RIPLEY - Paced by co-Outstanding Wrestlers Trent Johnston and Mike Gresh, Ripley captured its annual Ripley Tournament on Saturday night.
Johnston won the 112-pound class over Bill Choate of Edgewood, Ohio, 12-0, and Gresh took the the 145-pound title with a 1:32 fall over Jordan Easter of Erie Strong Vincent as the Eagles took the crown with 1491/2 points.

Tonawanda placed second with 123 points followed by Erie Strong Vincent with 1091/2 points, Kenmore East with 1001/2 points and Maple Grove with 98 points.

Randolph was seventh with 90 points, Chautauqua Lake eighth with 82 points, Panama 10th with 751/2 points and Cassadaga Valley 13th with 22 points.

Abram Rowe and Logan Collins were also champions for Ripley. Rowe pinned Devin Miller of Iroquois in 44 seconds at 103 pounds and Collins blanked Cody Johnson of Randolph, 5-0, at 125 pounds.

Other local winners were Tanner Jones of Maple Grove with a 3:45 pin of Kenny Gariepy of Girard at 140 pounds and Nick Miller of Chautauqua Lake with a hard-fought 1-0 overtime win over Lou Kuhar of Edgewood at 135 pounds.

Sajen Hunt of Ripley reached the 119-pound final, but was dealt a 15-0 setback by Corey Frantz of Iroquois.

Matt Smith and Andrew Apperson of Maple Grove, Tim McElwain and Steven Sheldon of Randolph and Craig Howard of Chautauqua Lake recorded runnerup finishes.

Smith (215) dropped a 3-2 decision to John Fleger of Edgewood and Apperson (189) an 8-6 setback to Tyler Sunderville of Kenmore East.

McElwain (160) was edged by Danny McDonald of Kenmore East, 3-2, and Sheldon (275) was pinned in 51 seconds by Brian Malek of Iroquois.

Howard, meanwhile, absorbed a 12-0 setback at the hands of 96-pound Scott McGregor of Tonawanda.
