Shane Douglas retired from active competition not long after his second win, citing numerous injuries. The title was put up for grabs in a massive Royal Rumble-style battle royal, giving every NOWF superstar a chance at the big prize. With Taz also having disappeared and Chris Benoit given a very unfortunate draw that left him in the ring for two hours, it left the door open for newcomer Greg "The Master" Mills to make a strong showing and win the title in an impressive display, last eliminating Stevie Richards.
