
Since 1905 the National Wrestling Alliance has existed in some shape or form, The promotion had different champions in different areas for years until 1948 when Orville Brown won the belt from George Hackenshmidt. Here in somewhat its entirety, *i couldnt find all the information on the net so some of this is not factually correct* is the history of the most prestigous and often times controversial belt in the sport of professional wrestling.

7.Buddy Rogers June 30, 1961* Promoters in the northeast refuse to recognize Buddy Rogers' one-fall loss to Lou Thesz and succeed from the National Wrestling Alliance to form a new promotion called the World Wide Wrestling Federation (now known as the WWE) and naming Rogers as the first WWWF World Heavyweight Champion. Lou Thesz defeated Rogers in a rematch on Febrary 7, 1963 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A similar incident took place in 1965 when Mid West promotors wanted the NWA title put on Verne Gagne and refused to recognize Gagnes loss to Thesz in Minneapolis thus forming the Allstar Wrestling Association or the AWA later renamed the American Wrestling Association*

Ric Flair 1983 Trinidad *Unofficial NWA World title changes in the Carribean, they were negotiated between WWC and NWA officials but was later decided to be kept quiet in America ,this happend quite a bit as Flair lost the belt in July 1983 to both Jack Veneo and Hercules Ayala after a fan shot into the ring and Flair fearing for his life let Ayala roll him up for the pin, he regained the title the next night but it never was recognized in the states. Remember this was in the days before the Internet or the Dirt Sheets so the promotors figured if nobody knew it wouldnt hurt anything *

July 1991: Ric Flair is stripped of the NWA World Heavyweight title after Flair has a dispute with WCW President Jim Herd and Ted Turner himself and signs with the WWF. He took the recognized NWA World Heavyweight title belt with him and in a attempt to kill the prestige around the belt Vince McMahon came up with the "Real World's Heavyweight Champion." gimmick and imeadiatly pushed Flair into a program with then WWF Champion Hulk Hogan On the same date, the NWA vacated the World Heavyweight title for the first time in its history, WCW disassociated itself from the NWA and crowned Lex Luger the new WCW champion in July 1991, Flair returned to WCW in February of 1993
July 1992, After being dormant for nearly one year WCW decides to realign itself with the NWA in an attempt to bring some prestige and recogniton to the company,a tournament is started in both Japan and America. Masahiro Chono and Ric Rude make it to the finals.But in true WCW fashion they keep there own title belt.

September 1993, WCW leaves the NWA once again and the title belt dropped the recognition as being the NWA World Heavyweight title. The belt became known as the WCW International World Heavyweight title with Ric Flair becoming the first champion The belt was dropped 6 months later with Sting being the last man to hold it.
1994: The NWA starts a 2 week tournament in Philidelphia to crown a new champion.
47.Shane Douglas August 27, 1994 * The era of Extreme is born. Douglas drops the belt after defeating 2 Cold Scorpio in the tournament final and proclaims that the Eastern Championship Wrestling Heavywieght Title is the new World Title. ECW disassociated itself from the NWA and became EXTREME Championship Wrestling revolutioning Wrestling as we know it. Dennis Carluzo and NWA President Howard Brody scrambled and took the NWA name and belt with them and continued promoting in New Jersey under the sanctioning body rules*
48.Chris Candido November 19, 1994* Defeated Tracy Smothers in the finals, both were apart of Smoky Mountain Wrestling at the time but promotors squabbled about whether or not Candido would defend the belt in or even be recognized as champion in SMW so Candido left Smoky Mountain Wrestling then later dropped the belt to sign with the WWF*

May 2002, The NWA annouces that the Title will be awarded to the winner of the "Gauntlet for the Gold" Battle Royal at the first NWA Total Nonstop Action PPV where the last 2 men in the match must wrestle for the belt.
