Notes: Though it seems Shane has retired from the ring, my Shane muse is coming in loud and clear.

"Shane," Kat said, coming into their office, "I've got fantastic….."
Shane didn't hear his wife come into their office, but he felt her entrance when she picked up the object closest to their office door and threw it against the wall next to his head. Shane looked down at his wife's spare high heel shoe as it bounced off the couch and jumped to his feet in time to see their office door slam shut, making some of the paintings on the wall shake and fall.

"Fucking cheating bastard. I ought to chop off his dick and feed it to him!" Kat muttered as she got on the elevator.
Angrily, she pushed some buttons on her cell phone and made a few quick phone calls. By the time she got to the parking floor, she had a plan and she was in action.

Stephanie found Shane in his office, pacing and pulling at his hair.
"Shane? What's wrong? We need you for the meeting on the VR game."
"She walked out on me."
"Who did? Kat?"
"Yeah. She found me in here with Stacey, threw her high heel at me. She won't talk to me and she took off."
"The kids?"
"They're in school and Alan hasn't heard from Kat."
"Stacey Shane? For fucks' sakes, she's married to Andrew!"
"Her contract negotiations aren't going very well and…"
"Did you offer or did she?"
"She did," Shane replied sullenly, digging grooves with his fingers through his hair, "I guess I could have pushed her off or something…"
"You fucked up majorly… and knowing your wife, I'd watch my balls."
"You think she'll get violent?"
"There's thinking… and then there's knowing. Kat will get violent. Hell, I'd send Stacey away for her safety."
"That bad?"
"Shane, your wife stopped talking to me for a solid year when I told her I was the one Paul had cheated on Joanie with. Girl holds grudges."
"But…"
"But nothing. In her mind, you cheated in your heart and that's as good as getting a divorce."
"I love her," Shane said weakly.
"So why are you playing around on her?"
Shane shrugged and sunk down in his chair. Stephanie looked down at him and frowned.
"Is this your midlife crisis?" she asked, "And you decided to cheat on your wife?"
"No."
"Then why?"
"I don't know. Stacey was there, she started kissing me and I couldn't think of a reason to push her away."
"You suck."
"Steph…"
"She gave you two children Shane."
"I gave her money, fame…"
"She loves you!"
Shane had the decency to look ashamed as Steph said that.
"And I love her too."
"So why kiss Stacey?"
Shane could do nothing more than shrug.

Kat had never felt such consuming anger and her anger was directed at her husband and Stacey Martin. She had never felt so close to actually committing murder. She picked up her cell phone and nestled it between her ear and shoulder as she drove.
"Joanie?" she spoke into the phone.
"Yeah."
"It's Kat. Remember me?"
"Well duh! What's up?"
"Would you be willing to go to jail for me?"
"Who do you want me to kill?"
"Either Shane or Stacey Martin."
"He cheated on you with the Elf?"
"How could you guess?"
"Well," Joanie laughed, "you ask if I want to go to jail for you and then you tell me you want Shane and the Elf dead… I put two and two together. What happened?"
"Walked into our office and found them making out."
"What did you do?"
"Threw one of my heels at his head."
"Did it hit?"
"I don't know. I rushed out."
"How do you feel?"
"I don't know." Kat pulled her SUV on the side of the road and put her head down on the wheel, tears pouring out of her eyes. "I want to beat her to a pulp and him… I don't know what I want to do to him."
"It's clear that you still love him."
"Even after he cheated on me?"
"We don't know for sure he cheated. They were just kissing…"
"Jo… do you know something I don't know?"
"No… I just don't want you to burn your bridges as fast as I did mine."
"With Paul?"
"Yeah."
"I know I can't burn my bridges and pretend the last ten years didn't happen. I'm just… Jo… there's more to it than it seems."
"Like?"
"I'm pregnant Jo."
"WHAT?"
"I was going to tell him… I went to see Sally this morning. I'm on week 11."
"Oh Kat…"
"Shane and I have been trying for a while, non-officially, of course and I was a little nauseous in the mornings but I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything, you know? Didn't want to jinx anything."
"And he didn't know? I mean, didn't the man notice you didn't have your period anymore?"
"He would have noticed if we'd been having regular sex in the last two months… but we haven't been having regular sex, or any sex, for that matter…"
"Ah…"
"Yeah. I want that baby Jo but I want my husband to be along for the ride."
"No one says that Shane won't be around. It just means you'll both have to work at it a little bit more."

