't welcome in Kansas City. So he's gonna leave. Jericho calls for his music and then walks away, huffing and puffing.

Backstage, Arn Anderson and Ric Flair talk about tonight's match. Flair says he will call it right down the middle and may the best man win. Undertaker enters the lockerroom and just stares at Flair, only pointing at him before walking back out. Anderson tells Flair to keep his eye on Taker and Flair says he will.

WWF Intercontinental Championship Match
Eddie Guerrero vs Rob Van Dam

The Intercontinental title match is next and the challenger, Eddie Guerrero, emerges from the back first. The reigning champ, Rob Van Dam then enters to a nice ovation.

Guerrero attacks RVD to start off but Van Dam quickly recovers. Spinning heel kick and a cover, but Eddie is up at two. Dragon screw by Guerrero and he starts punching away at Van Dam in the corner. Irish whip is reversed as RVD charged in with a shoulder. Guerrero backs RVD into another corner and punches and kicks away dropping Van Dam and prompting the ref to step in between. Van Dam takes this opportunity to turn the tide during which he gets a two different near fall attempts.

Suplex into a floatover by Van Dam and he heads to the top but Eddie is up and catches him and drops him on the top turnbuckle. Punches by Guerrero and he too heads to the top where he goes for a superplex. RVD counters it thought and jumps outside clotheslining Eddie on the top rope. Modified version of Rolling Thunder but Guerrero small packages him and gets a two count. Van Dam goes for a suplex, but Eddie again counters and rolls him for another two count. Van Dam with a moonsault from the apron to Guerrero on the outside and the two battle away. Van Dam with a reverse kick to Eddie who is laid up on the ring barrier.

Back in the ring, RVD goes for a pin but Eddie out at two. Rolling Thunder attempt but Guerrero puts his knees up, allowing him to take control of the match. Irish whip into a tornado backbreaker followed by a belly to back suplex. Irish whip again and a leg take down into a submission maneuver that I can't seem to identify. It's kind of like a modified Dragon Sleeper I guess. Van Dam fights hisway out but Guerrero still has the advantage and puts him into another unique submission maneuver. Eddie is sure busting out the innovative offense in this match. Van Dam down and Eddie heads to the mat and slingshots himself over on top of RVD. Hurricanrana by Eddie and a cover but RVD manages to prevent the pinfall at two. Two suplexes by Guerrero but Van Dam gets his right shoulder up.

Eddie has RVD down and heads to the top but before he can do anything from there, Van Dam rushes up and kicks him down. From the top, they tussle but Guerrero gets a vicious powerbomb off but can't capitalize it into a pinfall. Elbows to the back of the head but Van Dam with a step over kick and Eddie bails to the outside. He grabs the title belt and takes it into the ring but RVD kicks him and inadvertently hits the referee. Neckbreaker by Guerrero onto the belt and he heads up top for what I presume is the Frog Splash. The ref is back up and Guerrero does indeed hit the frog splash and gets the 1-2-3 win!

Winner: Eddie Guerrero

They show clips of the Scorpion King and then plug the hell out of it.

We are then treated to a video montage showing how the #1 contender match came to be.

#1 Contendership Match

Irish whip and Austin down after a mini-collision after which he bails to the outside. Austin hesitantly enters the ring and the two lock up again but this time Austin with the side headlock. Taker fights out and sends Austin to the rope and they collide again but no one falls. More stalling as Austin does some push ups. They lock up a third time and Taker with the side headlock but Austin sends Taker to the ropes and later catches him with a right hand. Stone Cold then gives Taker the finger and we get MORE stalling with the famous strength test which Taker refuses to participate in. Another side headlock and we go through the motions again except this time Austin nails Taker with a hiptoss followed by an arm bar. Stone Cold working on Taker's tricep and turns it into a pin but it goes nowhere.

In the corner, Austin with several knife edge chops and then an Irish whip sending Taker to the other side. Austin comes running in but runs straight into a boot. Taker in control now with an arm bar and a couple arm wrings. Taker to the top with the old school top rope walk. Cover by Taker and Austin sneaks out at two. Irish whip, reversed and a Lou Thesz press by Stone Cold. Elbow drop and a cover and Taker kicks out at two.

On the outside now, Taker with a punches and chops across Austin's chest before throwing him back into the ring. Austin storms up and clotheslines Taker back outside and then rams his head into the announce table three times. Stone Cold throws Undertaker back in but before he can get himself Taker catches him with a boot and sends him back outside. Taker slamming Austin's head on the announce table now.

They're out in the crowd now briefly before heading back over, but Austin in control nonetheless. Taker tries to run away but Stone Cold catches him and sends him into the steel steps. Attempted piledriver by Stone Cold is turned into a back bodydrop. Taker takes Austin over to his motorcycle and slams his head into it. Out of nowhere come Scott Hall and X-Pac and Taker gives them a quick stare before slamming Austin into the steel steps.

Match finally heads back into the ring and Taker drops some elbows onto Austin's leg, as Stone Cold has apparently injured it. A modified figure four by Undertaker but before long, Austin heads to the ropes causing the ref to order a break. This allows Stone Cold to fight back with a flurry of punches but Taker knocks him down with a clothesline. Taker with a terrible chinlock that eventually works its way into a pin but that obviously doesn't do anything. Austin recovers and hits a Sleeper but Taker gets out of it and goes for another pin, which Austin manages out of at two. Another chinlock by Taker and the match has all but screeched to a halt. Austin fights back with punches to the stomach and face. He goes for the Stunner but Taker counters and clotheslines him down.

Fast forward and Taker, unsuccessful in a pin attempt, takes off the turnbuckle covering. He tries to whip Austin into the exposed buckle but Stone Cold reverses it and Taker goes in instead, back first. Double clothesline and they're both down but Flair just stands there waiting for them to get up. Taker up first but his punches are blocked by Austin who wails away on him in the corner. Finally, a ref bumps leads to Flair down and out with Austin hitting the Stunner. He covers Taker but Flair is still out. Stone Cold revives Ric but Taker catches him with a blow and signals for the chokeslam. He hits it, Flair comes to but Austin kicks out at two. Undertaker to the outside now as he retrieves a chair and brings it into the ring. As he's about to hit Austin, Flair takes it away and it gives Austin the chance to hit a low blow of his own. Austin with a spine buster and a cover, but Taker doesn't stay down and gets up before the three count. Austin attempts a Stunner but Taker blocks it and throws Austin into Ric Flair who again is knocked out. Taker grabs the chair and nails Austin over the head with it and covers. Flair gets up to count but Stone Cold kicks out at two.

Taker signals for his finisher but Austin counters with a clothesline and goes for a cover but Taker kicks out yet again at two. This match is pretty bad I must say. In the corner, Taker with some elbows but as he goes to get the chair again, Austin recovers and turns it around with several stomps that lay out Taker. Austin then goes for the chair but Flair stops him from using it. As Stone Cold turns around, Taker kicks him knocking the chair back in his face. Austin falls and Taker covers him. Flair, not realising that Austin has his foot on the ropes, counts the 1-2-3 for the win!

Winner: The Undertaker

After the match, Austin stuns Undertaker.

Backstage, Coach meets up with Flair and asks him if he knew that Austin had his feet on the ropes. Flair says he had no idea and Coach takes him to a TV and shows him a replay of the finish. Flair shakes his head and says "oh, shit" and then leaves.
