Hello all. This is jaCko and I'm doing my first review for this site. I decided to do the best of Uncensored for several reasons, the primary reason being that it was already in my VCR. Yes means, yes I liked the segment, and no means the opposite. So without further adieu, here is your review...
Opening clip narrated by Mean Gene Okerland.
First match: Harlem Heat vs. Nasty Boys from Uncensored 1995. This is a Texas Tornado match. Brawling to start. I know Mike and Tom would enjoy this. Harlem Heat double team Brian Knobs and set up for a spike piledriver. Wow what a spike piledriver it is. Schiavonne sells it as a devastating manoeuvre and it would be except for the simple fact that Stevie Ray takes an inexcusably long delay in finishing the piledriver portion of the move and the camera angle clear as day shows Stevie taking the bump on his fat ass. Way to expose the business. Why, in a CLIPPED tape, would you show such a horribly blown spot? It looks brutal. But then again this is WCW I’m watching. Fast forward to
Sherri getting the pit stop. More clipping. To the concession stand fight. Sherri chokes out Sags. I don't want to get into the description of how Sherri looks and sounds riding Sags, so I will avoid the obvious. Heenan sells the danger of the concession stand, "There's lemonade on the floor, beverages, etc" God knows that has ended the career of many a wrestler. Sherri slips on the ground. The Nasties are announced as winners, but I wouldn't know since the brain surgeon camera operators WCW employed didn't even have the camera on the finish. Way to go. No
Sting and Booker T vs. the Road Warriors. Uncensored 1996. I love these chairshots in this match. I mean I'm not all for brutality and all, but at least try and give the guy a good blast. I've seen Stephanie McMahon take some better chairshots. Heenan keeps saying it's Uncensored, but I've seen nothing that would agree with his claim. Broomstick brawling. Yah baby! It's Uncensored! This match sure looked like a piece of crap. Thank God it’s clipped. The end comes when Stevie Ray does a run in and taps Hawk with a chair for the 1-2-3. No.
Team Piper Chris Benoit, Jeff Jarrett, Roddy Piper, Steve McMichael vs. Team nWo Randy Savage, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan vs. Team WCW Lex Luger, The Giant, The Steiner Brothers. Uncensored 1997.
Pinfalls, submission and over the top rope all count as eliminations in this match. We start as the announcers cream over the Giant's entrance. Hall and Benoit are already in the ring. Hall with the fall-away-slam on little Chris. The announcers are heavily pushing the Giant as a threat. Double clothesline by the Giant. The comedic headbutt opponents spot. Giant goes for a blind charge and goes over the ropes. Mike, you'd love Schiavonne's "Giant's out" cry. “The Giant’s out, the Giant’s out!” Fast forward. Luger press slams Jarrett in a match where you can eliminate your opponent by throwing him over the top rope. What a moron. Well Jarrett's out anyway. This is too hard to follow. Hogan enters with Rodman. Hogan poses for a picture before entering. Hey if I were wrestling in a high stakes match, I’d be sure to post for a picture rather than trying to win the match. Benoit laying it to naSh! I can't believe Piper vs. Hogan drew money in 1997. Piper eliminated by Rodman and Hogan. So now it’s the nWo and Luger. They all stop to pose. Luger with a second wind. Clotheslines for all. The crowd is going crazy. Savage is racked and submits. Nash is clotheslined over. Hall is atomic dropped and racked. This all happens within a minute. I don’t get why you would squash three main event guys in one minute, but I’m not a booking genius. So we are left with Hogan vs. Luger. Hogan wins obviously and that is that.
But
Right after this match Sting descends from the rafters and kicks some ass. The crowd pops like crazy. Why I don’t have an accurate description of this is because IT WASN’T ON THE TAPE. One of the reasons I wanted to watch this tape was to relive that moment, and the smart people that made this tape didn’t include that match. So this whole segment gets a big NO.
