Chapter 13:

“Your Faithy?” I asked slightly laughing as I followed behind down the stairs and to the pool.  “Yeah my Faithy, she’s mine, ain’t she?”  Jeff asked sarcastically.  “Why ask me?  Am I in her head?” I said running a hand through my hair.  As we walked out to poolside, Faith yelled excitedly from inside the pool.  “Jeffy!” She exclaimed jumping out of the pool, running to him.  Jeff put his hands up for Faith to stop and said, “No, No, No, you’re…” He didn’t get to finish what he was about to say due to Faith rapping her arms and legs around him, giving him a quick hug and kiss.  “Soaked,” Jeff groaned while smiling behind her back.

“Come in the pool with me Jeffy, it’s no fun without you.  Mattie’s so boring,” Faith teased emphasizing on the word “boring” and getting off of Jeff, dragging him to the pool.  In one swift action, Jeff flung Faith over his shoulder and ran to the edge of the pool.  He stopped, slapped her butt and threw her into the pool.  The last thing that was heard from Faith’s mouth was a loud whine.  “Jeff!” And then the splash came.  Jeff stood laughing and jumped in after her.

I crossed my arms, walked closer to the pool and looked on.  As Faith emerged, I was just about to ask her where Matt was when Jeff pushed her under once again.  I stood their, content with watching Jeff and Faith horse around.  I felt a hand slide around my waist and lips touch the side of my neck.  I smiled and leaned my head back to rest on Matt’s and sighed.  “Hey,” I greeted opening my eyes and turning my head so I could see his smiling face.  “Where were you?” He asked moving one hand from my waist to rub my cheek.  “Getting ready, Duh silly,” I answered, moving my hand up to his and entangled my fingers with his.  “Mmhmm,” he said giving my lips a quick peck.

“I see they fit,” I said referring to the bathing suit he was wearing.  “Actually they do.  Thank you,” he answered turning my body to face his.  “You look good in them,” I commented looking closer at him.  “I mean real good,” I complimented running my fingers over his chest.  “Thank you,” he said looking me over, slowly.  “Sexy,” he growled with a smile.  I couldn’t help but giggle at the way he said that.  “You like that?” Matt asked seductively.  “Oh yeah,” I answered rubbing my thumbs over his palms, turning him around and backing him to the edge of the pool.  He gave me an evil grin and was about swooped his head down and slightly nuzzled my neck.  “I think you need to chill babyface,” I commented putting both my hands on his chest as I looked past him to see if Faith and Jeff weren’t in the way.  ‘Perfect’ I thought.

“And how you going to do that shortcake?” He questioned giving me those famous puppy eyes while entangling his fingers with mine.  ‘Crap’ I thought, ‘Sacrifices suck.’  “This,” I said quickly, pushing him into the pool.  He let go of my hands and gasped.  He had a look of bewilderment as he flew through the air to the water.

When Matt finally surfaced, he let out a loud breath.  “Holy shit, that’s cold!” He exclaimed shooting Jeff, Faith and I a glare as we started laughing.  “Matt, man, you’ll get used to it,” Jeff explained to a pissy Matt.  “Paybacks a bitch you know,” Faith commented giggling a little, putting her arms around Jeff’s waist and resting her head on his back.

“Yeah I’d run if I were you,” Jeff warned as Matt climber out of the cold water.  “You should know Jeff,” I said giggling.  I quickly shut up as I saw the look I was getting from Matt.  He never took his eyes off of me as he advanced towards me.  “Oh crap,” I gasped, putting one hand to my mouth, backing up slowly.  “Wait, please, Matt, I didn’t mean it.  Come on, I’ll do anything, just don’t do what I think you’re going to do,” I begged moving my hand from my mouth and in front of me into a stopping motion.  An evil smirk suddenly appeared across his lips and he kept slowly coming towards me.  “Mattie, babyface, please,” I continued to beg, looking behind me so I didn’t trip.  “I told you, run!” Jeff yelled to me from his place in the pool.  “She did say anything Matt,” Faith pointed out giggling.  “I know,” Matt answered Faith, still not looking away from me, getting a gleam in his beautiful eyes.

I jumped just a bit and bumped into the sliding glass door just as Matt was erasing the space between the two of our bodies.  He stared right at me as if he were stalking his prey.  “Babyface, please?” I asked in a small voice putting both hands at my sides.  “Please what?” he asked simply, smiling, stopping only a few inches away.  “Don’t…” I started but couldn’t finish as Matt captured my lips with his own.  I was totally in shock and when I started to respond and the kiss was getting good, he pulled back.  “Don’t do that?” He asked as we heard Jeff start laughing and Faith start to complain.  “I thought paybacks were suppose to be a bitch Jeffy?” She moved beside Jeff, leaning against the edge of the pool.  “He’s not done,” Jeff told her as it took a few moments to register in my head.  Just as he had said that, Matt brought my attention back to him.  “Or don’t do this?” He asked so quickly that I didn’t have time to react to his swift movements.

