 There is a phrase that says the Wheels Of Progress always march on. The question to ask is this, how accurate is that statement? Do the Wheels Of Progress move for everything in life? More importantly, do the Wheels Of Progress have something new in mind for the UBWF? Let's examine this statement in this edition of The Opening Gambit. (Gambit: Noun – A remark made to open or redirect a conversation.) In the world we live in today, change is something that surrounds our lives. Yet, as humans, we fail to notice the changes that occur in our lives. Have you ever wondered why the changes occur? Most, if not all, people will comment that no, they hardly notice changes that occur everyday. Now, I know what you are going to say: "McCloud, I know that when things change, I see them occur." Do you? Not really. When things change, most people, if not all, will notice that things changed after the fact. There is a difference. Changes as they occur are a site of wonder. These changes show that life is going through a metamorphic state. After the metamorphosis is complete, there is no change. What occurred is history now, because there are other things in life that are changing around it. That is what keeps us going. These changes that are constantly occurring are the Wheels Of Progress in motion. Progress is that which is necessary to advance ones' self in the road of life. (It sounds like I am building a vehicle!) And, it seems that the recent turns of events are possibly helping the UBWF advance itself further. Has anyone read the Tower Of Chicken's comments he made on April 25th? His remarks were directed to members of the old school, more specifically Dr. Death, Thunderbolt Mike Stryker, and the Geek. The style he used in his writing is very reminiscent of Old School tactics. It appears to me that the Youth Liberation has taken some notes on how to handle the Old School. They are deciding to fight Fire with Fire. And this is a great tactic to use. When you face the fire straight on, the fire has no choice but to consume you or succumb to the power you have. Now, I am not saying that the Youth Liberation is playing it smart. Nor am I backing their decisions. What I am saying is that they are taking the fight back to the Old School. One man finally proved that changing tactics in mid swing wil move the Wheels Of Progress. The question will then become this now: Can the Old School react quickly, or will they fall to the WOP's plans? Only Time will tell…. In conclusion, in the short days left before a PPV, I will make it a point to make my predictions on the matches that are to come. Now, please be advised that this is my viewpoint on this. You may disagree and that is fine. I respect that. So, please respect me. 1. Jr. Weight Title (?) - Random X 2. Josepi vs. Stryker - TOO CLOSE TO CALL. I feel a draw. 3. Hardcore Title - Hopeless (Josepi could have taken enough pain or will not be thinking right during this match.) 4. Iron Man Match - Carnage 5. International Title - TSM 6. Tag Team Match - Mystery Team (If the titles aren't on the line, what do the Ghetto Terrorists care?) 7. Video Games Match - The Black One (You take your pick!) 8. Clothesline Match - Josepi (Random X is stupid enough to be caught in one.) 9. World Championship - Tower Of Chicken (Unless the Old School Dr. Death can react fast.) Until then…. McCloud |
