After a year in the NOWF, Riptide had never held a title of any sort. So when he was given a shot at Chris Benoit at Hardcore Slam, he vowed to make the most of it. He certainly did make the most of it, as he took the fight right to Benoit, seemingly having his number. Genesis even prevented Ron Apollo and Jerry Lawler from interfering against Riptide, and a spinning powerbomb off the ropes gave Riptide the win.
