All of the Von Erichs touched my heart but one stood out ahead of them all . I never will forget Kerry Von Erich!! He was my childhood crush. I remember thinking when I first saw him that this was the most gorgeous man I ever saw and I was 8 at the time!! Both of my parents were wrestling fans.
In 1981 when my father died of a heart attack at the age of 66, Wrestling bonded me and my mom. We both loved the Von Erichs but her favorites were Fritz and Kevin.
Anyway around this time I had already fallen for Roddy Piper. I used to have fantasies about Roddy and Kerry fighting over me. No one was more prouder than me when Kerry beat that jerk Ric Flair for the title in Dave's honor.
When Kerry went to the WWF I was so happy. I had the best of both worlds Roddy and Kerry in the same federation!! When Kerry beat Hennig for the I-C belt no one cheered more than me!! I also will never forget my heartbreak when Kerry left the WWF.
My biggest heartbreak came Feb. 18,1993. That was the day I learned on CNN that my precious Kerry died. I was in total shock and disbelief and inconsolable. To this day I still can't believe it. On that day a part of me and my childhood died with Kerry.
To Kerry I want to say I love you and adore you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for all the memories and joy you gave me during your career. I would have given anything if I could have met you and told you how important you were and what an impact you made on my life. Like the song says Heaven Needed a Champion but we need you too. May you rest in peace Modern Day Warrior and have a wonderful reunion with your father and brothers.
