SUMMARY:  A blizzard drives a stranger to Raquel's door.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I sat at my dining-room table, sipping at a hot chocolate and reading a good book.  It had been a particularly cold week, and this wasn't the first day I was grateful for my heating and my fireplace.  The book, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare, was entrancing; although I had read it countless times before, I still couldn't pry my eyes from the pages.  I had the radio playing quietly in my bedroom, which was one room over.  I was looking forward to a quiet evening, since the weatherman on the radio had said that there would be a tremendous blizzard coming this way.  I didn't mind, in fact, I kind of enjoyed the thought of being stuck here alone for a few days.  I had enough supplies for a week, and so I was in no trouble.  I sat there reading for several hours and the next time I looked out the window it was getting dark and the snow had begun to fall quite fast. The forest looked so beautiful like that.  I was about to turn away from the window to turn a few lights on so I could read better, when a movement outside caught my eye.  I stared through the almost blinding snow, trying to figure out what it was out there . . . it didn't move like the normal forest animals out here.  After a few minutes, I realized what it was.  It was a person, walking in this horrid weather!
Well, I ran to the hallway and grabbed some blankets and I threw on a coat and ran out the door.  When the person saw me, they immediately picked up speed toward my little house.  I ran to meet them and handed over the blankets, wrapping one around the figure and rushing them into the house.  We got inside and the man (I could tell by his stature that he was a man) worked on getting out of his wet and cold coat.  When he pulled his hood down, I gasped.  This man was the most handsome man I had ever set eyes on.  He had long dark blonde hair, and a small beard and mustache.  His eyes were hypnotizing; I felt like I could stare at them forever.  Right away I pushed all of those thoughts out of my head, telling myself that I had to help him.  At first he couldn't talk well, he was too chilled to get a word out.  I sat him down on the couch in the living room and then hurried to the kitchen to make him a big glass of hot chocolate.  I gave it to him, smiled and said, "Drink this, it will help you warm up faster."  He smiled gratefully, and I almost melted right there.  I gathered my thoughts and took his coat to the laundryroom and hung it up to dry.  While I was back there, I found an old pair of winter slippers that my brother had left here the last time he had visited.  They were a bit worn, but they seemed intact.  I also found a chest with some more of my brother's things.  I took them back to the man in my living room, hoping the slippers would fit.  When I got there, he had already taken off his shoes because they were freezing and pretty close to flooded.  He was standing at my fireplace, his back to me, looking at the abstract painting that was on the wall above it.  I stood there for a moment, impressed by his height.  He seemed to be almost 7 feet tall!  I watched him for a second more, then put the chest next to the dining room table and forced myself to approach him.  "Here, I found these in my laundryroom, I hope they fit," I said to him, smiling.  He turned to face me and my heart fluttered.  When he saw the slippers he grinned and took them, and said, "Thank you very much!  They look fine to me."  His voice was deep and smooth and my head felt a little light.
"You're very welcome.  The snow is horrible out there; I'm glad I could help.  My name is Raquel Miller, what's yours?" I said, extending my hand.  He got a sort of funny look on his face when I asked his name, almost a smirk, and shook my hand, "My name's Kevin.  Kevin Nash."
"Well, Kevin, the way the snow is pouring in, it looks like you'll be here at least a night."  My heart sang at that thought, but I forced myself to ignore it.  "What were you doing out there in this weather?"
"I was taking a drive when my car broke down," he answered, "and when the engine died, the heater wouldn't work, so I looked around and I saw smoke a ways off.  I figured where there's smoke; there's fire.  And where there's fire, there are people.  So I started walking.  I'm lucky you had your fireplace going," he replied with a slight smile.
"Very lucky, by the look of things.  You weren't wearing the best clothes for walking in the winter," I said chuckling. He laughed, "Well I wasn't exactly planning on a cross-country hike, if you know what I mean.  I had heard how beautiful the land was out here so I decided to drive around and see for myself."
"So you're not from around here, then?"
"No, I'm staying at the Marriott in town.  I'm in Colorado on business.  Speaking of which, could I use your phone?"
"Of course!" I said, and led him to it.  He called the hotel and asked to speak to someone named Eric Bischoff.  Kevin explained the situation and assured Eric that he was fine and said that he wasn't going to be able to make it back until tomorrow at the earliest.
