Chapter 12

As Leah opened her eyes she squinted into the blinding sunlight. She went to lift her hand to shield her eyes but she couldn't she looked down at her hand to see Jeff's fingers still tangled in hers. She thought how safe she felt. She let herself relax more against Jeff before she felt him moving.

"Morning." he said as she looked up at him.

"Morning."

"Sleep well?"

"Yeh I did thanks. You?"

"Not really. I kept waking up to see if you were still here."

"That's sweet." Leah said as freed one hand and traced the tattoo on his arm with her finger tip. "Thank you Jeff."

"What for?"

"Listening to me last night. For holding me and making me feel safe, like no one could get to me."

"Your welcome. I just did what I thought was right."

"I mean how I acted to you before Jeff, I surprised you even let me in."

"Just because we got of to a bad start doesn't mean that I hate you, well I did kinda, but now I don't, something's changed, the way I feel about you isn't the same any more Leah. I don't know what happened but I far from hate you."

"Good because how can I hate you any more? You've been so good to me Jeff." she said as she got up of the sun lounge and walked into the room. "JEFF!" she shouted as she froze. Jeff came running in and froze at her side.

"Stay there." he said as he walked over to the door, where the carpet was stained in red dye and a letter lay to the side, half under the door. Jeff knelt down and looked at it before picking up the note and walking back to Leah who was already crying. "You wanna read it?"

"No. You."

"Ok." Jeff answered as he put an arm around her shoulders reassuring her it would be ok. He read it out. "This will be yours Leah, and his if he gets in my way. You are mine, never forget that." Jeff froze as Leah cried into his chest. He looked at the red stain. Blood. He wanted Leah's blood. He wanted her dead.

“Let me go.” She told him after several minutes.

“Why?” he asked puzzled as he loosened his grip on her.

“Because me being here is putting you in danger Jeff, I can’t do that. I’m sorry Jeff; I gotta get out of here.” Leah said as she wiped her eyes and took the letter and stuffed into her pocket.

“No. I don’t want you to go Leah, you have to stay here, he can get to you if you are on your own.”

“But that’s better than him getting to both of us Jeff.”

“Leah, don’t you get it, I WANT to help you. Why won’t you let me?”

“Because I need to do this by myself, without putting you in danger.”

“I don’t care if he’s after me, all I care about is that her doesn’t get to you.”

“Jeff. I have to get out of here. I have to do this on my own.”

“You don’t. I will always be here for you to talk to.”

“Jeff, I’m going.”

“NO!!!” Jeff yelled as he grabbed her arm. “You can’t go!! Not now, not now that I know.”

“Just for get everything I said Jeff. Forget about me. Just remember me as the bitch that hates you.” She said as she freed her arm and opened the door, she jumped over the pool of red dye and ran out the door.
