Black Scorpion

WCW Circa 1990

Sting has just become WCW champion by defeating the nature boy Ric Flair. Some Idiot (who turned out to be Ole Anderson) had a crazy idea that the Flair/Sting angle should be dropped, and in came the Black Scorpion gimmick. I heard they were trying to get Angel of Death, but he balked.

The WCW built up this feud for month's, as the shadowy Scorpion....

(Credit for this picture to wrestlecrap.com since I only had the one at the top.)

Would harrass Sting any chance he can, talking about nothing. Think of the show Seinfeld and picture it boring. That's how bad it was. We were even treated to a magic show of horror (including disappearing and turning people into ferocious beasts.). He also appeared at Halloween Havoc before Sting took on Sid Vicious (that's another column to be if you don't know the angle).

A few weeks after, the Scorpion faced Sting on WCW Saturday Night. Sting won, but it turned out to be just a messenger (I'm not sure if it was Al Perez for this one.) The same result happened a few weeks later. Finally the match was set at Starrcade 1990, Mask Vs. Title. The lights flickered and a pathetic Kane like entrance was used for him, including something that resembled a flying saucer. anyway, he wrestled like crap but, the things he did were noticeable, like cheating with the ropes, falling face first, and no selling the scorpion death lock. He even threw in a few knife-edge chops.

After 5 years, Sting won, but then the Horsemen came a calling and laid a smackdown on Sting. So, we established it's someone who's around 6'1" in the Horsemen, and since Arn Anderson is beating Sting, who else can it be? Z-man, Ricky Morton (I believe him) and the Steiner Bros. come for the save, and Sting finally reveals the Scorpion to be......tape ends. NOOOOOOO! Oh wait, I pressed Input 1. My bad. He reveals him to be........Ric Flair wooooo! As payback for this pathetic excuse for a gimmick, Flair was given the title a mere 2 weeks later. That didn't stop Ed Leslie though, to done the suit and mask in 1994....but that's another story.
