Chapter
11:
“So,
what do you do that involves so much traveling?”
I asked, turning back to him, waiting for an answer.
He looked to Jeff and I got really suspicious.
“What’s so hush, hush about your job? Are you with the FBI or
something?” I half joked, hoping he wasn’t.
Matt gave me a weird look and shook his head no.
“No way,” he said, confirming his answer.
“Jeff and I wrestle. Nothing
too hush, hush about it, but I try to keep it on the lowdown,” he explained.
“Yeah
right, low-down my ass. I’m sure
you have billions of fans that know everything about you, especially girls,” I
chuckled then quickly shut-up as I realized that what I was saying was probably
true. I cleared my throat and
continued. “So, you’re a
wrestler? I guess I can see that.
What federation are you in?” He
looked at me a little surprised. “WWF,”
he replied getting a slight smile across his lips.
“Really? That’s cool. A really long time ago, I used to watch it all the time with
my Grandfather. Every time it was
on, we watched it, haven’t missed one, until he passed away. But, that’s when I had the biggest crush on Bret Hart.
I can’t believe I still remember this.
But, this event was one of the best I’ve seen.
It was at WrestleMania IV. Bret
and Neidhart were in a 20-man battle royal. Bret and Bad News Brown were the
last two men in the ring, and together they had eliminated all the competition.
Brown had double crossed Bret, and eliminated him,” I told them with a
smile on my face. “I’m sure you
two knew that, I’ll stop my rambling,” I said as my smile faded.
Everyone’s attention was taken away from me and Brandy started to bark.
“Food’s
here” I stated. “Huh?” Jeff
asked just as the doorbell rang. I
ran upstairs, got my wallet, jogged back downstairs, just in time to see Matt
closing the door with his foot, food in hand.
“You little punk, you beat me to it,” I said referring to him paying
the delivery guy before I had a chance to.
“My treat,” he said while walking to the kitchen with me trailing
behind. As we walked in, Faith and
Jeff were in the process of setting the table.
Matt put the box on the counter, got the iced tea in the fridge, and
started searching for something. “Damn
Laura, where are the cups?” He
asked looking through every cabinet. I
let out a chuckle, walked to the pantry, grabbed the cups and placed them on the
table. “In the pantry,” I told
him in a smart-ass tone. “Cute,”
he replied bringing the box down from the counter.
We all grabbed our sandwiches and pretty much ate in silence.
After we finished eating, we cleaned up and headed to the family room so
we could talk. Jeff plopped down on
the long leather couch and pulled Faith onto his lap. Matt went and sat on the love seat, closest to the china
closet. I, on the other hand, sat
on the recliner, closest to the TV.
“So,
Jeff, Matt tells me you guys wrestle. What
kind of wrestling do you do?” I asked suspiciously. “Say what?” he asked totally confused. “Well, you said you were a risk taker. What type of wrestler are you?”
I asked. “Oh, I didn’t
hear you. I’m a highflier.
You know, I jump around the ring with no regrets or setbacks.
I take it to the extreme, right Matt?” Jeff explained.
“She’s not wrestling illiterate, Jeff.
She used to watch about, umm…” Matt stumbled. “A long time ago,” he tried to recover. “About 15 years ago,” I told them. “See a long time ago,” Matt added as I laughed.
“So, you are a risk taker. I
never doubted you, I mean look at what you did to your hair,” I joked.
“Ha, ha Laura, Stop making fun of Jeffy,” Faith said while cradling
him in her arms as he pretended to cry. “I’m
sure Rainbow gets it all the time,” I retorted giggling some more while
getting up and walking leisurely towards Matt.
I sat down next to him and he put his arm around me as I relaxed,
crossing my legs. “What do you
girl’s do?” Matt asked, looking from Faith to me.
“Well, I used to write, but am currently unemployed since yesterday.
And before you ask, I used to write scripts,” I answered looking at
Faith, urging her to say something. “I
design clothing and have my own company. It’s
really new so you wouldn’t be familiar with my work,” Faith said. “I used to work at a club, but that didn’t work out too
well. I like going to clubs and
having fun, not working at them,” she finished resting her head on Jeff’s
chest as he put his arm around her. “Which
reminds me, I need to finish a design by Monday,” Faith Said.
“Yeah, Jeff over there can
be your model,” I joked as Matt chuckled a bit, squeezing my shoulder gently.
“I could see Rainbow doing that,” he said laughing a little harder.
“Shut up Mattie!” Jeff yelled, emphasizing on “Mattie.”
I let out a light laugh and lightly tapped Matt’s stomach.
“Stop it,” I said with a smile.
“You know it’s true shortcake,” He said using my newfound nickname.
“Shortcake?” Faith
squeaked and started laughing harder. “Don’t
start with me chica, I don’t wanna get into your nicknames, now do I?”
She quickly shut up and wiped the smirk off her face.
“No, you don’t,” she said through clenched teeth.
“Aww, I’m sure Jeffy-pooh wants to know,” I said smiling evilly. “I do, I do,” Jeff quickly said like a child.
Faith elbowed him and gave him the “devil” eye.
“Oops, I meant that I do want you to keep your mouth closed and not
embarrass Faith,” Jeff retorted. Faith
had a smug look and gave Jeff a quick kiss as she started to play with his
purple and red hair. I reached my
hand up and entangled my fingers with Matt’s.
“What do y’all wanna do
today?” I asked letting go of Matt’s hand and patting his leg.
“Yeah Jeffy, what do you wanna do today?” Faith asked pulling her
hand away from his hair and rubbed his cheek.
She then placed her hand on his thigh and awaited his answer.
“Did you really need to ask me that?” Jeff asked as he placed his
hand on hers. “You’re right,
Laura, what do you wanna do?” Faith quickly asked giggling like a maniac.
“Would I have asked Matt
if I knew?” I said getting closer to Matt.
“I say we do something relaxing. I
saw you have a pool, why don’t we go lounge around there for awhile?” Matt
suggested. I pulled my hand quickly
out of his grasp and faked a sneeze. “Great
Idea Mattie, I could use a day at the pool,” Jeff said smiling.
“What about you Faith?” Jeff asked looking down at her.
“Perfect!” she exclaimed
happily. ‘She’s so
gonna…Wait! They don’t have
bathing suits.’ I started to
smile. “We don’t have suits
though Jeff,” Matt stated. ‘Thank
you lord!’
“Laura has some in the
guest room,” Faith said. ‘Okay,
now she is so gonna get hurt when they leave.’
“Faith,” I said through clenched teeth, “they won’t fit,” I
finished giving her a look from hell. “You
never know shortcake, they might,” Matt said sweetly. “Fine, let me get them for you,” I said getting up,
trying to put on a smile. “Y’all
can change in the guestrooms or bathroom, your choice.
Faith, you come in my room after you’re done changing.
I need some, uhh, advice,” I stated leaving the room with the three
following me. I stopped in a
guestroom and pulled out two suits, a black one and a purple one.
Jeff ran in, grabbed the purple one, and went into the other guestroom
across the hall. “Guess I get
black,” Matt said as he picked them up. “You
look good in black Mattie,” I commented giving him a quick kiss and went into
the hall where Faith was standing. I
closed the door and paused. “Meet
us at the pool guys,” I yelled loud enough for them to hear.
“Okay,” came the muffled replies.
Faith
and I started walking towards the end of the hall where our bedrooms are
located. “Put your bathing suit
on and come into my room before you go down to the pool please,” I told her in
my normal tone. “Yes Birdi,”
she replied leaving my side and going to her room.
