Summary: Sequel to Girlfriend, The Morning After, The Insecure One, Outted, Finally and Nothing Beats That. How the WWF handles the Lita/Kat situation.
All right, so it's been a week since the black paint incident and the boys and I absent from that show, as were Amy and her Hardyz. Vince has decided to dismiss the black paint incident. To him, and us, the other medias are talking about it so much, anything we'd do would be repetitive. The plan to incorporate my relationship with Amy into the show is still on though.
So Vince arranges for me and Amy to have a session with the writers to see how they're going to incorporate our relationship in the story line.
"All right," says Vince, "we already established Kat's crush on Lita with that chair shot. What we have to do now is pursue the relationship somehow."
"Well, how about we have Kat ask me out on a date, kind of like she did for real?"
"How did that happen?" Shane asks with a big grin.
"Well, I went up to her, asked her if she had plans for the evening. When she said no, I offered her dinner."
"Yeah, but at first I thought we were having just a girls' night out. Nothing more nothing less. Then she told me it was a date."
"That's not bad, we could play on that," said a writer. "I mean, it's not specific to a sexual orientation, a lot of people can respond to asking out a friend for a date and having that friend not get it right away."
"And then," another, smarmier, writer, adds, "we have Kat try to land a kiss on Lita."
"So I can turn into the female version of Dean Malenko? Mmmmm, NO!"
"It's not a thoroughly bad idea," says Vince.
"It's dumb," Stephanie says.
"Stephanie..."
"It is Dad. I think we should make it more natural. I mean, this isn't like when a guy wants a woman. It's as much an affair of the mind as it is of the heart and as such, it should be treated with the appropriate level of reverence and respect." Everyone turns to Stephanie in surprise. "What?" she shrugs, "I read books and magazines. I'm not completely without good sense."
"Steph might be on to something," Shane agrees. "I mean, if we handle this right, can you imagine how our numbers will jump in the gay community?"
"That's something we wanted to talk about," Amy says. "We'd appreciate it if this story wasn't made into a gay story per se. I mean, we're not gay. We're bisexual. We still like boys but right now, we're together."
"Well, it's inevitable," Vince reasons, "no matter how we do it, it's going to be a gay story. We can't work around that."
"Yes, we can. Just handle it as if one of us was a guy."
"It's kind of impossible."
"Not if it's handled right. Making this story line into nothing more than a gay story would be insulting. To me as well as Amy."
"What do you suggest we do then?"
"I think the original idea was a good one. Have me ask the Lita character out on a date without her knowing I think it's a date."
"We can do that," Shane says.
"We're going to get you guys a rough draft for you to look over," Stephanie says. "It should be done by tomorrow, just in time for dad's meeting with the roster."
Yeah, a meeting with the roster. Vince wants to set down the line of the new story lines. Well not all the story lines, just mine and Amy's. I mean, it's a delicate situation. So here we are, in the dining room of a hotel we're staying out, a few hours before a house show. Usually, we'd be at the arena, preparing but this is different.
"All right, all right," Vince says, getting up on a small dais, "quiet down everybody, come on..." He clapped a few times and finally got the desired silence. "All right guys, I know you boys and few girls are the worse gossips in the world and that you've been making all sorts of guesses as to what we're going to do about the Amy and Kat situation. Well, it's very simple. We're not going to make any kinds of public statements about this. We're going to make our statement the only way we know how. WWF style."
As Vince explains how my relationship with Amy/Lita is going to play out in a feud that'll unite the Hardyz with Edge and Christian against the Radicalz, I look at people's faces. They all seem so accepting. It still awes me that i'm part of this strange extended family. The WWF is going to handle the whole me and Amy thing the same way they handled the Chyna/Eddie Guerrero thing, with a few shots of us backstage. But we won't come out holding hands and stuff. We're going to make our professional commitment clear and we're not going to let our personal relationship come into the ring.
"... Finally," Vince says, "we're going to ask all of you to refrain from commenting on this particular story line without our approval. We have to watch our step here."
As some of the other performers ask questions about the situation, my fingers twine with Amy's.
"How are you doing with this?" she asks me.
"I'll be cool. I mean, as long as I don't have to do fake kisses with you in the middle of the ring, it's all good."
"What's wrong with kissing me?"
"Nothing. It's just that when I kiss you it's real. I don't want to pretend it'd not in front of millions of viewers."
"Oh."
"Do you mind?"
"No, it's okay. I'm not sure I want to pretend kissing you in the middle of the ring either."
"You know, I'd be perfectly okay with letting the two of you really kiss me in the middle of the ring," Jason says, leaning forward from his seat behind us.
"In your dreams," I tell him, pushing his head back, "in your dreams."
So here we are. The night I ask Lita out for her date.
"Come on," Christian says, pulling on my arm, "we have to leave before the Dudleyz find us."
"It's you they're after, not me," I tell them. "Anyhow, I have stuff to take care of."
"What stuff?" Edge asks.
Just then, the Dudleyz come running down the hall and off the blondes go, completely forgetting about me. The camera follows me as I round a corner and knock on a door. Matt Hardy appears.
"Hey," he says. "What do you want? Or are you helping your little Canadian buddies set a trap for us?"
"I am not. I'd like to speak to Lita."
"Why?"
"Because."
"Well, it ain't happening."
"Ugh. Never mind."
I turn around and start walking away. Lita pushes the door open and follows me out.
"Uh, Kat, you wanted to see me?"
"Oh, did the guard dog let you out?"
"Matt's just a bit protective."
"A bit?"
"Okay, a lot."
We chuckle and look over at Matt and Jeff who are glaring at us from the doorway.
"So what's up?"
"Well, I was just wondering if you were doing anything special tonight. We could go eat or something."
"That'd be cool."
"I just have to pick up the rest of my equipment from the locker room and then I'll come by and get you?"
"Sounds cool. See you then?"
"Yeah."
"What did she want?" Matt asks as I walk away.
"Nothing that's any of your business," Lita says, going back to the locker room.
And so it begins.
