Chapter 8

She pulled up behind his car, her excitement getting
the best of her. The day could not go by fast enough
for her. He was all she thought about in every class.
The touch of his hair on her skin that felt like
feather like fingertips. The feel of his warm soft
lips on hers. She shivered with delight as she grabbed
the bag off the floor and headed down to the water.
She quietly pushed back the branches to see him
sitting on the blanket. He took her breath away.

He wore a pair of faded blue jeans and a tight white
tank top. His skin was a bronze color from the sun. A
bandana held his hair back and a ponytail holder kept
it in place. His boots were cast off to the side of
the blanket with his socks hanging over them. His eyes
were focused on the water.

"Hi there."  She spoke softly as not to scare him.

Jeff turned around, climbing off the blanket, "Hi." He
wrapped her up in his strong arms holding onto her
tightly, "God I missed you."

She buried her head into his neck, kissing it softly.
His cologne was intoxicating and made her dizzy. "I
missed you too."

He looked into her eyes caressing her cheeks with his
hands leaning in, kissing her delicately on the lips.

She pressed her lips together after, clutching his
shirt as her knees threatened to buckle. Her stomach
fluttered as his breath was warm on her face, "Are you
hungry?"

"Yes a little." He took her by the hand leading her to
the blanket, pulling her down beside him, "You look
beautiful."

"Thanks. I think you're beautiful too." She winked at
him as she handed him a Styrofoam container; "I wasn't
sure what you wanted so I just grabbed some burgers
and fries again. Is that ok?"

"Perfect. How did you know?" he giggled as she poked
him in the chest, "Did you get ketchup?"

"Yes smart boy." She handed him the packets, "How was
work?"

He nodded chewing his food, holding up his finger for
her to wait.

She smiled  at how polite his was and leaned in to
kiss his cheek, "Sorry."

"Thanks. Work was fine. I couldn't get through it fast
enough though. My boss kept asking me what the hurry
was."

"What did you tell him?"

"That I had a beautiful girl waiting for me to return
and that we had better drag our asses so I didn't keep
her waiting long." He smiled as she blushed slightly.

"Liar."

"Am not. You call him. Henry Sanders. He's in the
phone book. How was the dark room?"

"Fine. I had to drag my ass through it. My heart was
not into developing scenery pictures. It was pure
torture." She pushed his legs open crawling in between
them. She sat sideways, draping her legs over his
knee.

He accepted the fry that she fed to him, "Aren't you
going to eat?"

"I am."

They ate in silence for a few minutes. Once he
finished his burger, he wiped off his hands and began
caressing her back.

"You're awfully quiet. What's wrong?"

She leaned into his chest, staring at the blanket, "We
need to talk."

His gut tightened as he sensed the worst thing of all
coming, "What about?" he managed to ask.

"Do you remember that jerk Bobby, that came up to us
at the diner? He went home and called my dad. He told
him I was hanging out with rift raft."

"A rift raft?" he laughed, "What the hell is that?"

She sat on her knees, face to face with him, "Some
dumb name. Anyway, my dad is having a coronary about
it. We've been arguing none stop about it. He waited
up for me Sunday to inform me that you were not good
enough for me."

"Oh." He replied in a whisper.

She grabbed his face, "No not oh. My father doesn't
know you and he has no right to say that. He's angry
because I'm not falling all over his hand picked
boyfriend."

"Bobby?"

"Exactly."

"Is this all because of that money crap you were
trying to explain to me?" he scooted closer to her.

"Yeah but just because my dad is hung up on that
doesn't mean I am. My father is not going to tell me
who I can and can't date or who's good enough for me
and who's not. It is not happening." She reached
behind her taking off her shoes, tossing them over by
his boots.

"But he's your dad.'

She covered his mouth, "But I'm my granddaddy's
cupcake. He told me to go for what I want and stick to
it. I want you." She kissed his nose.

"Granddaddy's cupcake huh?" he rubbed his hands up her
thighs, slowly inching the skirt up.

She cocked an eyebrow at him, "Yes. I'm his one and
only grandbaby and I'm his whole world. He's very cool
and he can't wait to meet you. He's coming down next
week."

"Really? He wants to meet me? And this is your fathers
dad right?"

"Yeah. How's that for irony?" she ran her hands up his
muscular arms, kissing his bicep then his shoulder,
"He wants to have dinner with us. You'll like grams
too."

He swallowed hard as she ran her tongue up his neck to
suck on his earlobe, "That'll be nice."

"I'm sorry about that. I got carried away. When do you
wrestle again?" she pulled suddenly, surprised when he
groaned, "Something wrong?"

He shook his head, "No. We wrestle on Friday night.
Some bar is hosting it this week. Would you like to go
with me?"

She turned herself around, leaning against his chest,
looking up into his face, "I'd love to. Will you pick
me up or give me directions?"

"I can pick you up." He lifted her sweater up running
his fingertips along her midriff; "It's at seven and
doesn't end until nine. It's about two hours away so
you'll be home really late."

She giggled as the Goosebumps raised on her stomach,
"That kind of tickles." She rested her head against
his neck as she watched his hand slide across her
skin, heating up her body inside and between her legs.
He slowly moved his hand down to her inner thigh but
then stopped.

"I'm sorry. I was getting carried away." He kissed the
top of her head.

"Jeff it's ok to touch me. I know you're not using me
or taking advantage of me." She smiled. He had the
manners of a saint. He hadn't even sworn, always said
please and thank you. If only her father would take
the time to know him, he'd know what a good guy he
was. Unlike that octopus Bobby.

"I'm glad you know that but I still want to wait. Our
relationship is so new that I don't want anything to
get in our way. I want to get to know each other
better before we get intimate ok?" he held her closer
to him, just loving the fact that he could hold her.

"God where did you come from? No one has ever said
anything like that to me. Thank you for making me
matter. If you held me like this forever, I'd be the
happiest girl in Cameron."

"I'll hold you as long as possible but once the kinks
set in we'll have to break."

"Smart ass."

"I am I know."

Kendall reluctantly pulled away, watching him in the
mirror. She was secretly glad that nothing happened
tonight even though her body screamed at her. The
longer he wanted to wait, told her that he was in it
for her and not sex. He wanted more than just a
physical relationship. She wanted that too.

"No one is going to stand in our way Jeff. I promise
you that."