Kat stood in the doorway of Alex's room, watching the twins as they slept, both of them in Alex's tiny bed. They'd only been sleeping in different rooms for three months now and they missed each other so it wasn't rare for one of them to join the other during the night. As usual, Alex had tugged most of the blankets off her brother and Josh, a notorious sleeping kicker was sprawled on his back, the top of his pajamas, shorts and a HHH tee-shirt, had ridden up under his armpits. Smiling, Kat went over to the closet, grabbed a blanket and tucked it around her son, tugging down his tee shirt. Josh blinked and opened his eyes.
"Mommy."
"Hey baby. Go back to sleep. I'll be here in the morning."
"Ok…"
Kat leaned over and kissed his smooth forehead as he fell asleep, doing the same for his twin. She left the room and went to her and Shane's bedroom. She went to his closet and pulled out a huge polar fleece sweater she'd bought him and put it on, wrapping her body in his smell. After a few minutes, she reached over and grabbed the phone, dialing his cell phone number.
"Kat?"
"Shane."
"I…"
"Why Shane?"
"I'm an idiot."
"Besides the obvious. I'm serious here Shane. You cheated on me. You know my family history with this shit. Unlike your mother, I won't have you fucking your way through North America."
"I won't. Stacey was… a temporary lapse."
"But I didn't have temporary lapses Shane."
"I… I fucked up…"
"Fucked up? Shane, you were tonguing her tonsils! Are you bored with me Shane?" Kat asked.
"No!"
"Do you still love me?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure? You're not just saying yes because you're used to saying it?"
"No. I do love you. I can't think of my life without you. I just… Stacey was crying because the negotiations are going to hell for her renewal and I just touched her shoulders and she was kissing me."
"Well, that's because she's a whore Shane. And you were kissing her back! Your arms were around her and you were holding her! And you can't tell me you thought it was me in your arms because we've got totally different bodies."
Shane sighed and rubbed his eyes. He ran his hand through his messy hair and laid himself out on the bed he usually shared with his wife.
"I think I was kind of trying to recapture my younger days when every woman was at my availability."
"Ever think your increased need for sex might be because you're not getting any at home?"
"We have sex…"
"Eleven weeks ago," Kat sobbed.
"What?"
"That was the last time we made love Shane. You don't even want me anymore. You're not attracted to me anymore."
"I am."
"You don't act like it. You wear PJs to bed."
"That's because of Josh barging in to our bedroom all the time."
"When we're on the road? When the kids are in Boucherville and we're in Bumfuck USA? Our marriage is going to hell in a hand basket and I don't want that to happen."
"What do you want from me?"
"You Shane… I just want you."
"Come back to Stamford, I can't do this, work on our marriage when you're so far away."
"Maybe in the morning."
"Maybe?"
"Shane, if you'd walked in on me making out with… Paul, how eager would you be to see me?"
On Shane's silence, Kat hung up the phone and curled up in the bed, wrapping her arms tightly around her body.

When Linda walked into her makeshift office at the O'Connell Center at the University of Florida, she didn't expect to see her daughter-in-law. But there Kat was, pacing the floor, evidently waiting for her. Her son's wife had been MIA for the past two days and Shane had been extremely close-mouthed about her whereabouts.
"Katia."
"Hi Linda."
"Are you all right?"
"No. I… I found Shane in his office with Stacey Martin two days ago."
Linda sighed and moved to her desk, shaking her head.
"I was hoping he'd avoid temptation. And he was doing very well."
"I know… and I did some thinking while I was at home and I just want to know, how do you do it?"
"How do I do what?"
"How do you love your husband even when he cheats?"
"So you know?"
Kat smiled weakly and sat down in front of Linda. "We all do."
"I wish I could tell you it's easy, that it won't hurt. But it will."
"Do I even have one chance of convincing him I'm worth all of those women?"
"I don't doubt that you are. It's just…"
"That he won't get it."
Linda's heart tore in two when she saw the tears in Kat's eyes. In the moment, she despised her son for causing the proud young woman so much pain. Just then, Vince barged into the office, Stephanie and Shane in tow.
"Katia! Where have you been?" he asked. "I really didn't like the disappearing act you pulled the last two days."
"I'm sorry Vince. I just had to take care of something. Shane, Stephanie, hi."
"Kat, we need to talk," Shane said quickly.
"It's not necessary. I spoke to your mother and I understand what I have to do now."
"Kat's right, no time to talk," Vince said, "we need to go over the plans for tonight."
All five McMahons bent their heads over Linda's desk, where Vince had spread out the final plans for the night's house show. Every once in a while, Kat found Shane staring at her from across the desk, his eyes filled with sorrow. Her eyes didn't quite convey the same emotion however as they were full of rage.
