SUMMARY: Sequel to Girlfriend . The morning after that first date.
After sharing croissants and coffee in my room with Jason, I feel somewhat ready to face the world. I wonder how different things would be... well, who am I kidding? Things are going to be very different. This morning, I have a girlfriend and I work with her. And this morning, I'm going to see her for the very first time since our first date.
When Jason and I finally make it to the airport, a grouchy Adam in tow, I spot her right away, her head on Matt's shoulder as the older Hardy and his brother wait for our flight. Jeff immediately waves us over. We always travel in a pack, the six of us. We get along very well and Vince knows that as long as he can keep an eye on one of us, the rest will follow.
Jason is about to shove me in the empty chair next to amy when Adam beats me to it.
"Got you Kat," he says with a grin, plopping down next to Amy.
"Copeland, you're such an idiot," Jason sighs, running a hand over his face.
"What? Kat's just got to be faster."
Then, Adam jokingly reaches out and tickles a very sleepy Amy. She opens an eye very lazily and peers at him warily.
"You like your balls Copeland?" she asks.
"Sure? Why? You want to get to know them Dumas?"
"I hate them right now. Now be a gentleman and let Kat sit down."
"Nope, she just has to be faster."
I roll my eyes skyward.
"I'm not in the mood for your childish pranks Adam. I'm going to get something to drink can I get anyone anything?"
"I'll take some water," Matt says.
"Sure. Jeff? Jason? Amy?"
"I'll take some water too," Jason says.
"I'm good thanks."
"I'll go with you," Amy says, getting up.
"What about me?" Adam whines.
The scalding look I give him is all the answer he needs. Amy gets up and joins me. As soon as we're out of sight, she twines her fingers with mine.
"How are you?" I ask her, looking at her beautiful face.
"I'm all right. You?"
"Better now. How did you sleep?"
"I didn't. I thought about you and our date all night long."
My step falters. Oh Goddess, she had regrets. She was just experimenting and she really doesn't like me.
"I wished we'd had all night," she whispers.
I turn to her, my eyes wide as saucers.
"You did-- you do?"
"Yeah. Kat, we were good friends before last night but last night, I lay in bed thinking about everything I want to know about you."
"You did?"
"Yeah. It was strange. And I looked forward to seeing you this morning."
"Me too. And I spent all night dreaming about you. It was nice."
At the little airport store, we buy bottles of water for everyone, except Adam of course, and we pick up a few magazines. And on our way back, our fingers stay entwined. When Jason sees us, the smile on his lips is so bright that I want to run over and kiss him full on the mouth. That man is too sweet for his own good.
Jeff is the second one to notice. His eyes go kind of wide and he looks at us for confirmation. I look at Amy and she nods at me and then we both nod to him. His green eyes sparkle with merriment and he shakes his head from side to side.
"Jeff, are you listening to me?" his brother asks a bit impatiently.
"Sorry Matt. I wasn't paying attention."
"I know. What the hell is so interesting?"
"These two," Jeff says, nodding over at me and amy, who are still holding hands.
Matt turns to us and he grins at me.
"You finally asked her out?" he asks me with a really wide grin.
"You knew?"
"I have eyes. I was wondering when you were finally going to ask her out."
I shake my head. Matt Hardy knew. Well color me shocked. Already, he's back to harassing his baby brother. Adam however looks at both of us strangely.
"The two of you, huh?"
"Yep," Amy says, "which is why I wanted Kat to sit next to me."
"Oh... Well, I was faster than she was."
With that explanation, Adam stretches his long frame across his seat and the one amy vacated. We're about to remove him by force when Jason puts his arms around both our shoulders.
"Now," he asks, "when do I get to see the two of you make out?"
"What?" we both ask him.
"Well, I helped get Kat ready for her date... It's not asking for much is it? Just a little reward..."
Amy and I evidently agree on this since we both elbow him in the gut at the same time. While he makes a big show of falling to the ground and clutching his stomach, Amy steps over his body and gently kisses my lips. All four boys stop whatever they're doing to watch. Joanie and Paul pass us by while we're still kissing and Paul steps over my fashion consultant and snorts.
"Stop drooling Jason. It seems clear that they're not planning on including you in that kiss any time soon."
Amy and I start to laugh and we pull away from each other.
"I like you," she tells me. "I really, really do."
"Me too," I whisper, "I really, really do too."
