Kerry Nash's Hardcore Takeover had joined forces with Excellence and Stevie Richards, and the clout these three had meant that any of them could challenge for the SCW World Championship at virtually any time. Somewhat selfishly, and beginning to drive the wedge between them that would lead to Excellence's ultimate betrayal of Nash, Kerry decided that he would be the one to go for the belt first, and, with the backup he enjoyed at the time, his win over Steve Austin was virtually academic.
