Akeem the African Dream

"An African white boy?!That don't make sense, Brutha!"

WWF Circa 1988-2000

It was the best of times, it REALLY was the worst of times, as WWF started slipping in interest. So, what do you do? Have Hulk Hogan pin Andre? Ultimate Warrior squash everyone? OF COURSE NOT, you repackage an over wrestle named George Grey, who was competing as One Man Gang, and turn him into a joke. Of course, we were greeted by a nice little vignette of Slick (Gang's manager) transforming him into Akeem. (I think wrestlecrap.com explained it enough).

Anyway, in his very first match, Akeem jobs. What kind of sorry shit is that? Of course he sucked, had no ring talent and basically danced all the time.........wait.......it's a rip-off of Dusty Rhodes! The same man who was booking NWA shows at the time. Well, I'm glad we didnt see that blowoff. Anyway, Akeem only had a few main event matches, usually jobbing to Savage & Hogan. But who can ever forget that funky dance? Well, I could, but that's not the point.

What a squash, no pun intended, on future Wrestlecraper, Hillbilly Jim. Akeem's glory faded shortly after. A notable Akeem moment was appearing on the Arsenio Hall show and Slick saying he would be the first African American Champion. Just to give you an idea of how bad an Akeem match could be, watch him slug it out with Andre. AAAAAAAAH!

Shortly after losing to the Big Boss Man in the Twin Towers Explode blowoff, Akeem quietly dissapeared, only to resurface 10 years later.........oh wait, that was One Man Gang, sorry.
