Chapter 14
Kendall eagerly bound down the stairs after quickly
dressing this morning. Granddaddy was waiting at the
breakfast table, reading the morning paper. She was so
excited about spending the day with him that she had
trouble sleeping.
"Good Morning!" she kissed her and her grandfather
then surprised herself and kissed her father.
"Are you ready?" her grandfather folded up the paper
and tossed his napkin onto his plate then grabbed his
grandbabys' hand.
"I am." She slipped her backpack on her.
"Where are you two off to?" Caroline inquired.
"I am taking my granddaughter out for the day. We need
some time together."
"Ah well have fun." She waved to them.
"What about your classes?" her father always knew how
to kill excitement.
Michael glared at his son, "They'll be there
tomorrow."
"Speaking of tomorrow. I planned a dinner party with
some potential clients."
"Cupcake and I have plans tomorrow night."
Kendall giggled into his arm as he yanked her out of
the house, "Granddaddy you're bad."
"To the bone cupcake."
She rolled her eyes, pulling away from the house,
"You're so hip."

The noon whistle blew, indicating lunch time. Jeff was
famished. He grabbed his cooler, making his way across
the lawn to sit under a shade tree, out of the direct
hot sun. He had tried all morning to figure out a way
to see Kendall after she left last night. He had
realized that they hadn't made any plans to see each
other again. A day without seeing her face or touching
her was unimaginable.
"There's the hardworking young man."
Jeff choked on his soda when he saw Kendall and gramps
coming up the walk holding a box, "Hey you two."
She looked fantastic in a pair of denim cutoffs and a
red tank top. She knelt down beside him, kissing his
cheek then wiping the sweat from her nose, "Uck. Hi
there."
"So what you brings two down this way?"
"Well," Michael sat down, "Oh I'm too old to sit down
on the grass."
Kendall laughed helping him straighten up.
"Thanks cupcake. Like I was saying, Kendall and I,
well I decided Kendall should play hooky and spend the
day with me. I then figured we'd find you at lunchtime
and bring you some good food. What's in your cooler
there kid?" he peeked inside, "Two cold sandwiches,
chips, an apple, cookies, my lord where do you put
it?"
Jeff smiled, "I work out. Have to for wrestling plus I
get a great workout from this job."
Kendall eyed his sweaty torso, holding back the urge
to rub her hands all over him. He was a statue of
beauty. She let out a deep breath almost moaning
getting the attention from both gentlemen, "What?"
"What was that for?" her grandfather opened up the
pizza box, "Miss Snippet would only let me get the
extra cheese, pepperoni and mushrooms. I personally
love black olives and sausage but you know her."
"Yeah I do." Jeff winked at her as she stuck her
tongue out.
"Um hello you two. This is not pick on Kendall hour.
Shut up and eat."

Her grandfather waited down the sidewalk for her as
she said goodbye to Jeff.
"This was a nice surprise. I'm glad you two came." He
held her by the hips, pressed up against his body,
"Can I call you later?"
She rubbed her hands along his shoulders, "No."
Jeff looked away from her, "Oh."
"You can meet me at the river at five though." She
kissed his smile, "Granddaddy has a meeting at four
thirty so I'll be alone. You better get back to work.
I'll see you tonight." She kissed him again for
goodbye.
"Your girlfriend is quite the looker there Hardy."
"That she is Jimmy." Jeff waved to her as she looked
back one last time blowing him a kiss.

Kendall jumped behind the wheel of the new cherry red
BMW convertible that her granddaddy bought her,
"Gramps thank you so much."
"I'm glad you like it. Now we have something else to
go buy."
Her eyebrows narrowed together, "What now?"
"An apartment for you." He spoke softly.
She shut the car off, turning towards him, "Why do I
need an apartment? Gramps what's going on?"
"You're father is trying to have you transferred back
to the university in New York. My meeting is with the
dean to put a kibosh on his plans. Once that's out of
the way, he'll try something else. I want you out of
there. I've seen how happy Jeff makes you and I won't
let your father take that away from you. We have a
meeting with a real estate agent in about thirty
minutes. Cupcake I'm sorry."
She wiped the fresh tears from her face, "I can't
believe he's doing this. Who does he think he is?
Don't you dare say my father because I'll poke you in
the eye."
"I wasn't going to say anything. We better get going."
"Yeah alright. Tell me the name and I'll take us
there."
