Interview with Mia Martinez

Main

Some people have that touch. The touch that turns everything to gold. Or Diamonds. And that's exactly what Mia Martinez does. Her fans call her "La Chica Diamante" (tranlates to "The Diamond Girl") and that is the perfect description for Mia in the ring. She not only shines as brightly as a diamond, but is as tough as one too. Did we mention that diamonds are a girls best friend? Read below for Jami's interview with Mia Martinez.

Real Name?
Laura

In-Ring Name?
Mia Martinez

Location?
Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. Now residing in Chicago, IL

What Federation are you currently in?
Any fed that invites me to their home

Have you been in any other federations?
Yes, several including Midwest Championship Wrestling, AWA, CIW, World Wrestling Zone, PGWA, Neo Pro, FSW, FXW, Pro Championship Wrestling (Chicago), MXPW, and several others (so sorry if i missed you!)

What has been your favorite appearance/match so far?
My matches with Lexie Fyfe are always a pleasure. I also like working the girls from the PGWA.

When did you start wrestling?
September 1999

What school did you train at (or who trained you)?
Steel Domain in Chicago. My trainers were Danny Dominion and Ace Steel

What was the hardest wrestling move you learned?
Not so much a move, just learning timing and to make everything flow and make sense.

What was your favorite?
Various suplexes (German, Northern Lights, Fishermans, Snap, etc..)

What's your schedule like?
At my own pace

Who are some of your favorite people to work with?
I like working with everyone. You learn something new with every opponent.

Is there any kind of match you wouldn't do (like a lingerie match, bikini match, jello match)?
I'm not big into T&A matches

What titles have you won or helped others win?
I have yet to hold a title

What is your most memorable match?
My debut match against Lexie Fyfe. You'll always remember your first time.

Who is the strongest woman you've seen in the Indy's (mic skills plus in ring skills)?
ODB. She's a young talent with so much to give. Watch out for her

Who is the strongest man you've seen in the Indy's (mic skill plus in ring skills)?
There's a few....XXXPlicit Content, Colt Cabana, Reckless Youth, CM Punk, Danny Dominion, Eric Priest, Ace Steel

What's it like working in the Indy's?
An experience I will always remember. Its fun and I've met some of the nicest people on the road.

The following questions are asking for your opinion on the WWE product, since that is what most people get to see.

Who are you favorite WWE Male wrestlers?
Rey Misterio Jr, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Eddy Guererro,

Who are you favorite WWE Female Wrestlers?
Molly Holly, Jacqueline, Ivory, Jazz, Victoria

What is your favorite WWE storyline?
Feuds between Bret and Owen Hart

What is your least favorite WWE storyline?
Anything that is currently on RAW

With the current storylines focusing on HLA and matches like lingerie pillow fights, how do you think the women wrestlers could move past that and put the focus back on their in-ring skills?
I dont think the girls actually have a say in the storylines, which really sucks. I would say they just need to continue to work hard and improve on their in ring skills. Make the matches memorable.

Do you think this focus on T&A will hinder other women's, like yourself, chances to be taken seriously?
I think its up to the women of the indy scene to show fans that girls are more than eye candy. I think womens wrestling should be more like a Japanese style. WWE will always use women for the T&A factor, but its always good to see something new.

If you had a chance to wrestle any WWE star, who would be your top choice (you can pick 2 males and 2 females)?
Molly Holly and Ivory; Eddy Guererro and Chris Benoit

What do you think of the current WWE women's matches?
They should be longer.

Do you think women should get more belts (Like their own tag team belts)?
There really arent any women tag teams, but it would definetly be interesting to see

Do you think the WWE should take a page from the Indy's and let the women wrestle the men more?
No, how believable is it to see a 125lbs beat on a 200lb man? Wouldn't the male wrestler lose credibility if he was on TV a few months ago having an equal match against someone his own size? I think women should just wrestle women unless they are of equal size to her male opponent. Ex. Chyna vs Eddy

What do you think of the women who are now in the WWE?
All of them have something to contribute in their own way.

Who is the strongest WWE female wrestler (Mic skills and in ring skills combined)
Ivory

Who is the strongest WWE male wrestler (mic skills and in ring skills combined)?
Kurt Angle

Do you think any of today's wrestlers (indy or WWE) are going to be legends in years to come?
Definetly Benoit, Guererro, Malenko, Flair, The Rock, Hogan in the WWE. In the indies and Japan, Christopher Daniels, Ayako Hamada, Chigusa Nagayo, Hayabusa, Cima

If you could change one thing about the WWE product, what would it be and why?
The storylines of Raw 'cause they really suck

Do you have any advice for others trying to break into the business?
Be patient if things don't work out right away. Put your heart into everything you do and dont get discouraged for all the small things. If your goal is to make a lot of money, you're doing this for the wrong reasons. Love this business and respect it.

Do you have anything you'd like to say to anyone who is new to the Indy scene and your fans?
Support your local indy feds. Keep them alive and strong. The greatest matches may be in your hometown instead of on TV. To my fans, thanks for keeping my dream alive. God Bless!

I'd like to thank Mia for taking the time out to do this interview! Everyone needs to watch out, because if I had my way, La Chica Diamante would be the next woman called up to the WWE.
