about the Kat and Amy relationship.
NOTE: I don't know how ready I am to make this a series so for now, it'll remain in this format, as vignettes.
It went well. People reacted to me and Amy really well. I still feel a few stares every once in a while, but nothing overwhelming. We both knew that people don't mean us any harm, they're curious. That's perfectly normal.
And it's the guys that make me laugh the most, specially the old school guys, like J.R. and Lawler. Jerry's funny. He looks at us and I can almost hear him stopping himself from making all the comments he wish he could make on TV. I don't think he means anything by it but this shit comes naturally to him.
As for his fellow announcer, I can tell me and Amy is just a mystery to him. He's seen us both date some of the WWF's hunkiest guys and now we're together. His mind doesn't seem to work itself around that yet.
As for the upper management, they were cool about it, but let's face it, this is a business and the first thing they look at is their numbers. And Amy and I knew that when we headed into that meeting they'd set up for the two of us.
"Ladies," Shane said, "have a seat."
Amy and I didn't hold hands. We knew what they were expecting and we were going to be professional about this.
"Thank you."
"Now, I'm not going to play on words here," Vince said, "the two of you are dating. I don't care. I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Steve and Debra, and Joanie and Paul, you fuck up the atmosphere in my locker room and you'll pay for it, okay?"
"Yeah," Amy said, "we get that."
"Good. Now I need to know if the two of you are serious about this. Should I start putting you two up in the same rooms? What?"
"For now," I said, with a nod to Amy, "everything can stay the same. We're dating each other exclusively, but we're not ready to share a room yet."
"But at some point down the line?" Shane asked.
"Maybe. We'll let you know when that happens."
"Okay. Dad?"
"OK, we're going to ask you to be careful when you're out in public, same thing we ask Joanie and Paul. We want to maintain the story lines."
"We can do that," Amy says with a nod from me.
"Talk to Joanie, she'll give you some of the tricks Paul and her have refined over the years, specially when it comes to staying cool in the ring. The two of you are opponents in the ring, I want you to keep selling that. Nothing about letting it show when the other one gets their ass kicked in the ring."
"Okay," we say together.
"All right ladies," Vince says, smiling at both of us as he gets up to shake our hands, "just keep it together and professional, okay?"
"Yes sir."
"And," he says, as he puts on his glasses, "off the record, you two make a cute couple."
Amy and I blush and Shane chuckles, shaking his head. He walks out with us.
"Now, my dad's too delicate to ask this question, but I will. This isn't just some experimenting the two of you should have done in college?"
I look at Amy, she looks and me and we look back to Shane, "Nope."
"Good. Now, get out of here. You both have signings to get to today."
That night at RAW, after the boys screwed the Hardyz out of yet another shot at the belt, Adam drops down next to me on a couch and puts his arm around my shoulder.
"You know, you kick ass out there."
"I do?" I raise an eyebrow at that.
I'm nothing more than eye candy out there. I mean come on, the official photographer for the 5-second poses? Who are we kidding? I strut out there with a couple of cameras around my neck, take pictures of their five-second poses and of their matches. Cool thing is, I can actually take those pictures. I studied photography long enough to do so.
"Sure you do," he tells me.
"All right," Jason says, running out of the room, "I got to do my bit with Angle. Be right back."
"He doesn't have to hurry back," Adam whispers in my ear.
"And what do you think you're doing?"
"Come on-- admit it, you and Amy, that's just because things cooled off between you and me."
"God, how cocky can men get," I sigh, getting up.
"It's okay. I mean, I'll give you that much, you got taste, great taste, Amy's a hottie. But I'm willing to pick things up again if you are."
"Adam, darling," I say, turning around to face him, "it's not about you and me, it never was. It's about me and Amy."
"But Kat..."
"What?" I whisper, leaning in front of the mirror, taking off the heavy stage make up.
"Was it me?" he whispers, his eyes meeting mine in the mirror, "did I do something that made you want women instead of men?"
I turn around and look at him. My anger melts. I hadn't realized, hadn't thought. But it's true, he was the last man I was with before Amy. I shake my head at him.
"No, you didn't. I just really like Amy in that special way that makes me want to be with her. It had nothing to do with you. Really."
"But I was the last..."
"Adam, it's not you. It's my feelings for Amy. I feel something for her that I never felt for you."
"But could I have done something to make you feel that way?"
"No, not really. Unless you can turn yourself into a high-flying redhead with great breasts."
My attempt at humor doesn't make him smile.
"Are you jealous?" I ask him.
"YES! Here I had this great woman with me and now that she's hooked up with another chick, now I want her. I feel a bit like an idiot."
"You don't want me Adam. You want to reaffirm your manhood but turning me straight. You want to plant your flag on me-- reclaim me in the name of all the men out there."
"You say that like it's a bad thing."
I laugh and finish taking off my make-up. He's just sitting there, looking at me.
"You know," he finally says, "maybe I should tell her about that little spot on your neck that makes you absolutely bonkers."
"Don't you dare," I say, turning to him, my eyes blazing.
"Come on, imagine the time it'd save."
"Copeland, if you tell her..."
"Look who I found on the way," Jason announces, coming back into the room, Amy in tow. Her make-up's already off and she changed out of her in-ring clothing.
"How come it takes you so little time to get out of the ring clothes and shower and it takes me forever just to get changed and get my make-up off?"
"I'm just that damn good," she teases me, joining Adam on the couch.
"I'm going to get changed," I sigh, grabbing my back.
"You do that," Adam tells me with a grin, "Amy and I have to talk."
"Copeland," I warn him, "don't."
"Come on, I'm helping."
"What did you have in mind?" Jason asks Adam.
"I was going to tell Amy about Kat's special spots.
"Jason, stop him. Please."
"I'm afraid I can't do that," he tells me.
"Why not?"
"Well, the faster the two of you get comfortable in the boudoir, the sooner your inhibitions will melt and maybe you'll finally let me watch you go at it."
This time, Amy and I say it at the same time: "PIG!"