Matt picked me up and threw me over his shoulder and took his time walking to the side of the pool, just like Jeff had done to Faith. He suddenly stopped and yelled to Jeff.  “Is it safe?” He asked patting my butt, which made me squirm even more.  “Stop squirming shortcake, you ain’t coming down…Yet,” he told me evilly.  “Not funny Mattie, put me down now!” I yelled trying to get free.  “Ouch!”  I gasped as I felt my butt start to sting.  “Babyface, that hurt,” I pouted as I stopped squirming.  “It got you to stop moving now didn’t it?  You’re not getting down so don’t even start complaining,” Matt said rubbing the cheek he had slapped.  “I know I’m not getting down Mattie, you have this fucking death grip on me Damn it!” I yelled.  I quickly shut up remembering the slap, and tried to keep my cool.

“Jeff?!?” Matt screamed walking even closer to the pool.  “Oh, oops, it’s all good Matt.  Go ahead,” Jeff answered going back to the massage he was giving Faith.  “I’m gonna fucking…” was all I got out before I was flung into the pool and hit the freezing water.  “She’s so gonna be pissed,” Faith commented.  I finally made it to the surface, gasping for air, swimming to the edge of the pool so I could hold myself up.  A fairly large hand came into view.  I looked up slowly, giving Matt the “evil” eye.  He gave me one of his sweet smiles, which honestly made me melt.  But not enough to give in.  I shrugged off the arm that was trying to hook onto my own as I tried lifting myself up.  I learned the hard way that having a bad arm and one good arm didn’t work very well together if trying to lift oneself up.  I failed miserably and fell back into the pool.  As I came back up I grunted but gratefully took the hand reaching down to help me up.  One I was back on solid ground, I grumbled, “Thanks,” as I walked shrugged passed a smirking Matt.

“I could’ve done it,” I snapped walking a little faster to the lounge chair where the towels were.  Truthfully I was a little embarrassed that I needed help and couldn’t do it on my own.  “It didn’t look that way to me,” Matt said turning around.  “Come on shortcake, don’t be like that,” Matt pleaded.  I could feel his eyes burning a hole through my back as I walked away from him and grabbed a towel.  I felt horrible not looking at Matt and saying it was fine and that I still really love being with him.  As I was toweling my hair I figured I was just gonna get back into the pool anyway.  “Why you being like this green eyes?” Matt asked coming closer to me.  I could feel him getting closer, he was coming slow, but he was definitely coming close.

‘Why does he have to call me names?  Does he know what it does to me when he says those certain words?’ I thought as I heard Jeff say, “Oh, silent treatment, so not good Bro.”  I heard Matt grunt and stop before he got closer to me.  “Matt, listen, she is like that and she will always be like that the rest of her life.  My advise is, don’t try and change her, she won’t change for anyone but herself, she has to learn to lighten up.  I thought that you would be able to do something about the way she acts because I thought you actually meant something to her, but maybe I thought wrong.  Nothing you do will work, so don’t waist your time,” Faith explained to Matt, getting a ‘here, here’ from Jeff’s big mouth.  I heard Matt sigh as I sniffled softly.  ‘How could she say that?  Of course he means something to me!  I can’t believe she said that to him.  He’ll never like me again.  But, how does Faith know all of this?  I mean, I would change for Matt.  I’d do anything to make him happy!  Why would she put those things in his head?  He’ll never forgive me.  Now what do you do Laura?  You really fucked up this time!  God, you finally found a man that likes you for who you are and you actually adore!  When in the world will you find someone like that again?  Oh quit whining and do something about it!’  I thought swallowing back the tears and sniffling one more time.  Growling, I turned around and threw the towel on the chair beside me and looked at me in the eyes.  ‘Now what smart ass?’ I asked myself as I opened my mouth to speak…

I stood there, mouth open thinking of what to say.  I took in a deep breath and started.  “Can’t you people just shush?” I asked, totally disappointed at my impulse on what to say.  I walked over to Matt and stood beside him as I spoke.  I took a deep breath and ran my hand through my hair, which was something I did when I was nervous, or in distress.  “Since when can y’all read my mind?” I continued as I realized what Faith was gonna say.  “Faith, don’t even try and answer that one,” I told her as I saw her finger go up and her mouth start to open.  She gave me a defeated look and said, “I was not gonna do anything of the sort.”  She lifted her head up in a pout and leaned back against her precious Jeffy.  I cleared my throat and began once again.  “As I was saying, I’m perfectly fine, I was just trying to catch my breath.  I was not giving Matt the silent treatment,” I paused and reached over and put my hand on Matt’s back.  “I deserved it and I’m far from mad.  “In regards to what Faith had said earlier about me, that’s personal.  I’m not getting into that.  I’ll have a talk with you later.  But, one thing I must say,” I paused again and walked in front of Matt, looking him straight in the eyes, ”Matt does mean something to mean.  A whole lot as a matter of fact,” I stated letting a long breath out that I was holding and running a hand through my hair again.  “And Jeff, for your information, there will be no silent treatment today,” I finished happy with my response.  I reached up gave Matt a kiss on the cheek and dove back into the pool with Matt trailing behind me.