"May I ask what sort of business you're in?" I inquired after he hung up, thinking he had to be a model of some sort, and then smiled, "or am I asking too many questions?"
"Oh no, not at all.  It helps pass the time," he replied, smiling back at me, which made my heart jump, "although you might laugh.  I'm a professional wrestler for World Championship Wrestling; or WCW as we call it."  I must have looked surprised because he laughed again and said, "It's not that bad of a job nowadays.  I actually enjoy it a lot, even though it is a bit hard on me at times."
"I must look pretty unintelligent since I didn't know who you are," I said, blushing slightly, pretty embarrassed by my apparent lack of knowledge.
Kevin looked shocked and smiled kindly, "Unintelligent?  Not in the least!  Why, you have this wonderful piece of art above your fireplace, and someone who can read Shakespeare, as I see your book on the table over there, and evidently enjoy it cannot be called unintelligent by any means!"
Now I really was blushing, and I smiled shyly.  "How nice of you to say that.  Are you a fan of Shakespeare?"
He nodded slightly, smiled, and replied, "Enough to recognize his work, I suppose.  I've never had the time to see a play, but when I read Shakespeare in high school I found it very interesting."
"I haven't met many people who could understand Shakespeare, let alone like his work," I said in a jesting manner, which got a short laugh out of him.  That sound made my heart glow.
"Neither have I, for that matter!  We seem to be two rare people," he said with a wide smile and a twinkle in his eye, looking straight at me.
I could barely breathe and my temperature was rising.  This gorgeous mountain of a man seemed to be making a pass at plain, average me!  "Kevin, can I get you some more hot chocolate?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He continued to look me right in the eye and replied, "No, thank you Raquel, I'm just fine now."  I was blushing again; I could feel it.  I stood and said, "Well, I'm going to make myself another cup.  I'll be right back."
Kevin smiled warmly and nodded, drinking the last of his own glass.  I walked to the kitchen, and when I was satisfied he couldn't see me I flopped into a chair.  I had to get control of myself, he's just a guy, no matter how gorgeous (and boy was he gorgeous) or smart, and besides, he was probably married and I was just misinterpreting friendly conversation.  I stood up and poured myself another cup of hot cocoa.
When I got back to the living room, I saw he had sat on the floor in front of the fireplace, staring at the logs.  I stopped for a second, then slowly walked closer to him and sat in a chair to his right.  "Glad to see you're getting warmer," I said smiling.  He turned to look at me and smiled back at me again, then asked, "So Raquel, I told you about myself, now it's your turn."
I was slightly surprised and said, "Well, whatever you want to know just ask."  He thought for a second and said, "I gather you live here alone?"  I nodded, blushing yet again, telling myself I had to get a handle on it, then said, "Just me and this house.  Family comes to visit every once in a while, that's how I found those slippers for you."
He chuckled a little.  "And they fit great, thank you.  They're very warm.  I'm glad yours was the house I came to."  He was staring at me again, and I didn't know how to react other than to keep talking.  "What about you? Any family?"  He shook his head.  "No, I live a bachelor's life, which isn't as great as many bachelors would have you believe," he answered smiling.  I laughed.  "I'd think someone like you would have someone," I said, surprised that he was single. He smiled, with that twinkle returning to his eye and replied, "Funny, I thought the same about you." I laughed nervously and drank the last of my hot chocolate, feeling his eyes on me.  "Well," I said, "I'm going to take our cups back to the kitchen."
I stood up, walked a few steps, and felt my feet fly out from under me.  I had slipped on a small puddle of water that had formed when Kevin had first arrived and had been dripping wet.  I stumbled backward and felt strong arms catch me and hold me.  I was staring right into his eyes, and he was staring into mine. We couldn't have stood like that for more than a few seconds, but it felt like eternity.  I cleared my throat and said softly, "I should probably throw another log on the fire, it seems to be dying down."  He smiled warmly and my heart skipped as I heard him say quietly, "Don't worry, I can keep you warm."  He pressed his lips to mine, and I let out a small sound of surprise, but I held on to him, not wanting it to end.  He kissed me deeply and passionately, and I felt my whole body tingle. He picked me up and laid me down on the couch.  He kissed me again, and I was nearly fainting.  He ended the kiss and looked at me, moving the hair away from my face and caressing my cheek.  He whispered, "You know, the snow is a few feet high by now, we'll be trapped for a few days." I could barely believe this was happening.  I nodded slowly, "I, I have plenty of food and supplies to last a week.  W-We . . . should be fine."  He chuckled, "Yes, we'll be just fine."
