June 25, 2010

As stated, these results will be shortened in order for me to get to the 10th anniversary special. All matches on this edition of Main Event were contested in the 16 man single elimination tournament to crown a new Lightheavyweight champion.

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Blitzkrieg vs. Suicide

Fans didn't know what to expect out of Blitzkrieg, who hadn't competed in a ring in at least 6 years. Conversely, the crowd was very much behind Suicide. Suicide used kicks to the legs and body to try and slow down Blitzkrieg early and after landing a back footsweep, he kicked him square in the ribs. But he wouldn't keep Blitzkrieg grounded for long. After shooting him to the ropes, Suicide found himself on the receiving end of a flying headscissor which allowed Blitzkrieg to follow up with several quick manuevers. But when he went for a hurricanrana, Suicide countered into a powerbomb and folded him up, but he could only get a 2 count. Suicide whipped him into the corner and flew in with a flying wheel kick but Blitzkrieg moved out of the way and then hit a wonderful standing shooting star press to pin Suicide.

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Mike Modest vs. Justin Gabriel

Many of the fans in attendance were buzzing about Gabriel, who is currently training in The Asylum. But his athleticism is what got him into this tournament and it was on display here. Modest wanted to work some basic chain wrestling, but every time he got a chance, Gabriel quickened the pace. After catching Modest with a high impact dropkick, Gabriel measured him for a flying leg lariat. He was ready to go to the top rope, perhaps ready for the move everyone is talking about, his 450 splash. But Modest got up and pushed Gabriel's feet out from under him, knocking him to a seated position. The ring veteran then went to the top turnbuckle and brought Gabriel off with a very nice frankensteiner. He then scrambled to a cover and got the 3 count.

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Silver Wolf vs. Davey Richards

The upset of the night had to be this one. The much hyped Davey Richards had probably never seen Silver Wolf in action, but he brought the fight to him here with a hard nosed attack. After a basement dropkick, he locked in a dragon sleeper on Silver Wolf which he was only able to escape after a big knee to the head. Silver Wolf then took Richards out with a clothesline and he had turned the match in his favor. Moments later, he had Richards up against the ropes after some right hands but when he took a step back, Richards grabbed him under the arm and hip tossed him out of the ring. Silver Wolf got up and ran around the outside of the ring as Richards gave chase. As he tried to get back in threw the ring ropes, Silver Wolf kicked him right in the face, knocking Richards for a loop. Following a very nice inverted suplex slam, Silver Wolf picked Richards up with both hands around his throat, slamming him to the mat and covering him for the win.

Match Time: 7:16

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Kaval vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger

Making a name for himself wrestling in Japan, Kaval knows how much of a legend Jushin Liger is. He found that out first hand on this night. Kaval hit Thunder Liger with everything in his arsenal. After several hard kicks seemed to put Liger out of commission, Kaval whipped him to the corner but when he flew in with his roundhouse kick, no one was home. Liger then went to the top rope and came off with a Phoenix splash to get a nice win and advance in the tournament. Kaval seemed very upset with his mistake.

Match Time: 9:42

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Azteca vs. Hayabusa

Reportedly, Azteca just barely made the weight limit of 230 pounds for this match. Hayabusa was eager to show TWF fans what he could do again, but he never got out of the starting gate. Azteca assaulted him with a violent, almost street like attack and after rendering Hayabusa defenseless, he used some sort of inverted sambo suplex, driving Hayabusa into the match for a quick win.

Match Time: 3:05

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Reptile vs. Ultimo Dragon

It was the much anticipated TWF return of Ultimo Dragon. It was supposed to be a spectacle, it was supposed to be the Dragon everyone remembered. It wasn't supposed to be this. Reptile beat Ultimo in every phase of the game. Late in the match, Ultimo knocked Reptile off the apron with a spin kick to the head but when he went for the Asai moonsault, Reptile got out of the way. After rolling him back into the ring, the ninja in green slapped in a unique submission hold that was a borderline choke. The referee allowed it and Ultimo had no choice but to give in.

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Essa Rios vs. Douglas Williams

Douglas Williams says he's the best lightheavyweight in all of Europe and now, it's time for him to show he's the best in all of the world. His first assignment was a TWF Hall of Famer. Williams used a very technical, mat based attack to wear Rios down and Rios didn't get to pull off one high flying move. After twisting the arm of Rios, Williams grabbed the other and drove him into the mat face first with a very unique move. Williams then rolled him over and got the pin.

Match Time: 5:44

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 1st Round

Max Moon vs. Super Crazy

Max Moon was a surprise entrant into the 2010 Royal Rumble, and a big surprise at that. Would he be able to have any success in this tournament? Well it started out well for him as he showcased his high flying, quick strike ability against Super Crazy. Moon was able to get Super Crazy onto his shoulders and deliver a fireman carry slam to get the victory.

Match Time: 4:44

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 2nd Round

Mike Modest vs. Blitzkrieg

The second round was underway and both of these guys looked fresh despite hard fought first round wins. It was the quickness of Blitzkrieg that kept Modest guessing early. But after running into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, Blitzkrieg gave up control to Modest. A much more methodical lightheavyweight, Modest kept the smaller Blitzkrieg on the mat with a reverse chin lock. Blitzkrieg got up and tried to get back into it with 2 elbows to the gut. But when he ran the ropes, Modest caught him with a huge spinebuster. He then picked Blitzkrieg up and went over to the corner, setting him on the top rope. Modest was looking for the frankensteiner that allowed him to get out of the first round, but this time, Blitzkrieg held onto the top rope block it. Modest hit his head very hard on the mat when landing and Blitzkrieg then came off with a sunset flip for the pinfall.

Match Time: 5:48

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 2nd Round

Silver Wolf vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger

After already defeating Davey Richards, most thought Silver Wolf didn't have another upset in him. Well, he did. This was a good, back and forth match but Liger was showing signs of fatigue. He was still able to duck a clothesline and catch Silver Wolf with a spin kick to the jaw. But when he came off the top rope with the Phoenix splash, Silver Wolf got his knees up into his midsection. Liger was in a lot of pain and when he got up, Silver Wolf was waiting with a flapjack that allowed him to get the win.

Match Time: 8:26

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 2nd Round

Azteca vs. Reptile

Azteca employed the same strategy he overwhelmed Hayabusa with and he was successful early against Reptile. But he missed with an elbow drop in which he walked across the top rope and as he sat up on his knees, Reptile kicked him right in the head. The silent assassin then pounced on Azteca, locking in the hold that made Ultimo Dragon tap out and Azteca met the same fate.

Match Time: 4:28

Lightheavyweight Title Tournament- 2nd Round

Max Moon vs. Douglas Williams

This was probably the best match of the tournament as these two men went back and forth and had near fall after near fall. But after Moon connected with a wheel kick, Williams reached into his trunks and pulled out what appeared to be brass knuckles. He took a swing at Moon who just barely got away. The referee then saw Williams with the knucks and was about to DQ him when Moon positioned himself behind him and when Williams turned around, he ate a superkick. Moon then used a quick bridge rollup to get the 1...............2..............., but that was all. Moon then fought to get the brass knucks away from Williams and he handed them to the referee who turned his attention from the action briefly which allowed Williams to deliver a low blow before pulling Moon into a small package and that got him the 3 count.

Match Time: 8:14

That concludes the first 2 rounds of the tournament. The semi-finals will be held on an upcoming edition of PrimeTime. The Semi-Final matches are:

Blitzkrieg vs. Silver Wolf

Reptile vs. Douglas Williams
