Chapter 4

As she walked into breakfast the next morning Jeff called over to her so she went and sat with him, Matt and Amy. “What are you doing today?” Jeff asked as he ate his breakfast.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

“I have a promo to do and then I have to go and see Vince about Smackdown! Why?”

“Just wondering that’s all.” He replied felling a bit self-conscious after what had happened the night before. Chloe stood up, as she finished her breakfast.

“I gotta go, I’ll catch up with you later, ok, bye” she didn’t leave them time to reply as she nearly ran out to her car.

“What’s up with her?” Amy asked Matt and Jeff who were stunned by her abruptness.

“I have no idea,” Matt said as he carried on eating his breakfast.

“I think I do.” Jeff told them as he stood up. “I’ll catch you later”. He then left in much the same fashion Chloe had.

“Do you think our plan is working?” Amy asked Matt as they sat finishing their breakfast.

“Yeh, I guess it is.” He replied not paying much attention, he just starred at the door Chloe and his brother left through.

Meanwhile in the parking lot Chloe was leaving the hotel as she noticed Jeff’s distinctively coloured hair, she pulled up next to him. “I think we need to talk” he said as he leaned on the car door.

“Hop in.” as he did she drove out of the car park at high speed.

“Shit…”Jeff yelled as she pulled out in front of a truck that was going pretty quick. “So this is what a F1 driver drives like.”

“Something like that.” She over took nearly everything in sight, but she then realised she had no idea of where they were actually going. She waited until she saw a pull-off; she pulled into it and cut the engine. “What did you want to talk about?” she said undoing her belt and getting out of the car, she walked around to the other side of the car away from the traffic. She sat on the grass and looked at Jeff he was still sitting in the car but he had opened the door and was sitting sideways on the seat.

“I just wanted to know why you were acting so weird at breakfast.”

“I wasn’t, was I?”

“Yeah, you just seemed a little spaced out that’s all.”

“Well, I felt awkward around you guys, I could see Amy and Matt looking us as if they expected us to tell them that something happened last night.”

“And what about what happened last night?”

“Jeff, look, like you said when we went bowling, there’s no point coz I leave tomorrow.”

“So, what, you’re telling me we kissed for no reason.”

“No, when you kissed me I was a bit, well, surprised.” Jeff looked away from her. “Jeff” he eventually turned back. She lent forward to reach for his hand, he put his hand in hers and she then pulled him out of the car so he was sitting next to her on the grass. “I was surprised in a nice way, I didn’t expect it after what you said the night before. I kissed you back because I wanted to.”

“Really?”

“Yes, I like you Jeff, I really like you but….” he stopped her finishing her sentence by turning her head and pressing his lips lightly against hers. She couldn’t help herself from kissing him back. He wrapped his arms around her. As they got deeper into the kiss Chloe pulled Jeff’s hair toggle out and ran her hands through his long silky hair. She felt him move his hands over her back, reluctantly she pulled away from him. “Not here.” He didn’t seem to hear her as he pulled her back to him. “No, Jeff.” She got up and brushed her trousers off. He stood up beside her.

“Sorry,” he slid his hands around he waist and kissed her gently before he let go. They got back in the car and drove off. After all that Chloe had forgotten she had no idea where they were. But she found a place to stop for petrol, when she paid she asked the guy. Soon they were on their way to the arena. “Shit!! I’m supposed to be at the promo!!” She told Jeff what the place was called and he found it on the map.

“Vince sorry, I’m late!!” Chloe said as she reached Vince, who had been waiting for her for the past 40 minutes. “We got lost.”

“That’s ok, why’s he here?” he said pointing at Jeff who hadn’t caught her up yet.

“Um… it’s a long story.” Jeff stood beside her at that point.

“Ok, these guys want a photo shoot with you. I’ll just go check out some things, back in a second”

Chloe turned to Jeff. “We still haven’t finished talking.”

“Yeah, I know, we will later when…” he cut short as Vince came back.

“Ok, they want you to just sit in as many poses as you can on the car over there. He pointed to a sports car in the middle of the parking lot. “Jeff, we have a use for you after all.”

“Ok, what is it?”

“We need some one to get us all a drink,” Chloe laughed as Jeff just nodded.

After sitting in about 1000 poses in and on the car and 20 changes of clothes, the shoot was over and she and Jeff left. “I’ll tell you what, why don’t we go find somewhere quiet we can talk.” Jeff said as he turned the car of the freeway.

“Sure.” They drove on for about 10 minutes and Jeff stopped the car as the road came to an end, they both got out and walked over to sit in the shade under a tree.

Before Chloe could get a sentence out. Jeff put his finger to her lips closely followed by his lips. She thought to herself “Fuck he can kiss” but she made herself pull away from him. “Look, at the pull-off earlier you didn’t let me finish what I was saying, I said I like you BUT it doesn’t feel right, I don’t know why but I just don’t think you and me would work especially as…” Jeff stood up and interrupted her.

“So your telling me that you will kiss me and tell me you like me but you won’t be with me? Why didn’t you just say to start with?”

Chloe became annoyed at him; she stood up so he couldn’t stand over her. “Jeff, I tried to tell you but every time I tried you kissed me and I couldn’t stop myself from kissing you back. The thing is I do really like you but you’re not the only person I like over here and I am so confused, I just don’t know who or what I want.” Jeff walked up to her and put his hands on her arms.