He started to kiss me again, and I felt his hands on my body.  I gently broke the kiss and said, "No, not here on the couch."  He smiled and let me lead him to my bedroom.  I turned off the radio and he enveloped me in his arms.  This was like nothing that had ever happened to me before.  That night was pure bliss, total heaven.  We made love over and over, and then lay in each other's arms until we fell asleep.
I woke up to a bright morning sun, thinking it had all been a dream.  Then I heard noises in the kitchen and smiled.  I got up and put on my robe and went in.
Kevin stood there at the stove making pancakes, wearing a pair of my brother's jogging pants and I burst out laughing.  They looked like short pants on him, not even reaching his ankles.  He turned at the sound of my laughter and grinned.  "What's so funny?" he asked jokingly.  "Oh, nothing at all, just the sight of you in my brother's clothes," I responded, laughing again.  He laughed, too, and came over to give me a big hug and kiss.
"I hope you slept well, some of the guys I room with on occasion tell me I snore," he said, and winked at me.  I smiled and answered, "Last night I could have slept through a bulldozer."  I poured myself a glass of orange juice and one for Kevin, too.  He went back to the pancakes and gave me a couple.
We spent the rest of the morning talking.  We talked about everything a man and woman can talk about, and with each passing moment we fell more deeply in love with each other.  Now I knew what love at first sight was all about.  After a few hours, he called Eric Bischoff again, whom he had explained to me was his boss, and told him he was stuck here for a few days. Then he went to take a shower, so I read some more of my Shakespeare.  I thought to myself that I'd never be able to read "A Midsummer Night's Dream" again without thinking of that night.
When Kevin got out of the shower, he sneaked up on me and wrapped his powerful arms around me from behind.  "Now that I'm clean, how's about a little not-so-clean fun?" he asked, with an impish grin on his face.  I smiled and slipped my bookmark into the book, and turned around and kissed him deeply.  He grinned again and said, "I'll take that as a yes." I held him tight and whispered, "Oh, I'd say that's a big yes."
We made love and just lay with each other all afternoon and evening, sliding in and out of sleep.  When I woke up, it was twilight.  I decided to surprise him and I made a nice dinner.  He woke up and sleepily walked into the kitchen and smiled, "Honey, you didn't have to do all this."  I kissed him on the cheek and said, "No I didn't.  I wanted to."
The next two days were spent pretty much the same way.  Love and conversation, and I was in heaven, so was he.
After we ate one day, we sat in the living room in front of the fireplace.  I turned to him and asked, "Well, Mr. Wrestler, when is the show you are here to do?"  He smiled sadly and said, "The day after tomorrow.  If it's not canceled because of the snow."  I frowned slightly and asked, "Then what happens?"
He looked me right in the eyes, "You mean, what happens with us."  I nodded, and he continued.  "These past three days have been the best of my life.  I wish I could have this go on forever.  But it can't."  I looked down at the floor, trying hard not to burst into tears.  When I thought I could speak, I replied, "I understand," my voice wavering.
He lifted my chin so I was looking at him and he smiled, saying, "No you don't, Raquel.  I want you to come on the road with me.  The snow is melted enough for us to leave tomorrow; we can spend that night in my hotel room, and then you can see what it is I do for a living. And after that, after a few weeks or months traveling together," he paused slightly, "then we'll see what comes next."
I was floored and could barely speak.  "You want me to go with you?  Would Mr. Bischoff allow that?"  He smiled and said, "I have a pretty big name where I work, I could persuade Eric to let it happen."  I grinned and hugged him tight.  I was glowing as I answered, "Of course I'll go with you, I want nothing more than to do just that."
He kissed me gently and whispered, "I love you, Raquel."
I kissed him back and said softly, "I love you, too, Kevin."
