Believe

Kat finished dressing and looked at herself in the mirror, a smile on her lips. She hadn't seen herself look this good since... since Andrew's walked out on her three months ago. On their anniversary. For the first time in over a month, she allowed herself to dwell over that traumatizing moment and sighed. She saw the scene replay itself in her mind.

It was late... past eleven thirty when Andrew walked into her loft apartment. She was sitting down in front of the table, her brown eyes lost in the tapering flame from the bit of candle that had burned all evening long. She didn't look up at his muttered greeting. She just kept on staring. He came to stand in front of her and looked down at the ribs, his favorite, congealed in their thick sauce, probably stone cold by now, at the potato in its golden foil, the cream having soaked into the porous vegetable, and the salad, gone limp from being outside for God knows how long.
"Hey Kat," he said a bit more loudly.
"..."
"You prepared dinner," he stated slowly.
She looked up at him and he saw the tears drying on her cheeks. For a moment, he was grateful that his girlfriend was low-maintenance otherwise he'd be looking down at a clown right now.
"I prepared dinner," she said slowly.
"Was tonight something special?" he asked.
"Our three year anniversary," she answered flatly.
"Oh."
"I know we've been having our share of problems for a while now Andrew, but I thought we could start again... start off new... tonight's dinner was a peace offering..."
"I don't want peace Kat," he interrupted her. "I want to end it... I'm tired of it, I'm tired of you, I'm tired of us."
Even three months later, Kat felt his words hit her. No amount of pleading, reasoning had gotten anything out of him. He wanted out, at any cost. And she'd watched him walk out of her life, fifteen minutes after he'd arrived, unable to stop him.

But now, after crying over him, berating him, she was ready to move on. She'd loved him with everything she had but now that they were done with, she would survive for no other reason than because she knew that after loving, she had to live.
As she walked to the club alone, Kat remembered what she'd heard he'd said about her not being able to live without him. According to some of her friends, he believed that she'd turn into a hermit now that he was gone. How little he knew. She knew better. She was doing better than surviving through life without love, she was living fully and was enjoying every second of it.
Through those friends, she'd heard about his numerous affairs with ring rats, his interminable series of one-night-stands. But through it all, no matter how hot all those young girls with the pert breasts were, it was Kat he kept on talking about, Kat that was always on his mind. But Kat had life on her mind, much more than she had Andrew.
At the club, Kat hit the dance floor right away. She'd missed this so much, the feel of the music pumping through her body, moving with every beat, caring about nothing but the music, mouthing the lyrics she knew and not caring about fumbling over the lyrics she didn't know.
When she hit the bar, that's when she saw him, a bottle blonde on his right arm, a redhead on the other, his large hand on both their asses. He strode over to her, his cocky smile never leaving his lips.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, bending over her.
"Having fun. Know their names?"
"Nah... why should I? I won't stick around long enough to care. Why?"
"Cause I'm moving on Andrew. You're not."
Kat put her highball glass on the bar and went back to the dance floor and started dancing again. After seeing him, she knew... deep down in her heart she knew, that where he might be fucking his brains out with every two-bit whore he met, she would be on his mind. But she also knew that he would always be on her mind, as the guy she was so glad had gotten away.
That was something she believed in strongly... oh yeah, she believed.

Title: Believe

No matter how hard I try
You keep pushing me aside
And I can't break through
There's no talking to you

It's so sad that you're leaving
It takes time to believe it
But after all is said and done
You're gonna be the lonely one

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me sayv I really don't think you're strong enough

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

What am I supposed to do
Sit around and wait for you
Well I can't do that
And there's no turning back

I need time to move on
I need a love to feel strong
'Cause I've got time to think it through
And maybe I'm too good for you

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

Well I know that I'll get through this
'Cause I know that I am strong
I don't need you anymore
I don't need you anymore
I don't need you anymore
No I don't need you anymore

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough

Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me sayv I really don't think you're strong enough