“I’m sorry, I guess I got carried away, I shouldn’t have, forgive me?”

“There’s nothing to forgive, she stepped back. “Friends is all I can manage right now.”

“That’s ok with me” he seemed to only just remember something she had said before. “Who else do you ‘like’?”

“You’re not going to like it…”

“Try me”

“I don’t want to”

“Just tell me for God sake!!”

“Matt”

“WHAT?” Jeff said as he turned away from her and lent on the front of the car.

“I’m sorry, I can’t help the way I feel. I just think he is...”

“Just shut up!! I don’t want to hear this right now.” He walked around to the back of the car to try and get away from her.

“Jeff, just listen to me. I never meant for any of this to happen. I don’t want to feel the way I do about Matt, but I can’t turn my feelings off and I hate the fact you expect me to do that.” She walked around to the back of the car where he was standing. “Do you seriously believe that I wanted this to happen?”

“No, but look at it from my point of view, a beautiful girl that I think is extremely special kisses me blah blah blah, but then she tells me that she has a thing for my brother.” He turned away from her once again, but this time she grabbed his arm firmly and made him turn around.

“Look, we’re getting no where talking like this, lets just go to the arena and sort it out with Matt if that’ll make you happy!!.”

“Yeah, Matt will be well pleased to hear that you’re in love with him.”

“I am not in love with him!!!!” She became so angry she couldn’t help herself; she slapped him across the cheek. “Grow up Jeff!!” She got into the drivers seat of the car and waited for him to get in. As he did he didn’t look at her. “Jeff, Jeff, look at me.” He still didn’t. She lent across the car and turned his face towards her. “I’m sorry, you have to understand that I need some time to sort myself out.” He didn’t say anything; he just took her hand and held it in his she started the engine and she pulled her hand away from him so she could put the car into gear, as she did she heard Jeff mumble something but she didn’t hear it. She turned the car around and headed back the way they came.

“So, I have a match with Amy against Nora and Jackie?”

“Yeah, is that a problem?” Vince asked Chloe as they stood with the scriptwriters.

“No, I’ve just never wrestled in a tag match before. In England I did some but that’s so different from over here.

“Well, we have faith in you to do it, so have fun ok, by the way Matt and Jeff are coming with you to ring side. You’ll need to speak to Amy, Nora and Jackie and they’ll tell you what to do. Ok?”

“Yeah, thanks,” she shook his hand and went to leave but “Vince, I’m going for a drive, I’ll be back in an hour.”

“Sure, don’t get lost!!” he joked as she left the room.

She ran down the corridor and tried to think of where she was actually running to. She ran around a corner and bumped into someone, they both went flying onto the floor. “Sorry” she automatically said without seeing who it was. She held the back of her head after she had hit it on the floor.

“That’s ok,” a familiar voice said. She looked up to see it was Matt.

“Hi, sorry, I wasn’t looking” she said still holding her head, he had climbed to his feet and offered her his hand, she accepted and he pulled her of the floor.

“What’s the hurry?”

“Nothing. I was just…”she pulled her hand away from the back of her head and to her surprise she was actually bleeding.

“Hey, let me look at that.” She turned around so he could look. “Come on, let’s go and clean it up. “ She followed him to his and Jeff’s dressing room. She could feel the blood going down her neck and back. As they entered the room Chloe hoped that Jeff wasn’t there, he wasn’t. “Sit down, I’ll get a wet cloth.” Matt said disappearing into the bathroom. He returned and took Chloe’s hair out, he found where it was cut and gently wiped the blood away with the cloth.

“OWWW!!” Chloe said as she tried to move but Matt held her back.

“Sorry, it’ll sting but you need to get it cleaned. And ugh… you’ve kinda got blood all the way down you back and it’s stained your shirt.”

“Great, I’ll have to go back to the hotel and change, that’s all I need.”

“There you go.” Matt put her hair back in a loose ponytail. “It’ll hurt for a while but that’ll teach you not to run in the corridors!” He said to her as she stood up. He tried to get her to smile but she wouldn’t.

“Thanks, I’d better go and get changed, I’ll see you later ok?”

“Wait a sec, won’t all the blood down your back stain your car seats?”

“Fuck it!!!!!! Why can’t just one thing go right for me!!!!!!”

“Hey, calm down, I’ll grab you a shirt, it’ll be a bit big but…”

“Thanks.” She said to him as he rummaged in his back and turned back to her with a Hardyz Basketball shirt in his hand. It took him a second to realise that she was crying. He went up to her and put his hands on her shoulders.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” She wiped her eyes and moved free from Matt. “I better go back to the hotel.” He handed her the shirt. Not thinking she got changed in front of him. She looked back at Matt who was smiling. She tapped the side of his face. “Do you wanna come with me?” She tucked the front of the shirt into her trousers.

“Sure.” He grabbed his car keys of his bed and followed her out of the door.

As they reached the parking lot Chloe looked around. “Which is your car?”

“The big silver one over the back.” He pointed to it as he led her across to it. “Does your head still hurt?”

“Yeah, like you said I’ll learn my lesson.” For the first time since she had bumped into him she smiled.

“That’s better, grumpy doesn’t suit you!”
