Title: Don't Take That Step

Author: Jami Lynn
Chapter: 1
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the wrestlers used in this story, 'cause if I did, I'd be busy with them right now *grin*. But I do own Jami, for she is me. Tasha owns herself. (Heaven help the person who tries to claim he/she owns either of us). This is the next story in the Step series...it's the Tasha/Edge sequel. And the address to the stories is at the bottom of this email. And I use the wrestlers wrestling names in the story, JUST DEAL WIT IT! And don't bother suing me...all you'd get is a half eaten ham sandwich and a bag of chips from 2 years ago.
Distribution: Ask me if you can use it, more than likely I will say yes.
Rating: So far, it's a PG-13
Content: Nothing bad as of yet, probably won't be anything to bad either....maybe some cussing.
Spoilers: Um...anything can happen and I'm just writing as I go, so I don't know yet *L*.
Summary: When we last left our characters: Jami and Jeff were trying to work out their problems, Lita had confused the hell out of Matt by kissing him and Tasha had confused the hell out of herself.  Now, i'ts one week later.....
Feedback: I need feedback like I need air! So give it to me, babee! I have been suffocating lately....so please, send in the  feedback.

(1 week later)
The door to the hotel room flew open and Jami bounced into the room.  Jeff looked up from where he was packing his suitcase and smiled.  As the door shut behind her, Jami stood still in the room for a few moments while her eyes adjusted to the dusky darkness in the room.

Jeff bit back a laugh as he thought to himself, 'She's finally starting to learn that if you go to jump on a bed and you can't see it, your likely to tumble off the other side.'  The bump she had gotten on her forehead three days ago proved that point.

Jeff's green eyes scanned over her.  Jami was wearing a faded pair of low riding jeans and a baby tee that said 'Girls Rule' in silver across the black tee.  Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail at the top of her head and a pair of sunglasses perched there completed the look.

Finally Jami's eyes adjusted to the darkness of the room.  She leapt onto the double bed, knocking a few of Jeff's clothes onto the floor.    "Guess what?" she asked him.  "That by the time you get packed most of my clothes will be on the floor?"  Jeff sighed.

Jami looked up at him with the most innocent look she could muster.  "I sorry.  And Anyways, I'm already packed. So guess what guess what guess what?"  Jami excitedly asked him.  With each 'guess what', she bounced on the bed, knocking more of his clothes to the floor.

"Okay, tell me before you dump half my suitcase on the floor." Jeff grinned. Jami grinned at him innocently before jumping to her feet on the bed, which of course knocked his suitcase off and onto the floor.

"Guess!!" Jami demanded, doing her best to sound like a five year old.  "you've finally decided to lay off the coke (the pop, not the drug)." he guessed.  Jami gave him a shocked look.  "no way!  When I'm on my last breath, I want coca-cola to be in my IV."  Jami dramatically stated.

"What then?" Jeff asked.  "Well, you know how we usually stay in pet-allowed hotels..well, Steph, Tasha, Lita, Torrie, Ivory, Debra, Lillian, Trish and a few other women involved behind the scenes decided that we were going to adopt two kitties from the local animal shelter.  Oh Jeff, you should see them!  They are so cute!  The female kitty is all white except for a little patch of black on the tip of her tale.  The male kitty is a calico!" Jami coo'd, falling on the bed in a mock swoon.

"A boy and a girl kitty?  Won't that create...more kitties?" Jeff asked.  "Eventually.  Which we figured we could give them way to children that would take care of them or we could have a auction-type thing where the procedes would go to the make-a-wish foundation or other charity."  Jami told him.

"That's not even the coolest part!  The kitties were already named.  Some elementary school students named them and I'm guessing they are WWF fans.  They named the female Diva and the male Nero!" Jami laughed as Jeff looked at her in shock.

Jami nodded, "weird ain't it.  Anyways, the Divas are going to trade the kitties every week. Like one week Steph will have them, the next week Lita will have them and so on and so forth.  Any anyone can join our little group as long as they work for the WWF and travel with us.  Plus during the shows we can keep them in Steph's office since it's guarded.  Do you know what this means?" Jami asked in delight.

"That you are going to maek me go see them and make baby-kissy talk to them?" Jeff guessed.  "Yep! Exactly!  And hurry up. After we see the kitties we have to drive to Cameron to meet Traci (jami's sister) at the airport. But not til we see the kitties!" Jami gushed and Jeff had to laugh.

He loved this part of Jami.  Not that he didn't love her as a whole, but this was the Jami that seldom visited, but when it did, it made everyone smile.  Jeff looked at her now, her head hanging half off the bed, her eyes closed.  He loved everything about her.  The choice of clothes, her obsession with streaking her hair. The way she was so emotional. The way she could be so strong.

It suprised Jeff somewhat how much HE had changed since they met.  Jeff was the young daredevil, try anything man.  But now his family came first.  He felt overprotective of Jami-which sometimes got in the way of her independence.

Matt had always been the serious brother, and Jeff could never understand why he was like that.  But now he could.  He was the serious one now.  Jami loved to make people smile, and do crazy and wacky things.  Jeff often had to pull her back from the edge before she went all the way over.  And he actually enjoyed it.  That's what suprised him the most.  He loved being the provider type, the one who pulled others back from the ledge instead of leaping off of it himself.

Jeff shook himself from his thoughts as Jami leapt up suddenly.  "I'm going to go see what Tasha and Lita are doing.  I'll be back.  And hurry up with your packing.  You are such a slow packer." Jami grinned as Jeff looked down at his clothes sprawled at his feet.  Then she flounced out of the room and onto another conquest.