Scott Hall vs. Sting WCW title match. Uncensored 1998
Sting’s entrance is shown. Hall is with Dusty Rhodes. Hall grabs the belt, poses and gets zero reaction. Well if he or they thought he would draw in a main event push, there’s the proof that he won’t. They fight over the belt. Hall already with the comedic selling. I think Hall is a good worker, but he’s got to do something about the selling. I mean if it’s supposed to be a dramatic title match or something, and he’s selling like a bug eyed 80’s jobber, he’s gonna kill the match heat. Scott Hall gets a chokeslam on Sting. Hall's mocking of the Giant is gold. We jump forward to the obligatory and telegraphed crotch spot. Dusty Rhodes “runs in” and drops the elbow. It gets 2. Hall tries for the Outsiders’ Edge but it’s reversed into the Scorpion Death Drop for the clean 1, 2, 3. I liked the reversal at the end and the clean finish, so I give it a Yes.
Hogan vs. Savage
Yes the match I wanted to see in 1989 is now in a cage! The whole match is claw, scratch, punch, tap, choke, belt shots, repeat. I want someone to blade just so I can tell these two-tanned morons apart. Mike Tenay talks about never seeing someone being back dropped into a cage. Because that’s such an amazing spot. Heenan chirps about great camera work? Where? The part where Hogan is “slamming” Savage’s head into the cage? Where you can clearly see the Hulkster pushing the cage forward before Savage’s head hits the cage thereby exposing the business. That part? Savage does a cool elbow off the top and I give him props for that at his age. Here comes the Disciple as not yet named. Here comes sting from the rafters. A pose down, if you can call it occurs in the ring. What happened to the match? Who cares...it's only a PPV main event. Why would people want a finish? Savage turns on Sting and piledrives him. Savage leaves the cage so I guess he wins? No result is announced. No.
Kevin Nash vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Uncensored 1999
Rey runs right into a boot. What a dumbass. The crowd pops huge for all of Rey’s offensive moves at least. Rey is doing ALL the work here, but that shouldn't be news to any of you. Rey is selling like a champ as well. Nash does his sizing up spot...stops...picks up Rey and puts him on the turn buckle and does it again. For some reason this struck me as funny. Crowd pops huge for Rey's ballshot on naSh. 2 and 3/4 for that. Broncobuster. Nash takes the straps down...yeah let's see the gut Big Sexy. Jackknife from ten feet. 1, 2 ,3 Yes in my books
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Hak vs. Raven
Entertaining, yes, entertaining bit to start. Here comes Chastity with the barrage of garbage. This three-way affair has turned into a hardcore match? What? I never would have seen it coming with these three workers. Bam Bam Bigelow goes under the ring and gets at least three tables. "There must have been a buffet here before the wrestling match" Well at least someone tried to rationalize as to why there are so many tables under the ring. Raven tapes up Hak and goes to work on him with the chair in shades of rock and mankind from the rumble earlier that year. We jump to the finish where Hak pins raven. I’m kinda mixed on this match, however, looking at the competitors in this match, and my infinite hatred for ECW, I give this match a NO.
Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair. WCW title match First blood match in a cage
Of course the Flair promo before this match is not on the tape. I guess they wanted to save all the time for some old man brawling. Nothing of note during this match. Flair is juicing and by all means should lose the match, but his promo (not included on the tape remember) said for the match not to be stopped by just a “trickle of blood”. Wait, here’s one thing of note. You get to see one of Ric Flair’s ass cheeks. Hey, it’s not my thing, but I bet there are some hardcore Flair fans cough cough * Mike * cough cough that like this sort of thing. Finish comes after David Flair, Torrie Wilson and Arn Anderson run in, and Flair PINS Hogan by using the figure four. I know what you are thinking guys. This deserves a BIG NO.
Well, this by far is the worst tape I’ve ever seen with nothing here really worth watching. The two matches I’ve given Yeses to only get those ratings because they sucked less than anything else on the tape. I did like the clean finish in the WCW title match, and the heat in the Giant killer match, but those alone don’t make good matches. So, should you go out and rent this tape? What do you think?!?
