Chapter 6
Not knowing where she was heading, Leah just kept on walking. She looked at her watch in the dim moonlight. 12:58. “Shit” Leah swore under her breath. She had been walking since about 10:00 that morning. She hadn’t stopped to eat she just grabbed a coke from the local garage.
As the moonlight shone on her bare legs she looked around to see if she actually recognized where she was. She didn’t. As the wind began to blow Leah rubbed her arms as she began to shiver.
“Where the hell is she?” Molly asked as she sat on the sofa of Leah’s house.
“I don’t know Mol. But Matt will find her.” Jeff said as he hugged Molly a she cried.
Suddenly they heard a car pull up into the drive. They both jumped to their feet and stood there as Matt walked in, alone.
“I’m sorry Mol. I can’t find her.”
“But she’s got to be somewhere.” Molly sobbed as she buried herself in Matt’s arms. Matt looked up and over at Jeff.
Jeff looked away from his brother and down at the floor realising it was his fault she wasn’t here. He slumped down on the sofa and buried his head into his hands. “This is my fault isn’t it?” he said not looking up from the floor.
“No Jeff. I should never have told you her secret. I don’t know why I did I just assumed you wouldn’t ever mention it. If it’s anyone’s fault it’s mine. I shouldn’t have told you, I shouldn’t have let you meet her.” Molly said as she began to sob into Matt’s chest.
“Matt.” Jeff said standing up. “Give me your keys.” He demanded holding out his hand.
“Why?” Matt asked as he placed them in his hand.
“I have to go look for her.”
“You don’t have to Jeff. I’ll go back in a minute.” Matt said as he wiped the tears from Molly’s face.
“I do. It’s my fault. I’ll be back WHEN I find her.”
Leah aimlessly kicked a coke can along the side of the road as she headed over and down a hill. Which hill she had no idea. Her legs where cold as the cold night air brushed against her bare skin. She saw a McDonalds up a head and she decided she had better eat.
The warm air hitting her face as she opened the door. She ordered a big Mac, large fries and a large coke. She looked at the sign. She was miles from home. Roughly about fourteen. She shivered at the thought of having to walk back home knowing she didn’t have enough cash for a cab. She ate her meal as if she hadn’t eaten in weeks.
“Where are you?” Jeff asked no one as he drove along the streets of Park City looking for Leah. He tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel in time with the lovey dovey music that was playing in the background. He scanned the road and thought it was hopeless. He grabbed his mobile and rang Matt.
“It’s me.”
“Have you found her?”
“No.”
“Where are you?”
“The end of Main Street.”
“Man, she ain’t gunna be around there. Try out of town. Ask some people. Do something. Me and Molly are taking her car out to look for her as well so we’ll ring you if we find her.”
“Ok. I’ll speak to you later.”
“Yeh, bye.”
“Bye” Jeff said as he hung up and slung the phone on the passenger seat. He put his foot down and headed down the roads he had already searched. ‘Now for the next town’ he thought to himself. He then thought of Leah. ‘She must be freezing. Cold. Hungry. Maybe scared.’ But some how he doubted that last one.
